Had to go grab a couple more screens. The r8 +5 FDS and the r8 10/-5 old school Serpent are the perfect energy combo, and the shields are throw-ins.

Thought it made sense to put these two beauties in the same picture. I hope you guys enjoy seeing them together as much as I have over the years.

I hope this set makes a strong case for the sexiest q9 set

You have the best shield in the GW world IMO.

Sexy Q9 set hands down, 1oo%.

do you as THE magmas enthusiast really prefer this q9 -5/20 +30 over the legendary q8 -2st +30?

while personally i'd say the q8 is better (although or because it's further away from today) i do see how it could really be either one, i'm just wondering

Yes. This is just my opinion tho.

I personally have never seen a +30/-5/20 Magmas of any req. So many are so close, but to my knowledge there are no Q8 version of this shield either.

+30/-5/20 FTW

+30 -5/20 was always the purists' choice. It dates from the start, when people were feeling their way through the game, and everyone ran w/mo because nobody knew better. We're warriors right? That means we wear armour and take physical damage right? Therefore any chance of reducing that physical damage is good, right? It's just better. No one uses stance right?

So +30 -5/20 became the core requirement for a perfect shield, and therefore more sought after.

IIRC, the -5 mod was a relatively recent addition. -3(10%) was the original max on unconditional reduced damage. The damage reduction was then changed to physical only and upped to -5(20%). I don't remember if this was all done as a single change or as a series of changes. Others would know better than I would.

Long story short, the -5 mod isn't original and isn't very good at all IMO. I agree with Max that warriors are warriors. We can't really be using a shield mod that does exactly nothing 80% of the time. You're a warrior. Use your stances...and a shield suited to them. It's no mystery what shield I consider to be the best in the game.

PS: @EK You've seen a 30/-5 magmas before. You just had trouble lifting it

But, in the end, none of this takes away from how spectacular your shield and set are, Avengers. I've publicly admired your taste for the finer things in GW and this is all just one more example of why.

What appeals to me about -5/20 +30hp shields is the rarity, not the functionality. A shield with -2 +xxhp only needs +30hp to be perfect, but a -5 mod can come with 19% and 20%. If you gave me the choice between Avengers Magmas and a -2 +30hp magmas r9 str. It wouldn't be a decision I'd need to think long about.
