Very good idea, I'd join this if I wasn't in a guild alredy.
I do have one question though, after the first cave with the avicara + worm, several mobs of ice golems pile up there, plus all the grawls and avicara too, how do you deal with this? smite hex/remove hex just doesnt do the job against so many deep freezes, thats the hardest part I have when I do the run.

You can be in a different guild and still join the academy. In fact, you have to join it if you want the secrets.

That is why there are no runners spamming beacons now. And those that do are just hoping they will get lucky when in reality they never will. I have spent an hour or so joining parties with them and they all failed. I however a member of the academy can do the run with ease and plan on taking the test within the next week or two

It costs 15 ecto for manuals and opportunity to join the guild, graduate, get certified, and all of that. You cannot buy just the manual (well, you can, but it is still 15 ecto).
I charge for a few reasons: I like to make sure that people are committed, that they care, that they understand the basics of the game, and that they have all made an investment in learning the secrets. If I didn't charge too many people would join. While I technically don't need the money for anything, I like to have a reserve of ecto for rare purchases to supplement my private collections of items, and I want to have a few thousand ecto in reserve for the expansion when it goes on sale. I'm sure there will be plenty of new things in there to buy . . .

Dude, she already has all the fissure armor.
Also, she's protecting her build. If LBS blasted her build all over the forum Arena.net would nerf the living daylight out of it. Just look and what Anet did with the invincimonks

Ahh, the voice of ignorance, how I have missed you. Just a couple points to help clarify:
- Steel was rich prior to starting the academy
- Steel has 4 sets of FOW armor. This issue has been covered before.
- Post academy, Steel is no longer rich, rather Steel is wealthy. (Just like Shaq is rich, but the man who writes his checks is wealthy)
- It is not easy to run Droks. It's a hobby of mine to pay for a runner from Beacons to Droks. Since the last update not one has completed the run.
- I hate when people don't type a complete word just to save two keystrokes (example: "ur" instead of "your")

dam, i will save up... but if i save up for a few months only to regain it with what must b some dam gd investments, it seems like time is gone, tho i do understadn it would be impossible to give the manuals etc then person pays l8er
i'm just saying its a bit hard and does piss me off a bit :P
i am saving up now... farming for green weps , selling them, buying keys - selling their loot....
i can imagine how fast it must b with the running secrets... but to get them, for now i must dream :P
except for running, is it possible for another way to get EASY cash, if u can't post that for reason of fear of getting nerfed np :P

Just curious as I don't run for profit and only run Guildies.
I recently ran a fellow members character from ascalon to ascension in 4 hours.
Whats the average time for something like that?
Originally I was just going to help him complete the missions for speeds sake, but after a few PUGS where people wouldnt skip the cinemas I decided to run it. I ran from Nolani to Borlis, rushed him through that mission. Ran Gates to the end and decimated the swamp. Then ran from LA to beetle so he could get skills from settlement and vendor. From there we hit TOA, Fisherman's and Sanctum. Did the usual desert thing(taking the time to gather the materials to get the collectors armor), and then helped with the Dragon's Lair once he ganked his mirror.

1. As long as you need. I don't have much time online each day, I work nights, and therefore am not on much when most others are. So it will take me a bit longer than many others.
2. As much as you can spend. The more time you spend learning and practicing the better you will become.
3. Only if you wish to join the Academy Guild. It's not required, but it does make it a lot easier to go on training runs.

The course ends when you graduate. Graduation requires that you make a successful beacon >> droknar run. The point of the academy is that you take time to enjoy the interaction with other students and practice runs with them. It's ideal to spend some good amount of time practicing runs.
In any case, the time the course takes depends on how fast you're able to run droknar's successfully. Just keep in mind that the longer you take and practice runs, the more "certified" you'll be.

There are currently no time requirements.

The runner academy guild is provided to act as a "classroom" for all students and graduates. We *prefer* that you join, to keep things simple and fun, but we do not require it. Joining the guild does not make you any less of a student, it simply just makes things a little bit more difficult because of the amount of students currently enrolled.
If you have any other questions please do ask. Take care
