You can charm them with the abillity Charm Animal, only certain ones can be charmed however. They are listed above.

I think the pets default to level 5. But they should increase rather rapidly depending on where you are currently questing.

Oink is an NPC, he's more powerful than any charmable animal in the game and invincible. Warthogs can't be as strong as him, but they are still the coolest pet.
You can't charm Oink, and the only charmable Warthogs that I know of are well past the mission where you encounter him.

You can charm warthogs in presearing. One roams near the bull. The others are on the other side of the wall where you need 2 people to rescue the ranger there. (that's where I charmed mine.)

When you leave Ascalon City turn right outside of the gate. Head up to the actor's theater (it will be on your right). Head west at that point and you will find the bull and the little pond he is standing in.

The bull only appears when you accept the quest from Althea which will then offer you a chance to become a mesmer secondary or if you are primary.

I have never not seen the bull, I have never done a mesmer primary or secondary, and I have not taken her quest either. I believe the bull is always there.

The bull is there until you accept the mesmer quest and kill it. Or leave pre-Searing, but that's obvious, so why mention it?
uhhh... yeah.

OK, there are two types of blackbears, one in presearing and one in postsearing.
The one presearing is hard to capture because it has that interrupt and it also has a maul skill. Now i noticed that the one in postsearing has no such skills, and is easy to capture. My question is, are the two bears the same statistically, and does the postsearing blackbear use maul in battle?
