Ultimate Pet Guide
Ultimate Pet Guide - V1.2
A good deal of information was gathered from various posts, especially from GammaRay on gwonline.net. All information is best estimate without official numbers from the development team.
Available Pets:
Black Bear …………………………. (slashing damage)
Black Widow Spider ………….. (piercing damage)
Fern/Dune Lizard ………………. (piercing damage)
Lynx (cat) …………………………. (slashing damage)
Melandru’s Stalker (cat) ….. (slashing damage)
Moa Bird ……………………………. (slashing damage)
Snow Wolf …………………………. (slashing damage)
Strider (bird)………………………. (piercing damage)
Warthog …………………………….. (blunt damage)
Wolf ……………………………………. (slashing damage)
You can name your pet with the following commands:
/namepet <pet name>
/petname <pet name>
Skill recharge penalty when pet dies has been reduced to 4 seconds.
-- :: LOCATIONS FOR TAMING :: --
PRE-SEARING:
Bear - Wizard's Folly* (no longer available - patched)
Melandru's Stalker (Cat) - Reagent Valley
Strider (Bird) - Ascalon fields
Warthog - Northernlands
Wolf - Ascalon Fields, Reagent Valley
POST-SEARING:
Bear - Lornar's Pass
Black Widow Spider - Underworld (after setting the reaper free at the monument near the tortured spirit village)
Dune Lizard - Amnoon Oasis
Fern Lizard – I believe this can be found outside Druids Overlook or Quarrell Falls
Lynx - Kryta Areas
Melandru's Stalker (Cat) - Old Ascalon**
Moa Bird - Ascalon fields
Warthog - Denravi Areas
Wolf - Shiverpeaks
** - There's only one on the map, to the far West, near Gate Guard
Hollis (entrance to the Breach).
-- :: BEASTMASTERY : : --
At 0 BeastMastery (BM), the pet does 35% damage, and at 12 BM it's doing 100% damage. Weapon masteries after 12 do have diminished power increases. 13 has 104%, 14 has 107%, and so on and so forth. It's really just not worth the trouble, the expense, and the drain on your HP to load up to 16 on weapon mastery attributes. BeastMastery seems to follow the pattern, so you should be good at 12 BM, unless you want to crank the most out of your pet heals and attack skills.
Attribute Level --------- Effect on Weapon / Pet Damage
0 --------- 35.60%
1 --------- 38.60%
2 --------- 42.00%
3 --------- 45.90%
4 --------- 50.00%
5 --------- 54.50%
6 --------- 59.50%
7 --------- 64.80%
8 --------- 70.70%
9 --------- 77.10%
10 -------- 84.10%
11 -------- 91.70%
12 -------- 100.00%
13 -------- 104.00%
14 -------- 107.00%
15 -------- 109.00%
16 -------- 110.00%
* TIP: If you use a major rune of beast mastery on a tamer's mask, you'll get +3 BM. Counter the HP loss with a superior vigor rune (or major if you won't miss the 10 HP). Boost your BM up to 9, so that you now have 12 (9+3) BM total. You've just saved yourself 49 attribute points over having brought your BM up to 12 without any modifiers. With the right runes and equipment, you can make yourself quite diverse.
-- :: PET ATTRIBUTES :: --
Hit Points and Armor Level increase per level gain same as a player. Pet Inherit names like: Hearty, Playful, Elder seem to be cosmetic and change based on the level of the pet. Tests are underway to verify this, but these names seem to have no effect on the pet attributes.
Armor Levels:
Level 1 Pet = AL 3
Level 2 Pet = AL 6
Level 3 Pet = AL 9
Level 4 Pet = AL 12
Level 5 Pet = AL 15
Level 6 Pet = AL 18
Level 7 Pet = AL 21
Level 8 Pet = AL 24
Level 9 Pet = AL 27
Level 10 Pet = AL 30
Level 11 Pet = AL 33
Level 12 Pet = AL 36
Level 13 Pet = AL 39
Level 14 Pet = AL 42
Level 15 Pet = AL 45
Level 16 Pet = AL 48
Level 17 Pet = AL 51
Level 18 Pet = AL 54
Level 19 Pet = AL 57
Level 20 Pet = AL 80 + 20% speed boost
Base Damage Output:
Level 1 Pet = 3-5
Level 2 Pet = 4-6
Level 3 Pet = 5-8
Level 5+ Pet = 6-10
* Note that pet damage is tied to your level of Beast Mastery.
The higher your attribute level the greater the pet.
Below are the results of current testing on pet attributes. All pets are level 20, and were tested with 0 to 12 BeastMastery. Although all pets have yet to be tested, it does appear that all pets except the Black Widow are almost exactly the same.
Remember that these tests were performed by humans so there is always a margin of error. Each pet was tested 30 times to get a fair number of attacks/damage and then averaged. Although each pet test may have generated slight variances (less than a second) in the DPS we can average that each pet attacks every 2 seconds. These averages can be applied across the board and provide some basic information.
SUMMARY
Pet Hit Points have not been tested enough to state the results
All Pets of the same experience level have the same Armor Level.
All Pets have a 2 second attack rate
All Pets have a 10% chance for critical hit with a 12 BeastMastery (average 34 damage/per critical, except Black Widow Spider which does 43)
All Pets except Black Widow Spider (which seems to have a 17 ~ 29 range) appear to have a 15 ~ 28 damage range at level 20 with 12 BeastMastery
The Black Widow Spider seems to be the best pet in the game.
Black Bear
.. : Average Attack Speed ............ 2.095 sec per attack
.. : Average Damage Per Second .. 10.07
.. : Armor Level ........................... 60
.. : ---------------------------------- BeastMastery -----------------------------
.. : --------------------------------- 0 ----------- 12 -----------------------------
.. : Damage Range ..................... 6 ~ 9 ........... 15 ~ 28
.. : Critical Hit (10% chance) ....... N / A ............ 34
.. : Average Damage Per Hit ........ 7.1 .............. 21.1
* Brutal Mauling appears to have no distinguishable influence on the pet's damage. Seems to just be cosmetic.
Dune Lizard
.. : Average Attack Speed ............ 2.17 sec per attack
.. : Average Damage Per Second .. 10.29
.. : Armor Level ........................... 60
.. : ---------------------------------- BeastMastery -----------------------------
.. : --------------------------------- 0 ----------- 12 -----------------------------
.. : Damage Range ..................... 6 ~ 9 ............ 15 ~ 28
.. : Critical Hit (10% chance) ....... N / A ............. 33 ~ 34
.. : Average Damage Per Hit ........ 7.35 .............. 22.35
Elder Black Widow
.. : Average Attack Speed ............ 2.067 sec per attack
.. : Average Damage Per Second .. 12.256
.. : Armor Level ........................... 60
.. : ---------------------------------- BeastMastery -----------------------------
.. : --------------------------------- 0 ----------- 12 -----------------------------
.. : Damage Range ..................... 6 ~ 10 ............ 17 ~ 27
.. : Critical Hit ........................... 12 ~ 13 (3% chance) ... 43 (10% chance)
.. : Average Damage Per Hit ........ 7.966 .............. 25.333
* Although no 15 or 28 damage hits were made, it may just be luck of the draw -- more tests may need to be run – Note that the Prima Guide states that it has a 17-29 damage range
Melandru's Stalker
.. : Average Attack Speed ............ 2.04 sec per attack
.. : Average Damage Per Second .. 10.69
.. : Armor Level ........................... 60
.. : ---------------------------------- BeastMastery -----------------------------
.. : --------------------------------- 0 ----------- 12 -----------------------------
.. : Damage Range ..................... 6 ~ 8 ............ 15 ~ 28
.. : Critical Hit (10% chance) ....... N / A ............. 34
.. : Average Damage Per Hit ........ 7.05 .............. 21.85
Moa Bird
.. : Average Attack Speed ............ 2.032 sec per attack
.. : Average Damage Per Second .. 10.695
.. : Armor Level ...........................60
.. : ---------------------------------- BeastMastery -----------------------------
.. : --------------------------------- 0 ----------- 12 -----------------------------
.. : Damage Range ..................... 5 ~ 9 ............ 15 ~ 24
.. : Critical Hit (10% chance) ....... N / A ............. 32 ~ 35
.. : Average Damage Per Hit ........ 7.166 .............. 21.733
* Unlike the static critical hits we saw on the other pets, the Moa seems to have a bit of a "critical range." Despite the fact that it appears to have a lower maximum damage, the hits in turn seem to be overall more consistent, indicating a tighter damage range and it still cranks out the same average damage and average DPS. The attack speed seems to stick to the 2 second/attack rate like the other pets, so we can dispell the myth of the Moa's rapid attack rate. The speed attack of the Moa Bird is simply cosmetic.
EVOLUTION
Aggressive --> Dire --> Elder
Playful --> Hearty --> Elder
Aggressive = +1 Damage / -30 Health
Dire = +2 Damage / -60 Health
Playful = -1 Damage / +30 Health
Hearty = -2 Damage / +60 Health
Elder = +3 Damage
Future tests results, and the final results will be updated here. But based on the above tests it is unlikely that the other pets will vary from the above statistics.

of its potential damage. If a weapon (or pet in this case) has a damage range of 10-15 but you have 0 attribute you will do 35% of that potential damage.
Hopefully I explained that right

How did they get information on how much the pet is hitting for? Did they test in PvP? I'd love the option of seeing what my pet is actually hitting for. Especially when he's not confined to his skillbook cage (which is often.)

Indeed, still you it should be put in that one forum with all the other info and give credit to them if he really did just copy and paste.

Yes they go into PvP and perform the tests with the pet owner changing the BeastMastery level from 0-12, all lvl 20 pets.

No I didn't just copy/paste a single other forum, as I stated this is gathered from various posts (including the testing being done by GammaRay on gwonline.net), and does indeed contain a lot of copy/paste from numerous sources. They do not have this guide (yet). I have no intention of taking credit from what GammaRay (and others) have done, but I think it's nice to try and compile all the data into one source.

So, at 12 BM your pet is essentially a +10ish (on average) bonus to your weapon per second.

Great post
Ignore the people nitpicking about giving credit where it's due. You stated it was pulled together from alot of sources and never claimed that it was all research you did, prior to them bitching about it.
Saving this to my Guild Wars folder.

You make it sound so simplistic. Not only is it a permanent DoT (unless it dies of course), with a 12 BM skill you can make your pet perform some pretty advantageous attacks like bleeding and knockdowns, not to mention higher damage from the skill.
