Guild Wars Running Guide (Youtube Video Guides)
Guild Wars Running by KAOS Theory
Hey, I am currently working on a guild wars running guide consisting of full run's of outpost-to-outpost runs, while giving commentary, such as tips and tricks.
I you want to watch these videos please check this youtube playlist.
Guild Wars Running Guide
Runs that are currently done.
- Overview of Guide
- General Running/Basics
- Beacon's Perch to Droknar's Forge (Droks Run)
- Droknar's Forge to Marhan's Grotto. (Grotto Run)
- Camp Rankor to Granite Citadel
- Ascalon City to Lion's Arch
- Lion's Arch to Sanctum Cay
- Complete Desolation Run
- Eye of the North Tour
- Desert Tour
Run's that still need to be covered.
(Sorry, school is coming up soon, because of that I won't be able to finish the entire guide, I will make a good basics video which should cover how to run correctly, with that knowledge you should be able to run anything.)
*This is a possibility, it may or may not be incorporated into the guide.

Derv version of the runs too? I personally dont need the guides as I've done all the ones you currently have and the runs you plan on covering with Sin and most of them as derv. I would like to see the droks->grotto run as derv before I decide to infuse his armor or not. so lazy :S

Your title can be slightly misleading - some of us players know running as being taxied more than mission running and seeing the title i even thought "ah nice a guide for taxi running" and i was a bit disapointed to see sc`s listed.
After fighting my way from beacons to grenths to citadel - i found the fighting more enjoyable and it didnt actually take too long.
Personally when you do the other vids - do the taxi runs first but only because there already a lot of sc run vids and not many taxi runs .

probably cause it isn't amazingly hard to watch wiki for a map and then cast shadow form and shroud of distress.

I like the guide, and good job with it.
Didn't really think anyone still cared enough for running to lay down such much time this must've taken
Tip: lower your GW sound whilst running and explaining, otherwise it gets hard to hear what you say at all times =)

Yes I learnt that in the drok's video, I could barely hear myself, I've lowered it since then, do you think I should lower it more?

I plan on making this guide primarily on taxi runs, the speed clear's are a low priority atm.

I would love to make dervish counterparts for these runs. But sadly I don't have a dervish that is ready for running.
Many of the same tips I give in these videos can be applied to any runner, regardless of profession. However, there are videos of people speedrunning areas with dervish if you want some guidance.

It is nice to see a new generation of serious runners arising.
I met up with K A O S to talk to him about how most of the veterans have quit and that there are more and more very good runners quitting every month.
I have taken kaos under my wing so to speak to teach him most of the things I know before I become even more inactive due to the beginning of the college year in a month of so.
Today I taught him the Desolation basics and some intermediate stuff...will be working with him more on it this weekend.
Nobody teach him bad habits/tactics....please...

Why not add desolation run? There's the normal method that I'm aware of and then an advanced method iirc. Top, you never finished the PvX article for it ^^

There are two methods to doing Deso...the noob Any/Rt way with Lively Was Naomei...or the way I discovered last year with the sulfur glitch.
The PvX article is the Any/A Desolation Runner i believe...and that article has turned into crap. That build promotes crap running...and I don't like it. If people want to learn the true way to run desolation, they can contact me when i am available...otherwise rely on a guide that isn't really up to par.

Indeed.
Just did a video about the updated desolation path to Kodash Bazaar, uploading it right now.
I will explain how the glitch works in the description, and you got every movement I do on screen. So for the one who dedicates himself to it, can easily learn it
The trick wont just come to you, you will have to work to get everything right.
I'm also up for explaining how its done if you ever catch me online

Nice, I watched the video, I was wondering if I could put it in the original post as a temporary desolation run video until I master it myself, I would definitely give you credit for the video.

Actually this new one is the best video up there sofar with the current meta build etc.
Could probably make some video soon about the other desolation runs if you want me to.
I got no problem if you add my videos in or not

Great videos!
Could you add some details on how to circumvent lag in the desolation? I can make sulfurous wastes in under 3 minutes on a sin (Which I'm very proud of ) but it's a 60% chance I'll get wasted by lag.
Or did miss dervissh and god of fissures just get lucky to finish their routes perfectly?
My ping bounces up and down by 400ms all the time and it causes havoc on the sands.

This is God Of Fissures btw...
The only way to "defeat" lag in the desolation is to leave a fraction of a second before Sulfurous Haze "appears" to end on your screen. This "fraction of a second" is dependent on your latency.
If you have an unstable latency like you are experiencing, then it is EXTREMELY hard to find a pattern and adapt muscle memory to how much earlier to leave your safe spot.
I have a stable high speed cable internet connection and a Killer 2100 network card, so I have an upper hand.
Go to www.speedguide.net and perform some tweaks on your computer to make your latency more stable...this could help.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

I live in Europe, have cable (Or whatever it is exactly, not the same names for services here, it's 3.something Mb/s) and share the connection with family members. This appears to be the main cause of the unstable latency, next to a decade old router (Which ISP is still giving to their customers fml)
Even on a German server (Closest I can find) the ping will go from as low as 16ms to > 300ms with no warning.
Software-wise there should be no problems: Port 6112 is forwarded, I play on linux so there is no firewall to go through, and while I have a lot of programs that connect to the internet, none are actively downloading anything at a given time. (RSS, browser, mail client, that sort of thing)
Since the sulfur effect is every 2 seconds, that ~4.1 sulfur dash in your video shouldn't even be possible unless your latency decreased by at least ~0.2 while you were running over the sand, so I presumed you had a way around it. Now I think of it, the best way might be to use a specialized lag switch to add an extra 500ms right before you leave the safe spot
Maybe something for you to try if you want to break some more records!

Well random lag jumping based on the in-game ping (circle on the bottom) is wrong and spikes randomly...your actual ping may be much different.
I still stand by my previous statement and tweak your registry with the guides at www.speedguide.net
A lag switch wouldn't work because of how the game is designed. The moment internet connection is lost, the game immediately logs you out and gives you a "connection lost" error message.
This is deliberately designed to thwart these efforts.

1. I'm on linux, there is no registry
2. I was suggesting a lag switch that would delay the connection, not cut it off.
Anyway, I can survive, I just have to add a second to my time by skipping the 3.8 second run too (Grr)
