Default Charrslayer Shield texmod fix

Hi Guys,

The other day I was browsing the wiki's Charrslayer shield page and I noticed Magamdy's discovery of how it renders outside of GW.
This got me to fiddlin' with texmod to see if I could fix the alpha channel and make it render correctly in GW. (As you do... )
After having a poke around the texture, I'm 99.9% sure that the dye channel somehow got mixed up with the alpha channel, which is why the only parts of the shield that are visible in GW are the colourable areas.

As such, it's a bit difficult to know exactly how the shield was intended to look, so I've made two versions. One with a "rough edge" which is how I think it was meant to look, and one with a "smooth edge" which closes all the gaps around the edge of the shield that are visible with the rough edge alpha. (they were driving me mad)

Download Rough Edge

Download Smooth Edge

These packs cover the default undyed texture, as well as all the primary dye colours. If you try to mix dyes, you'll get the normal bugged appearance.

Feedback, suggestions, comments, all welcome

It's a shame we need texmod active though. It would be nice if arenanet could fix it like you could.

That's amazing. I always just thought it was an ugly shield!

Eh it will only fix it on your end, I think both versions look like crap at the bottom but the rest of the shield looks nice. It would be better if they were just smoothly rounded imo.

The art difference is staggering. This is so sad that the artists made it but it doesn't get rendered properly.

Yeah, it would be great if Anet could fix it for everyone, especially considering it's something so simple as replacing the alpha channel.
I guess we'll have to make do with just fixing it for ourselves to see until such time as they fix it properly, if ever they do

Hmm, that should be possible, but there'd be a pretty big gap along the bottom 'cause the edges wouldn't meet. Still, you're not likely to see it at the bottom. The mapping on the front of the shield is rotated at a pretty weird angle and it was hard to make anything look good.
Might have a fiddle and see how it looks.
