Android: Guild Wars Skill Reference
Hello everyone.
I was disappointed with the only other Guild Wars Android application, so I decided to create my own. I included several enhancements with many more in development for future updates.
Current version: 0.8
Click here to download via Android Market
Or, search for "Guild Wars Skill Reference" from your Android device.
Screenshots:
The current version acts as a skill reference and build editor. Current features are:- Wiki-like skill info page
- Quick view of skill effects via "tags"
- Wiki page access (for info like skill trainers and elite cap locations)
- Skill list filterable by attribute, skill type, and campaign
- PvP version toggle
- Sort by skill details, like energy cost or activation time, etc.
- App2SD
- Progression tables (non-PvE only attributes)
- The only mobile build editor on the Android Market!
Planned updates include:- Skill trainer/boss locations
I am open to suggestions not already listed here. Thanks for looking!
Edit:: 12/7/2010
Quick update here, addressing a couple issues that slipped by in pre-release. I also added two new features! Details are as follow:
There was a problem with viewing skills that inflict Weakness. This is actually a problem that I fixed once before, but must have been re-introduced without me noticing. It’s fixed now, and shouldn’t be a problem from now on.
I filtered the skill list by the EotN campaign and noticed that Dervishes only had 5 skills. Which is clearly wrong. Turns out I made several other mistakes when creating my database from the official wiki, so I fixed those as well. If you notice any other inconsistencies (like a signet being marked as pet attack, etc) please don’t hesitate to email me or contact me some other way. Twitter would be a good one.
New Things:
I’ve added App 2 SD support for those phones that can do that. This saves a lot of space on the phone, since all the skill icons add up to more than 5 MB. Very useful!
You can now filter the skill list by typing out the name. On phones with keyboards, simply typing should do the trick. On touch-only phones, you can hold down the Menu button to bring up the soft keyboard instead. Very useful when you’re looking for skills that follow a naming convention (like many Assassin attacks).
As always, I am available for feature requests and bug reports. I am also interested in releasing versions for other languages. I’ve already been contacted by a company to make a Chinese version. That should be fun! If you want the app in a particular language, leave a comment here or on my twitter and let me know.
Edit:: 12/9/2010
Version 0.6.5 is now on the Android Market. The AppBrain link will take a while to sync, but it's there. This adds several new features:
- PvE only skills are now included in skill lists. The EotN title skills are under Common.
- You can now filter by skill effects. This can be accessed via the Filter menu, or by clicking on effect tags on skill info pages. A short click will add the filter and return to the list. A long click will simply add the filter, allowing you to add more than one filter from a single skill. When you return to the skill list, you will find it updated with your chosen filters.
- Pressing the Back key on a skill list that is filtered will now remove all of the filters before going back to the Profession list.
I also fixed a few minor database errors relating to skill effects. If you notice any other transcription errors, please don't hesitate to contact me via Twitter, the TakaSoft Apps blog, email ([email protected]), Private Message, or in-game (IGN: Exuzu Nomimura).
Edit:: 1/19/2011
Update for v0.6.8. This version adds support for versions of Android 1.6 and lower. If you were unable to find the application before, it should appear in the list now. Also included are skill progression tables. I will be making graphical changes to these in future updates. If you have a suggestion, please don't hesitate to let me know.
The last thing on the feature list is build creation. This one might take me a while to do, as I want to do it right. Please be patient, as it will get done. I don't make promises I can't keep.
Edit:: 2/15/2011
Update for v0.7. Several small things were added in this version, mainly things I wanted to get out of the way before focusing on build creation. Probably the most important thing is a fix for the database issues for Desire users. That should be cleared up now. Builds are next, and I'm already working on that. Should be fun.
Edit:: 12/1/2011
In this long overdue update, I added the build editor. This is the only mobile build editor available on the Android Market.- Enter a name, select the primary and secondary profession, and modify attributes by sliding out the drawer.
- The skills grid can be filtered by attribute, campaign, skill type, or skill effect.
- Click a skill to highlight it. Click your skill bar to place it there.
- Long-click any skill to open up the detailed view.
- To save, simply hit Menu > Save
As always, if you have bug reports, comments, or questions, hit me up via Twitter, the TakaSoft Apps blog, email ([email protected]), Private Message, or in-game (IGN: Exuzu Nomimura).

In due time. It's on the to-do list. Although I'm not sure how well a template code generator will work, as there's no quick way to get it from the phone to the game. And thanks! Comments and ratings in the App Market are always appreciated.

Good work, and here's some suggestions
Add accounts and tie them to a wiki or other form of web account, and any build you upload or store there can also be accessible through your Android phone. That solves the problem of how to get a template from Android to computer, you just go to your wiki account and grab it.
I'm not saying to make another PvX though, this is more for individual build storages, and possible later there can be a shared space for some featured builds.
This wiki can also be used to store skill notes on skills. To save bandwidth, it's NOT to be used as a talk page or personal notes, mostly relevant information like hero behavior, any bugs, undocumented features or anomalies.
As for the app itself, a user setting would allow each user to:
* Enter or create an account info. Let password be random generated.
* Choose to update skill changes manual/automatic/weekly (mobile)
* Choose to update skill changes manual/automatic/weekly (wifi)
* Choose to include notes mentioned above or just skill reference.
* Choose if builds you upload are allowed to be shared with others.

Very nice. I've already seen a skill I never noticed before. One suggestion is to NOT use the GW logo as it is trademarked.

I don't think ANET would really care, as his intension is clearly non-criminal. Hell...they might even hire him to help with the App for GW2.

I do include a copyright and trademark notice in an "About" dialog, and I have contacted Regina Buenaobra to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong. It will be removed immediately if ANet decides they don't want me using the logo.

Something like this would solve the problem of getting the builds to the computer, but it adds a lot of complexity to an otherwise simple app, like account security, etc. Besides that, I don't really have the resources to create a wiki like you mention. It would be interesting though.

Just some food for thought, could it be possible to implement the PvXWiki (wikia) accounts into the application?
Log on through wikia account
Uploaded builds could be posted on user:username/uploads or something of the like.

I would be willing to work with the people who run wikia to support something like that. It's something to consider but I wouldn't want to develop the app to work with PvXWiki without their approval.
Also, keep on the lookout for an update that adds skill effect filtering, coming soon. Once it's on the market my app will be the quickest and easiest way to find skills that do what you want.

I am going to begin working on including skill progressions, which is the only thing keeping me from including build creation. If anyone would like to assist me in this lengthy task, I would appreciate it. Once that's done, you can expect build creation to follow.
Also, if anyone is skilled with Photoshop/Illustrator and would like to help me make graphics to be used in the app, that'd be pretty cool too. PM me, email me, whatever.

I am loving the sort by skill effects. Just the other day a friend asked me about interrupt skills and I couldn't remember most of them.
