Hiya, I want to get a more detailed install guide. I just bought an Imac and I want to get guild wars running on it. I downloaded the 1.5 edition, double-clicked and dragged the file to applications. It started loading fine, did the client download and went to launch. But I just got a black screen with the music in the background. Any help with how to sort this? Im trying other versions as im typing
Specs:
Intel core duo 2 - 3.06ghz
4 GB Ram
Geforce 9400M 256mb
OS 10.6.8
Any help would be appreciated
EDIT: Downloaded version 1.4 and it is running now.
Just downloading files for ToA.

Will this work with GW2. I just found this thread on google and have not played guild wars for a few years due to my switch to Mac. Want to get back in to it with Guild war 2 wanted to know if this will work for that or will I have to wait and see

I can't give a definitive answer to that as I dont have the GW2 client yet. However, It is most likely that it WILL work. We will just have to wait and see.

Trouble
Well I just tried the 1.5 link, all i got was a bouncing icon and an entirely locked up computer- couldn't even forcequit. I'm going to go back and try some older ones. I'm using 10.5.8, on an old aluminum unibody Macbook. I did get the guild wars downloader popup for about 5 seconds, but then it just freezes. Tried several times.
I found it odd that the v1.5 link was only 3 mB, and 1.4 which I just downloaded (about to try) was several hundred.
Edit: Opening in debug mode is working better so far. It sems to be correctly downloading the files rather than just crashing my computer repeatedly. Will update when it finishes.
What will I be missing if I use v1.4 instead of v1.5?

Not a lot, 1.5 has found to work more smoothly on later systems, but if it isnt working at all, I doubt you care about it.
EDIT: The 1.5 link was 3mb? It should be around 100MB, thats odd, let me look into it.

Swift Question
Hey K A O S Theory,
Is there anyway to fully install all maps & such like you would do if you were playing on Windows? Aka adding "-image" to the end of the name in properties. Much thanks guy.

For the Image command:
Go the app, right click, open package contents, then you want to hit the wineskins app, go advanced, and in EXE flags, put -image. Run the app, take it out when done.

Just wanted to thank you so much if this works. It appears to be working fine so far but I did have to uninstall and reinstall it once before the visuals worked. O just bought the parts to a new PC and the PSU was DOA so until I can get it fixed/another one(which will be a while it seems) I need a place to play and my mactop pro is the best place. <3<3<3<3

Hey I just wanted to say on behalf of everyone who downloaded this client... THANK YOU!
It works amazing and I have no lag over 100fps on my new mac, thank you so much, and I just created an account on this site to formally thank you for what you have given us. I have no quarrels with it, and I was looking in how to do a wine of it myself, however I stumbled upon this, and reading several of the comments it seemed that you were not getting the credit you deserve, so once again thank you for a beautiful port of GW.

hi,
are there any improvements in the ping and fps from 1.4 to 1.5? i downloaded and tried 1.4 a while ago (couldn't download 1.5 no matter what at that time; only now was it possible to download) and there are some breaks while playing.

However, when I go to login, I put in my account name and password, and every single time, it always tells me that my password is incorrect. BUT, I know for a fact that my password is being typed in correctly. So I was just wondering if this client just does not work with trial accounts or if something else is wrong. Thanks!
|
That would be an account issue, the client would have nothing to do with that no matter what client it is. I would make sure you are typing it right, which it soaunds that you are, and make sure you havent linked the same account to Guild Wars 2. When I did, it changed my Guild Wars password to my Guild Wars 2 password. Also, the ncsoft account is NOT your guild wars account, so make sure you are not using your NCsoft account to log in.
