Maximum Character Level
I agree with a level top, but I think levels above Level 20 should be calculated and displayed. If you do this you can see who has the most experience when you looking form a group for a mission. The difference between a new lvl 20 and a lvl 22 is a considerable amount of experience. Of course, that does not necessarily make them better!

That would have a detrimental effect on party formation and gameplay in general, since people of a higher "maxed" level, even if they do not actually have higher stats than a lower "maxed," will look for similarily "experienced" players. Just because the Level is only in Name (or Numbers, however you look at it) doesn't mean it won't act the same as if the actual level cap was raised.
In conclusion, this would be a bad thing to add to the game, since it would raise all of the newbie bashing issues that other games have, and which Guild Wars is trying to avoid...

There is no real beneficial reason for this. The only reason is so people can show off, which is not what GW is about. If there was a beneficial reason, then it would ruin the 20 lvl cap and would defeat one of the basic principles to the game. If you really want to know how many lvls you have gained beyond the initial 20, just keep a record of it.

No, definately not. Personally, I don't even think that your level should be displayed at all after you reach maximum level. What's the point? Everything leading up to it is just preparation. At twenty, character creation is finally finished and you can get down to the business of really playing the game. If you ask me, you should show up as "Ascended" or something, instead.

This is exactly what ArenaNet is talking about when they say that Guild Wars is a game meant to reward skill, not the amount of time played. Players are rewarded and given recognition for being good at the game, not because they've played longer than someone else.
Also, it is completely untrue that all you can do at level twenty is fight other people, but that's been discussed to death on these boards already. Besides, how exactly does letting your level continue to go up after twenty, even though you're not gaining any stats, give you something more to do? The only thing it lets you "do" is watch your level number increase.

Also think about what you are going to do at level 20... YOU WILL GET BORED!! There is no way you will play this game over and over for 6 months waiting for the expansion packs. All you can do at level 20 is fight other people and fight other people there is not much to do so there should be at least a point in going out and fighting monsters to get higher level skills. And when you say keep up with how many times you have level that is correct you have to for none stop i was asked how many times have you leveled after 20 while I tired to join people in PvP.

Lol, you are so funny... we are all 9 year olds... rofl... multiply by 5 and you'd be closer...
I won't get bored at lvl 20, the game content is designed for it. A cap is there for even playing field, you want to play with a nice bit of grind go elsewhere. It isn't juvenile to want a fair game in which a win actually means something - it means nothing in most games except that someone botted for stuff. Here a victory is real - you beat soeone who was on an even footing with you.

The level number is abritrary if you think about its connection to content.
For example, lets take WoW. Lets say that they stopped you at level 20, and all the content between 20-60+ immediately became available to you. Is there suddenly less to do?
I mean, if we went on the idea that the more levels the more content, Anarchy Online and Asheron's Call with its 200+ levels blow all other MMO aways. Except it just does not work that way.

Inde has the right of it. By making almost all the content in this game geared for a single level, the majority of the players (all level 20 after a month or so of play at a casual level) will have PvE content to explore/adventure in. When this is split up, as you move from zone to zone (as you do, even in this game) the content is no longer tactically relevant. If I'm level 20, I don't need to worry about level 5 or 10 mobs - I can just go where I please and there is no challenge, no concern - no game.

I was worried about the end game content of this game...but I think I'll give it a chance. I really hope that it's not all just pvp after lvl 20 cause that would get boring real quick.

That's what's so great about GuildWars PvE. All of the end game content is going to be geared towards level 20 characters as the expansions start coming out.
So rather than having an expansion with a couple new classes and races and a new continent and starting area and leveling areas, it's all just more L20 action - more end-game content.

Yeah, the nice thing about Guild Wars is that you don't NEED to play it 24/7 to have fun. Hell, I don't even know if I'll get a character to level 20 by the time the first expansion comes out. It'll be fun enough to just go around doing mini quests and exploring.

A nice side effect is that you don't really have to worry about "catching up" to your friends - at least in level. They'll be at the same level as you are, so no more desperatly trying to get to their level to adventure with them, falling way behind after a vacation etc... and if you are behind a few missions at level 20, they are still the right level to come help you out, and it won't be boring as you are all on par power-wise.

You're quite the expert on this game which hasn't even opened its servers to the general public yet, aren't you? :>

If I understand what you're saying (and that's kind of a big "if"), you're saying that it's immature to want to have a level playing field; that a person who is level 20 at 50 hours' play should not be equal to a person who is level 20 with 400 hours' play.
See, oddly it seems to me that it's a lot more of a "9-year-old's" viewpoint to insist that you get to have a bigger, more uber number over your head just because you had more time to play than other people. If you want to be better than everyone else, how about trying to be a more skillful player, not just a player wth higher levels?
I for one am delighted at the idea that if one of my friends picks up the game in four months, I'll only be a week or so away from grouping with him. I've never gotten much satisfaction out of the "Welcome to the game...once you reach my mighty level 30 we can group....but oh, wait, I'll be leveling while you're getting to 30, so I'll be an even mightier 50 by then...well, it looks like you'd better get cracking then."

WOW
That was more quoteing my post then ever before but...
I have a idea sense on my thread i posted the thing about the movement and how it would add even more of a skill based thing to the game please check out what a friend of mine put up at the post "Movement Suggestion" and tell me what you think. This in my point of view would make this game if not the best one of the best strategic RPGs out there.
