I moved this to Sardellac Sanitarium, as it doesn't fit in the Q/A forum.

Actually, I find Naval Battles in Ships really interesting. Maybe not for missions, but Definently for PvP. Think, There would be open water, You opposing an enemy ship. 1 person to pilot the ship, 1 to man a cannon, 3 to row(Well, Depends on the ship), And the last 3 people can stay on as crew, to jump ship to ge to the other's ship and attack them head on.

That would be a blast. Super-awesome expansion pack.

I actually made a post about naval battles...somewhere...but my idea was much more large-scale. Two teams of eight boats each with eight people per boat...but that's not important.

I believe that Housing should be implemented. Here's how I think it could work; In the Guild Hall, have a closed door. When you purchase or win some upgrade, the door opens with a limited number of rooms, and a closed door at the end. Win another upgrade, it adds another. Each hallway could be a seperate instance so that visually, the Guild Hall does not need to change much on the exterior. Have door keys for each room, so that a Guild Leader can get reimbursed the money, if the upgrade is purchased (which I think it should be) by charging money for a room. Have an NPC somewhere to sell furnishings and such. True, it's a waste of money. But you know what my main problem with Anarchy Online was? No tables. They had appartments, which you could buy paintings and lamps and all sorts of things for, but no tables. Just being able to take a break and do something random is fun, and the rooms can still be used for things like meeting people.

Ships are an interesting idea. How do you get from Ascalon to Kryta? Why, you go over the mountains of course. But how do you get over the mountains? I ran across them. No missions. So, how do you get to those islands? I want freedom, I don't want to do a mission. A ship will make it possible for people who just want to go exploring to do so. Maybe have small islands that you do not pass on missions with special NPCs or something. Other boats could contain pirates you must fight off as you sail.

Having PvP that takes place on boats would, in my opinion, be a great addition. If there were more than two teams, there would be more strategy. Having a specific player in charge of directly the boat means that there is an added incentive to take out that player early, because it means that boat is fairly useless. Maybe have cannons that can be used, so the angle your ship faces, the speed it is moving, and the angle the other ship faces are all important for dealing damage to it. Players and ships can have seperate health (the ship being much higher, of course) so that it is possible to kill people on a boat, or destroy the boat completely, to defeat your enemy. Really, I just think it would be cool.

Naval missions and pvp battles are a nifty idea. I don't really see the point of using them for travel, per se.

As for mounts, they serve no purpose. Guild Wars is a very complex game in some ways, but is intentionally simple in others. It's designed to abolish the endless tedium of collecting and harvesting and refining and building all so you can look good. Crafting endgame armor may take a while, but it's nothing like crafting in a game like FFXI.

Mounts seem similar to me. They serve no purpose. If they don't have a practical reason for being, that makes them very trivial. If they serve a practical purpose like speeding people up, that doesn't just frustrate healers like me who already have to perform acrobatics when groups split up, but it also gives clever players ways to abuse systems and other players.

Houses seem unnecessary. It's just another "thing" to collect. Players can already use vault boxes. What more do they need? If I wanted to play the Sims, I'd play the Sims. When I'm playing Guild Wars (and perhaps I'm in the minority here) I'm online to accomplish something. I'm playing to run missions, I'm playing to explore, I'm playing to buy or sell something. If I'm lounging, I'm probably taking a pee break or about to log off. I don't need a house to sit around and entertain people in. The game is my entertainment. Even if I could customize it and decorate it by spending lots of gold and running lots of quests and crafting lots of items, it would be trivial and a throw-back to the MMO games Guild Wars is trying so successfullly to not be.

I understand players wanting to be more and more individual, but every new "get/have/find/collect/wear/ride/own" idea inches GW away from its very attractive simplicity toward the overwhelming tedium of other MMO games.

I don't want to ride horses and stuff in this game. I definitly don't want to ride a dragon or a unicorn or a griffon or a pig or a yak (well, maybe a yak) or whatever. They couldn't offer overwhelming benefits because that would go against the whole idea that it's dependant on the skills you use to achieve success - way of thinking. I dunno, it seems silly to me (for this game).

Housing? We have Guild Halls that are soon to be blessed with some sort of guild storage or something and I've heard some asthetic changes might be added as well. Sure, maybe in a true Massively Multiplayer (no instancing) it might be cool, but I'm more than happy where it stands (if they add the storage and such).

As for the ships... lol, I honestly thought you were kidding. Sea Voyages? I dunno, I'm not tryng to be offensive but I think that this is more out of the question that I can even imagine. I'm happy with going to a port and teleporting to wherever it takes me... I'd like to see more places to explore personally, but I don't want to take a ship out to sea or anything crazy like that. Not in this game at least. Next people will be asking for Desert Caravans and wanting to go to the floating airships and explore the clouds and such.

I can't say I really agree with anything you've said regarding these little "bonuses". And before we start getting huge things like this (if ever) I'd rather have more vibrant and living cities and outposts. I heard some good suggestions about having more NPC's in outposts who are camping and sharpening weapons and such. Making the Refugees look like refugees... etc. etc. Basically adding some emotion into the game. Also, I'd rather have more armour and weapon variations and just more variety to everything that exists now... let's not add totally new things before we finish what we've started..
i agree completely, its a WASTE of time, mounts werent built into the game, they just wouldnt fit in, houses...where would your house be hmm? the maps are already set up. naval battles MAYBE but wait, no gunpowder, oh snap, pointless...

lets just leave the main gameplay ALONE, more than 70% of the gw community would like it ebtter WITHOUT this stuff

I haven't really done the "MMORPG" thing so I don't have some of the baggage (or experience) that some of you have, but I liked the idea of the House and even integrating it into the Guild Hall. I think customization for the Guild Hall is key, but remember, there are many people with many ideas. My Guild will have a hard enough time just choosing the hall, much less, how to decorate, add on, etc...The house is a personal thing that is cool.

I thought the sea idea was very cool and could be done without seriously changing the mechanics and "feel" of Guild Wars.

Regardless of what other have posted, prestige is an important part to Online Games. Whether its mounts or additions to a Guild Hall, or wings for your character or buying the Collecters Edition that contains the "Divine Aura", prestige plays a role and instead of writing it off as wrong or as the "n00b" thing to do or as something for megalamaniacs, I think it could be implemented in a way that is fun, but doesn't take away from the overall experience. There will always be people that say look at my cool_____ (insert anything here Armor, Spell, Sword, Guild Cape, Emote, Rank, Mount, Money, Genitals). From what I've seen over the few BWE that I played, for the most part, people wern't like that. People who are like that would probably be more inclined to play EQ/WoW/(insert Generic MMO here). So I don't think mounts for prestige or whatever else would be bad. I think its something that would add to the overall game.

Thumbs up Would like to guild stables

I would like to see guild stables in a future expansion. You got a cape, a hall, 50 odd members and counting, now what? There's need to be something more to expand on and spend your guilds money on.
