.......umm,
Why dont you just go all the way and make this:

Killer - Has all the characters spells and traits, but better, and makes it useless to try any different one.

Thumbs up How about a Thief?

How about a Thief? Maybe a ninja? They can sneak attack and steal items without getting caught...usally (adding more skill points would increase their chances of not getting caught.)

Artilleryman, stands a mile back and blows you up with a mortar or cannon!

I hate these threads. Worse yet is that they never search - all of these have been suggested.

So your druid is a ranger essentially with shapeshifting, your rogue is a ranger essentially with backstabbing, which won't be possible really, and the psionic is unplayable. Honestly, if they had a "rogue" outfit for a Ranger you'd essentially have the Rogue right there - take a warrior secondary, use evade type skills, apply poison, traps and a new costume.

How about a bagel salesman? You can get gold from people for bits of bread! What is the point of stealing? In combat it would be impossible, and if you got to take peoples hard earned items everyone would have a thief to avoid having to farm, ew! Imagine going through town and having your possessions vanish - it sounds like WoW ganking all over. Being able to take items or gold would just make it annoying and ruin gameplay; if it was only in missions then thieves would never be invited.

New professions aren't necessary - if they are going to introduce any they'll have to make use of some new feature in order to not compete directly with others; unfortunately most of the possibilities are in use, with the exception of new weapons and such. The ideas I've seen that actually employ new mechanisms could work, but shapeshifting is essentially being a warrior, it's a melee attacker with cool effects. Not surprisingly most of the following if not all have been suggested in the past (I can't remember if they were all here or scattered across various boards)

Conjuring (minions from nowhere)
Shapeshifting (essentailly a way to make a non melee class melee better)
Terrain based (spells used on environment/modifed by environment) (trees, grass, water, snow etc modifying the spell abilities)
New weapons
Disarming (deactivating weapons for time)
Dual wielding
Weaponless (Martial arts)
Illusions (alter apperance, create mirror images, block Line of Sight with illusionary barriers, fog, etc...)
Stealth

I don't really see the point of suggesting classes, as I trust the folks at GW to do their research and come up with ideas, and while I have my own preferences I don't expect them to turn to us for the basics. After all, they are game designers - I am somehow certain that they will manage to come up with ideas I don't even thin knew classes are needed, but if they do introduce some I hope they are interesting and not simply recombining existing abilities to make more jack-of-all trades classes. Each class should have a niche, and even introducing 1 new profession will actually be adding 12 new combinations, and thus 6*(150!/8!142!)=1,766,423,033,575,200 new builds, discounting attribute selection - so even a single new class will change the landscape a great deal IF it has a new way of doing things.

The only one that I could see would be the Psionic - and you can already use that strategy. Mesmer/Ranger would do it - you take the ranger for the constant pet, and the Mesmer for the brain tumor inducing magic =)
One of the goals with the game is to allow pretty much any strategy you want, with as few choices as possible. The reason for this (from my standpoint) is understandable - the more classes you have, the more abilities. The more abilities, the more difficult it is to ensure that a certain combination isn't "broken".
These three strategies are already in the game - you just have to build your character right. If you want the roleplaying feel for them, you may want to suggest new lines of clothing for characters that would allow you to better roleplay these types.

Right - that's what I was saying about the rogue - it is easy to make a "Druid" by using Ranger and Elementalist together for example - the trick is the look - I think that suits of armour/clothing are the solution - it will make recognising characters harder in PvP, but the status bar shows class breakdown anyway.

Oh my garsh oh my garsh!! I've got the perfect ideas.

Assassin- Specializes in traps, martial arts, and improving her mind.

Druid- Specializes in shape shifting, summoning, and controlling some elements.

Sorceress- Specializes is control over fire, ice, and lightning.

Paladin- Specializes in control over auras (both offensive and defensive) as well as using the power of the heavens.

Barbarian- Specializes in weapon masteries, yells, and combat.

Amazon- Specializes in using a bow, a javelin, and passive abilities.

Necromancer- Specializes in using bone/poison spells, summoning spells, and curses.

(This right here, yes this, is just for people who can't tell how EXTREMLY sarcastic I was being)
