The people who are arguing for more levels are missing some essential understanding of game theory. While I'm not going to explain the mathematical groundwork that games are based upon I will present this argument:
Limitations foster creativity.
In this particular case the level cap is essentially what allows for novel gaming, without it the solution for any difficult fight/quest/mission/whatever is pendantic: Gain more levels and try again. No effort on the part of that thing that holds up your hair (brain).
This limitation on certain types of character growth also gives an opportunity for something that is essentially lacking in many lvl = time = power games...wait for it....PLAYER growth.
So thank you ANet for understanding the idea of a level playing field without pointless grind/farming/foolishness.

on-topic - of course lvl cap is irrelevant. i feel sorry for pure roleplayers, they may lose focus after ascension, but I don't at all feel sorry for the crowd which currently has leveling up as their main goal, without even trying or being able to learn how to play. go now, WoW is still somewhat working.
there was one good idea in this thread, besides obvious lvl grinding bashing, which is - mark ascended chars somehow and replace useless lvl with fame. Same applies to pvp-only chars - mark the char as pvp-only, and use fame instead of lvl. This would help sort quickly through the newbies who create pvp chars with nothing unlocked while looking for party.
And please, please ANet - give us salvation from the endless trade abusers. Make a trade auction type thing, where people will be able to put their offering for a insertion fee (percent of their proposed sale value), and use trade channel to automatically post messages about new additions. This would work so much better than the "WTS/WTB" system and material traders which, admit it, currently are absolutely pointlessly taking valuable map space with their 1gold/material buying price.

The day the level goes beyond 20 is the day I find a better game. Its stupid, GW isn't a grinders paradise, if you want to spend hours endlessly killing monsters and leveling go back to EQ or whatever overrated game you would prefer.

The level cap is fine.
But after level 20 everyone looks the same (unless they have played long enough to afford stupidly expensive armor or dye themselves all black).
Why not let players inspect more detailed information about other players?
The game already records character creation date, hours played, and a count of deaths. Total exp, skill points gained, skills aquired, skills and items unlocked are all available. Let other players access a summary of that information and perhaps a total for that players account.
I played PvE yesterday with an L20 who said he had 46 skill points available, no wonder he didn't have the tools available to deal with certain difficult PvE situations. I would have liked to have known that when forming a party and would find it more interesting in town browsing other players details than watching them dance.
