Change it for the male elementalist. It is just stupid now, and dancing is fun.
I didn't know it was a reference to anything before this though.
Let the male elementalist do the family guy dance from the petoria episode. Espeically "the worm"

An elementalist is effeminate by nature, in tune with nature is not a brutish kind of thing it's a sensitivity thing.

No, the RANGERS are the ones in tune with nature the most. They are also the primary worhsippers of the nature deity in this game. Some earth mages too, but there are not many of them.
Just change the dance for the male elementalist. It can't be that hard.
I think the rangers should have a command to make their pets dance.

Flute playing is silly, and ok.

I always use the drum playing as my "shirtless dance" since it actually looks more like a spastic dance than drumming.

For the flute, violin, drumgs, or anythign else that is pretending that there is an actual object there they should add a wireframe outline of the drums, flute, etc, to show they are imaginary, but make what the person is doing obvious.
Unless they add a mime action too---mesmers could lean against an invisible wall, warriors could act like they are trapped in a box, rangers could pretend to be pulling on a rope...
lol
Seriously though, and this is a real suggestion: The text associated with action commands should be directable to a particular person, so you don't always see "X taunts you" when they are tauntings somebody else. Instead you shoudl see "X taunts Y" if you are any character other than Y or the normal message if you are Y. The same thing goes for other such commands.
I would like to be able to congratulate a particular person or point to a particular person, or taunt a particular person, without everybody around thinking that it is directed at them.

Why O Why
Personally I don't see the point of /dance. Why is it in every MMO? Sure its kind of fun to look at the first few times, but people still get in their underwear and dance.
I have to agree with you about the different classes dancing to their part, or real-life counterpart. Meaning you the player. Most Jocks in real life prefer the Jock in a game. People who don't sociallize well and play magic the gathering or other non active games tend to play the brain classes like the mage.
Warrior - Jocks - Look at me I'm the Bad ass dancer
Ranger - hippies - I think they messed this dance up
Monk - nice people - dance fits more the character not the reallife player
Necro - Goth - I could see them doing the Eliane dance, or the goth dance from southpark. Wall flower shoffle
Mesmer - banker? - More the character than player but works
Element - loner - Is not the cool kid that girls want to dance with.
Sorry thats the way I feel. I think some of the classes I guess could be retouched or maybe have /dance1 /dance2 /dance3

I died laughing when I realized my poor Kiba was bustin' out with the Elaine dance. I think it's great, although yes, it should loop.
I like Beadle's idea of adding the shuffling dance for the Necros... that was just hilarious. Too bad they can't pipe The Cure or Bauhaus in through Areyon's PA system...

Mages are geeks. They're the geeks of the medieval fantasy world. They should dance like geeks. The dance is absolutely perfect for them. It's one of the best in the game at capturing the flavor of the character in question.
Either that or the dance from the Genesis song, "I Can't Dance."
In the suggestions department, though, it would be nice to someday see the command improved such that you could do things like:
/dance ballet
/dance flamenco
/dance tango
/dance watusi
/dance locomotion
etc. Then we could really Begin the Beguine...
