Elemental weapons pointless?
It took me a rather long time to find a sword that did lightning damage. When I finally found one I was pretty excited because I finally had the last weapon that I wanted. Well, it wasn't exactly what I thought it would be like. When I attack it looks the exact same and has no special effect or anything more damaging to enemies. You think spending this much time finding an elemental weapon would pay off. It's really no different than a regular weapon. I guess I was expecting it to be like Diablo, but I must accept the fact that this game isn’t Diablo to the full extent.
So I am just suggesting later on if something could be added into an update that would give elemental weapons some extra attack effect. Like lightning damage would create a little shock effect when you hit enemies or if you can’t do that just make the regular attack effect change color to blue or something. Ice would be white and earth would be a brownish color.

I thought it gave more Armor Penatration power, since its Lightning after all. I'm not sure though, but thats what I thought.

If its any consolation, Elemental damage will bypass the extra 20 AL on another Warrior's platemail armor. But yes, it would be neat to see a specail graphic for each type of element instead of the default red hits.

I've been saying it since I first discovered noobs unnatural facination with The Gasoline Drenched Hairpins also known as Fiery Dragon Swords.
The only REAL reason I could see (sure it bypasses the 20 but then it does less against like rangers) is to use with like conjure flame or something.

elemental attunement, armor penetration, and bypassing buffs(lightning damage swords do extra damage against earth buffs, I believe). Just like using an icy weapon against an inferno imp, or a fire sword against a plant enemy. It does to damage, to elementally-attuned enemies.

I normally carry both an elemental weapon and a physical damage weapon so I can switch depending on who I am fighting.

Besides the fact that they might have been holding off on this so they could release the game on time. There are some creatures that have negative resistance vs certain elements... and elementalists skills such as "conjure lightning" add to lightning dmg (Only if you have that same spec dmg)... But as for the change in item look, i totaly agree, but i don't think it needs to be added before an auction house/change in trading system-- economy is by far more important then alot of things in this game... see'n how its an mmorpg, and it just came out... the max gold is Way too easy to attain for the power gamers, making all items grow in price far too fast for us more casual gamers, and totaly gimping the real casual gamers to the point in where they cant trade for much of anything they really want/looks cool...

Thats the only reason I carry my stupid Flame Sword, its not better than my actual sword but I use it against Ice Golems and such for the extra "weakness against fire" damage lol. Every other time though I use my normal Barb'd Forked Sword of Defense(Gold) lol.

I don't think they should make all manner of spell casting weapons like the lightsaber in D2, but better graphics for elemental weapon attacks wouldn't be bad. I think they aught to make more useful weapons for other classes as well though, they will never match warrior or even ranger for damage because they wouldn't have an attribute to increase thier attack, something thats a bit more useful would realy help.
I realy thought whips would be great for mesmers, requiring domination to equipt There are alot of cool weapons they could create for every class, and ways to improve the way they look, I hope they add some nice goodies in the future.
P.S. I want to be owned by a female Necro/Mesmer speciallizing in domination and wielding a whip
