Default Game Experience and Time Spent credit

Ok now, I know this game is all about skill and not time spent playing and with this tread I no intention on changing that factor. In the game currently when you reach lvl 20 you continue to gain exp and fil your exp bar and once it is full you still remain lvl 20 but you get skills point each time. Nothing else changes and I think that is great. But, my suggestion is to allow us to go beyond lvl 20 but not get stronger, in other words keep everything exactly the way it is now, only the number changes. each time you lvl you still have the same max health, max energy, 200 atribute points, and everything else that you did when you hit lvl 20. All you get is still the skill points each time you lvl to learn more skills. Nothing changes but the number that represents your lvl. therefore, a lvl 20 and a lvl 40 would still be exactly the same nothing different, but you lvl past lvl 20 will basically just serve as a way for showing how much time you have spent playing the game, killing stuff, doing quests and missions, and refilling that exp bar over and over agian post lvl 20. I think that if they are going to continue adding more areas, creatures, quests and missions for pve, well, we'll need to kill those creature, complete those quests and missions, and explore those areas, therefore gaining exp and spending time.... and with they way the game is now, whenyou walk into a town to recruit for your group, there is no way for for people to tell if you just went from lvl 19 to 20, or if you've been lvl 20 for some time and have explored every aspect of the game and have spent much time killing and questing. You'd still be the same as a new lvl 20, but i just think even though this game if based on players skill, and it doesn't reward the hardcore and their time spent playing, it think those players should at least get a way to show their time spent.

Now remember, this is a way of increasing the lvl without making anyone stronger and without making anything out of balance. a fresh new lvl 20 will still beable to easily kick the hell out of a lvl 50. With what I'm suggesting absolutely nothing about the game will change from the way it currently is, other than just the number that represents your lvl, which post lvl 20 will only serve as a way of showing your game experience.

So, please, I DO NOT want to see any replies about wanting to raise the lvl cap and all the crap in the other treads out there, nor do i want to see all the crap about causing imbalance and crap... read my post entirely before you post.

if it changes nothing the only question is...

are those people so desperate for any way to show i am higher than you are they would grab at a meaningless number?

you seem to be talking a glorified senority system that gives an intangible reward for showing up and playing

I think I like it but something about the idea makes me feel sick in the pit of my stomach.

But it still is meaningless, why would you care what "level" someone is if it is skill based?

This sounds like another ego boost for kiddies with lots of time, a way for those who can't earn respect to get it through time spent. If it's a way to prevent getting idiots in your group you can always just leave if they are bad - I left a group last night when an idiot wouldn't stop drawing swastikas on the minimap. You'll get bad players with lots of game time getting preferential treatment over good players with less game time, which hardly seems right.

yeah, i see your point, do to the fact that this is a free game, the community has a lot of immature people and assholes, so yes, there probably would be a lot of people running around towns and in groups talking about how elite they are and bragging about their lvl and how they pwn and crap.... well, all i can say is i hate people! I don't want this change so that people can do that sort of thing. thing is though, no matter how much these people brag, they are still just the same as a lvl 20 and can die just as easy.

i'm also not wanting this for me, i just hit lvl 20 and have not refilled my bar not once yet, and i don't have a lot of time to play, i just figured this would be a way better idea that what everyone else wants with raising the lvl cap and making people accually stronger than others, and causing unbalanceness.

I agree with this statement....

If there is really no reason to increase levels, don't. it's a waste of time (implementing it). Plus, all those "uber" morons will remain. If we leave it at 20, they will get bored and move on, thus purging the community.

Even if this proposed system were to be implemented, it still wouldn't show who has more skill. I have a friend that would probably have a higher level than me even though I'm finished with the last mission. Why? Because he farms a lot. You also have to ask yourself this: What if I'm on my 4th character and just want to play straight through the game? I'll already have the experience of going through it 3 times but nothing show for it on my 4th time.

Actually, I want this feature enabled. I now need to level purely to get skill points and showing your level after level 20 would allow you to have a good grip on how hard it will be to level again. Counting "elite" skills I now need approximately 20 skill points to get every skill for my W/Mo.

Right now I'm "guessing" that I'm around level 30 or so but it's hard to tell. Since each successive "level" is harder to achieve it would be nice to have an indicator to guage this. Since it won't effect any actual game play I don't see why there would be an issue with this. Also, to stop any "bragging" your level past level 20 should only be visible to you and no one else. Thus, even though YOUR character would display "level 32" you'd still only appear as "level 20" in towns and such.

This idea sounds a lot better the way you put it. But there is already a way to show how XP is needed to get your next skill point. Just go to the hero screen and mouse over the xp bar in there and it'll tell you.

I would like to see the level cap increased as well. However, I have another idea besides leaving everything the same. Instead of getting attribute points and health, energy, etc. : still give them a skill point AND 1 health. 1 Health wouldnlt equal the signifigance of a normal level increase until lvl 40. (assuming that it's +20 health per level.) Maybe cut it out at level 40. So, you could essentially gain the equivelant of one more level in health...IF you played 20 more levels. Sure, some would do it. However, it wouldn't outbalance things by much. Esp. since each level requires more XP to reach and it would take a LOT to reach level 40. Esp. with level 20 stuff.

the whole idea of the level cap is so they can provide balanced content for one level of player rather than varying levels of conetnt for different levels splitting their time

this way everybody shares any new content not just the higher levels

yes, i agree here too, see i personally don't really like to group with real people other than my girlfriend. close friends and guild mates if they need the help and stuff, but most of my exploring consists of me, my girlfriend, and henchmen... though the henchmen need a serious upgrade in the A.I. department, but that's a different subject. anyways, i'd be fine with it if only you can see your true lvl while everyone else see lvl 20. that way you can personally know just how many time you have refilled that lvl bar past lvl 20.

Perhaps a cool addition would be if each face (there were surprisingly few in the character creation screen) had "aging" features. You choose one face and when you hit 50 hours it goes to the next (slightly older) then at 100 hours it goes to the next (little older), then at 200 hours next (wrinkled) then at 300 hours the final (wizened).

hmm i wouldn't want to look old and frail with huge armor on me

hopw about this, you get scars, your armor get nicks, etc? well the 15k can do that just to save time on the rest as time goes on because people won't buy 15k over and over for the hell of it.

how about 0-100 hours- the armor is brand new, shiny 100-150 few nicks, rips 150-200 more nicks, dents, rips, and 200+ would look like its falling apart slightly :P bUT that's only for the armor not the character

in fact, let's call it silly and move on
and about finding out how many levels, count all the missions you';ve completed it, the 1 point you got from the presearing quest, subtract that from the amount of skill points you've earned and there's your true level.

What would the battle damage look like on monk tattoos?

Anyways, I do think they need some kind of message of seniority. Although raising the level cap doesn't quite suit my tastes (Guild Wars is supposed to be the "level 20 free only PvP RPG isn't it?") Maybe add some kind of symbol to show status. Whether it is based on how much that account has unlocked, number of elite skills, wins in HoH, fame, etc. Just some kind of visible marker for the more experienced players.

Isn't that what the poster is asking for? Maybe a dot behind the [profession/profession level] of those with some knowledge, to a diamond for veterans, and a star or something for the Korean players...I mean um, the players who have mastered the game.

just cause something doesn't matter to some, doesn't mean it doesn't matter to all. true this isn't as important as other things, but it is something that could be added... this is a forum for suggestions not for absolute requirements that HAVE to be added. i really don't think you have anything to worry about, unless you are trying to say the developers are idiots and you really think they would rather add this than some of the of the more important requests?! i could think of a whole ton of things more important that i'd like for them to do before they evey think about this, but most of those things are already posted... most over and over again, so why add more of those repeat posts when you can come up with something else for them to consider also in the future. it's the developers time and their money and they will do with it as they please, we give them ideas, and they make there choices. they might rather add a whole bunch of small ideas to the game that would take little time and money, just to let us all know they are still adding stuff, while the rest of the team is working on the more harder, time and money taking ideas that everyone wants.
