My issues with GW
I've been playing GW since the October Beta Event and i've seen a lot of things chance, to both good and bad.
These are, in my oppinion, the only things that keep GW from being the best, or at least one of the......
#1 Pre and Post-searing:
There are a lot of complaints about the n00bland, as a lot of people call it, but that's not exacly my issue.
My issue here is more about the fact they changed Post-searing to fit the Pre-searing lay-out and also changed the entire look of the area.
Ascalon used to look pretty nice, sure it was ruined and all but it had some nice sites and views, the best thing i've seen now the Balthazar's statue.
This may not be so bad if entire new Post-sear didn't look like a steaming pile of sh*t that gets boring to look at after a while.
#2: Missions, Quests + idiotic difficulty balance + stupid bots = Hell itself
In early beta, i used to lone through all the quests, which was fairly easy (no bots, sometimes 1 healer) and then do a mission with a party, which was pretty though, but fun.
Now the missions are way too easy, i can easily read a book and keep holding the way key and just press c and space when i hear sounds of fighting(i only did this once, but i was the most entertaining mission i've played since release, oh and don't worry, i won't do it again, soon )
On the other hand, the quests are way too difficult, there is no way to lone without bots like in the early beta's, this forces you to take a party everywhere you go.
The problem is, especialy with smaller quests, you often can't find a (good) party to go with, in which case you'll have to use henchies.
If there's anything more stupid then these bots it has to be.... dead, or something, i mean, unless a healer running away when hordes of monsters attacks "it" is a violation of bot honor and forces them to cut their heads off like samurai, it kinda smart to get out of they way when becoming the tank, maybe even help someone.
Ok, last one
#3: America vs. Korea vs. a bunch of countries with various languages and cultures that just happen to all be in the continent Europe:
Ok, 2 countries filled up with with GW player: America and Korea, that bunch of other countries somehow has to act like it is one to be able to compete with America and Korea.
I hope nobody thinks Europe is one country, far from it, in fact, right now there's voting going on in all countries inside the European Union to create a European law, although it's only about things like human rights and child labor, many people here in da Netherlands are voting against it because they think it'll eventualy lead to one country like the US where we, The Netherlands, a very small country, will have nothing to say.
France has already rejected the European law, which, in that "we'll have nothing to say" kind of position, would mean that at least half of France doesn't want to be one European country, and as far as i know it'll be rejected here as well.
You can clearly see that Europe is certainly not one country just by getting into the nearest town, French and Germans are especialy annoying in this case (other maybe as well, but it them that really stand out because of it).
French and Germans, the standard player(of course there are those who do not match with this): they only want to talk to people from their own country, they only trade with countrymen, and they will always look for a group where most players talk their language.
I've even seen people who aren't French or German, but still talk in that language in the trade channel to get some more attention.(i'll pay more attention at my French and German class from now on )
How in the world is Europe going to compete agianst Korea and America if there isn't any unity??
And what's the use of that country vs. country type HOH competition??? This game is called GUILD Wars, right? (no? woops, wrong forum ) Not Country Wars, GUILD Wars, Not just those one-man guilds you get in N00bland. Why can't we just see "The Dragons Wrath guild has won a battle in the Hall of Heroes and stays at first place in world ranking!"??????
Ok, that's enough...... for now, harhar.
-> this is just my oppinion!! <-, so don't flame me because i said something you didn't like (hmm, why am i getting all these German dudes at my house? )
I just hope someone agrees with me and maybe Anet can even take a hint from this.
And i hope you liked reading until this day
thnx!

I do agree that country vs country isnt a good idea.
Its unfair to some players in areas that dont compete as well and in some cases inspires racisim.
What would have been swell would have been to select a diety in character creation. Newly formed guilds would select a diety too. However, the guilds gods will not change your god. Then when that guild whens HoH, everyone with that selected diety would receve the blessing.
Also if a person wanted to change dieties they could do quest (like secondary class changing quest). But the quest offers no bonus or reward and to change back and forth you would have to do the quest again.
A guild should be able to change its deity too, by some way of challenging the gods or something.

First, it is not country against country. They are areas. The Koreans Server is not only Koreans, just people located in that area. The American Server includes the whole American landmass. And many Americans hate Canadians...Anyway, your Country argument is just complaining. If you are trying to win in the Hall of Heroes with a group of people who don't speak the same language as you, it means that you don't know them, so probably wouldn't have won anyway.

From dictionary.com:
sear
v. seared, searĀ·ing, sears - To char, scorch, or burn the surface of with or as if with a hot instrument.
- To cause to dry up and wither.
A steaming pile sounds just about right to me. You've been playing for months according to your post, but this is all you've seen? I just got to Yak's Bend and it was absolutely beautiful after being in Post-seared Ascalon.
I'm impressed by the way the game progresses so far. I got used to seeing the idyllic Ascalon, so post-seared really made me feel for the characters. While I wandered around the Ascalon area, it was very interesting to recognize places that have been completely destroyed. The damage looks realistic as far as earth being turned up, rivers and lakes dried up and debris patterns.

Yak's Bend rocks (mostly because of the Yaks), but just wait until you get to kryta and the maguuma..

Post-searing Ascalon does get kind of bland after a while, but you end up in the Shiverbacks, which is a nice change of pace. Then the greenery picks back up when you hit Kryta and continues to some extent until you get deep into Maguuma Jungle. Then you go out to a desert and then a REAL desert and eventually back to the mountains, finally ending up in a volcano. In other words, the terrain is just as diverse as the game.
With regard to missions, they get harder and the quests get easier later on. So enjoy the easy missions while you can.
In reference to your post about Europe, I certainly hope people don't think Europe is a country. I can see your point to some extent. They should have called the Korean server the Asian server. That would at least keep everything generalized into a specific area. You do realize America isn't a country right? Just as you've generalized people into thinking Europe is a country, America isn't a country either. The United States is a country. Canada is a country. Peru is a country. But they're all Americans, albeit some are North Americans and some are South Americans.

Trust me, it gets a lot prettier.
Yak's Bend [after Nalonai Academy] - snow + cuddly yaks
Lion's Arch [after Gates of Kryta] - just plain beautiful, complete w/ coast
Any of the Jungle Outposts - so much green...

I agree with everything he said, and the "searing" part of his concern is best summed up by Slade Xtekno. However, there's not really anywhere that's easy to explore. If I want to walk around old Ascalon, nothing bothers me... and if something does bother me it gets my dainty feminine (but male) elementalist slipper right in its bum... which usually kills it with a tap. However, I can't just leisurely stroll through the mountains or Lion's Arch or (sweet merciful crap) the Jungle...
And I never liked the country vs. country thing because in most countries (and especially in Korea and America) nationalism is a disgusting social sickness... I don't like to see it supported. I think it would have been super cool (if not a bit more difficult) to have chosen a diety as was said. And to have guilds choose a primary diety. In the event of pick-up groups, it would be the leaders deity or the majority deity (either both or random in the case of a tie).
The more I think on that idea, the more brilliant it seems... and so fitting with the themes of the game... Dude, I think you should start a new thread about that so it gets noticed (and doused in angst-ridden pubescent flames no doubt...)

Well, in #1 i was just complaining about how boring the new post-searing ascalon looked, i'm much further in the game itself, but i just thought that part looked way too grim and grey in contrast to the old ascalon from early beta, i was actually surprised to see that Crystal Desert really had that desert look and feel to it, there's a lot of games where deserts are just endless stretches of the same texture or something.
But i think that deity idea would be pretty cool, and what did they just do? They split all Europeans up by language, now we've got even less people in one district

To me, it just sounds like you don't have a good guild... because our guild, helps eachother with quests... hard missions... and other such things, like getting certain spells...
I mean... guild wars is what the main focus is... get a good guild and you'll have endless fun... i mean... sorry, but the country vs country idea is WONDERFULL, especially since there are missions (post game missions pretty much...) in which are related to the gaining of the favor... its funny, like... when i have the favor, i go straight to those missions, to find things, or w/e... and if i either lose the favor, or get bored of it... i go back to the tombs... and have endless fun with different team combo's... or i just go to the 4v4... but meh...
Racism is something that breaks the terms of agreement... i dont care whats happening... you take a screenshot, and you go to www.guildwars.com... state when it happened, where it happened... and give the screenshot, and blaam, they're character is booted for racism, repeat offenders can have their accounts banned... trust me, if we work together on this, it will make the gaming world think twice about being the immature little *insert random cuss word here* that they can be... i mean... the game isnt about hatred, its about having the fun... i see way too many people becoming, almost... freaky about the competition... like they go into instant convulsions if someone dies... or someone isnt healing enough (becuase there never is enough for those type of people)... i mean...
Alot of groups these days are REQUIRING, something like ventrillo/ts... and im sorry to tell yea, but it doesnt really help that much... some kid screeming his high pitched voice directly into my head is surely not my idea of added "stradegy"... it makes me shut off the ts/ventrillo... i've actually downloaded these crap things just so i can go into these groups... i join them, and then i shut off my headphones... and listen to some music... it's seriously so annoying... and ill follow the group, and attack the targets that are called anyways... it doesnt change how i play at all... this game doesnt require such stupid things... at all... i mean seriously... the stradegy is in how smart the players are... not how well someone can screem stupid stradegies, that someone may disagree with anyways...

Well, about me not having a good guild is true i started one myself with some friends 3 days ago and for 2 days we've done nothing but argue over the cape design now we're finally ready to invite some people.
Anyways, winning the favor is pretty hard for us Europeans since most of the people in European dictrict only want to join parties or guild of their own nationality, like one of my friends in the guild kept saying we should make our cape's detail color orange(da Dutch color )so people could see we're Dutch, but i kept repeating i didn't want a Dutch-only guild because those "my country only" guilds are pretty much doomed in PvP and i plan to do some serious PvPing when i've got my build complete and all (haven't had time to play lately so i'm running behind a little, not even lvl 20 with main char)
