Selling from your Storage Box!
- Overview:
Sell items direct from your account storage box.
- Reasoning:
There are several ways to set up a shop type service but they all have thier issues. Online-Offline, being used as extra storage space for the players, even more data for the servers, unlimited or limited volume? etc etc.
But we already have a storage box. It has a fixed storage amount of space so the amount of items each player could sell is limited anyway.
- Idea:
You could select items in your account storage box to be 'on sale'.
A box would be available for you to select the value you wish to assign to 'per piece' of the item.
For Sale items would be available to buy via an in game merchant npc that can be placed in key towns.
Merchants could be restricted to what they show! i.e: In ascalon they may only show common resources and minor runes for sale. Lions Arch they may show blue and purple items etc. That way you can stop some flooding of top items to low level areas.
You already have money storage now so payments would go directly into your storage account.
- Conclusion:
People would not use trade spam so much as that method is usually where scams come from anyway! With a secure trade area where you can view all the items on sale based on your npc merchant, then you have security from scamming!
With limited sale space available to you as your account storage box isn't that large, most players will only want to list a few key items up for sale at a time.
Shops like this always help drive down the costs of items.
A 10% sellers charge on items sold can always be added to help remove money out of general circulation and reduce inflation!

Although I don't like some aspects of the idea (like NPC's selling it for you) I do generally like the idea. We could have an A-Bay (Ascalon Bay) to sell items in. Perhaps there could be a bazaar in every district where you can tell them to sell items which are flagged in your storage. That'd be pretty cool. It would also mean a much stabler economy (but still a player determined economy) since somebody selling a sigil for 30K next to somebody selling a sigil for 15K would not get anything sold, so everything would work out into a sensible balance.

Ah I think you missed the NPC point I was making.
I do not mean the NPC is a shop, I mean it's just a place holder where you access the list of items players have put for sale.
It could be a noticeboard or even a shop door. The reason I said npc is that players are already familiar with seeing NPC's and interacting with them. It's one less tool tip that needs to be added for new players

You know Tormunda... which we add this idea to your bulletion board idea it would rock!
There be no need for a auction house. All they need to do is increase the storage box size a bit and then allow us to setup prices... people could buy stuff and the money is auto given to us...
Unless they wanted to discuss the price so they could use a Send Whisper about item X function

I'm glad the idea is returning some favourable remarks from fellow players.
It's a nice simple idea and a lot of the system is already there.
It also has the added effect that Arena net can monitor game prices and availability with ease. If they see the market flooded with what should be rare items, then they can adjust the drop rates.
Likewise when we were all trying to get hold of Fur Squares at release, Anet would have had a 1 shop stop to see just how many were for sale and what kind of horrid prices they would go for!
In the view of the long term game, i think it would be a useful tool for players and designers alike!

I absolutely support the idea of designated slots within an expanded storage area for selling items. I do believe that it would require a bazaar zone as you suggested. Even if that zone had limited access to x-number of players at a time, it would be well worth the change in the current system.

I say that's a marvelous idea, setting up a bazzar into each city, or just a general bazzar in some extra location, wich of course, should be instat-arrival(you can travel to it since the very start of the game) guess that making a new zone apart would be a better idea, and even better if that zone it's fitted into a separated server(mean the phisycal machine, to ease the painful lag it might create) i'd suggest that this zone/zones, might be avaibles for the PvP players aswell, my reasoning for that is that if the pvp players are given money when they win pvp combats, they can go freely and buy runes/stuff to unlock it, tough, this is just a secondary idea... can't add more to your base thought, it's great, i thought that something like that might work out, indeed, my idea wasn't so bright, didn't catched the vault/NPC interaction *claps* hope ncsoft will see your post, or if they saw, just they think seriously about it

Really nice really nice, I like it a lot.
I only see one problem with this
seeing how a lot of people play Guildwars.. the list.. that would come up if you ask the NPC.. would be HUGE.
I mean even if per account you can store up to 5 items for sale.. let's take a low average of 1000 people playing at the time in the game.
and you divide it over 3 groups
golden items
purple items
everything below purple
let's take the equal for the ease
each has 333 players who sell stuff
so each one would be 333 times 0-5 items.. averagly (333x3) 999 items would be listed.. per town..
solution:
perhaps divide the things sold.
Runes
- each profession
Weapons
- wands
- swords
- axes
- bows
- hammers

well it could be split with districts.. thus limiting the list by alot.. ig rumor serves i think its 50 people in 1 district?? so that would be 50*5 = 250 items in the window at the VERY MOST and then again you could split it into the pgold/purple/less categories

The problem with doing this, is it would make it a lot easier for people to make macros that farm, and sell items while a player isn't at the computer, and this would give hackers a huge advantage(gold wise, and item wise) over everyone else.

That would be annoying though...
what if you don't have much money and you're looking for a reasonable priced weapon for example.
you'd have to go by every district to see what's the best option to pick.
because else you get things like.
hmm... looks like a nice sword yeah I'll buy it.
friend: hey meet me in district 5
*teleports*
hey.. what do I see here.. the same/better sword for cheaper! ack.. if only I had seen it in the other district >_<

As guild wars haves many districts for each zone, any zone/splited zone from main city/or city will have many districts, so the problems witht the items storage or the number of people asking for your offers will be limited anyway, most of the time buyers/sellers will be crowding the 1st districts, but they will forced to get to sencond in the moment they reach the district cap,so... i guess a NPC will never get a nuke of 999 requests in less than a timespan of 5 minutes or so, like the xunlai store agents, there willl be some around, like 3 or more, i'd say that more npc's, and the shops that players set will be differenced by district, and by NPC, a selller NPC should have a limited number of shops set on it, well, hope this help out a bit more, ^_^
