WTS Runes!!! Guild Wars' Biggest Weakness
So far I've been really impressed with Guild Wars. I love instanced missions, the death penalty, the use of PvE as a preparation of PvP, etc. My first character ascended last night, and I can't wait to PvP more.
But I have noticed one major weakness of Guild Wars, one part of the game that is far behind other online games. Namely, trading and the economy.
In Star Wars Galaxies, for instance, if I went to sell some loot I've found, I can buy vendors (merchants, basically) and set them up with merchandise. And there is a bazaar for people who don't want to use vendors--it's basically a global vendor for everyone to use.
What if I want to sell something in Guild Wars? I basically have to stand in a zone for hours shouting "WTS Runes." It makes selling and buying things really annoying. Not only does this discourage me from trying to buy or sell anything, but it annoys the heck out of me when I run through town and get barraged with a million trade messages (and have to turn off shout and/or trade for that reason).
Can't Guild Wars set up a bazaar system like Star Wars Galaxies? Or, if that is unworkable, at least set up merchants (perhaps called "Black Market Merchants") who buy rare/great items from players (for a not-so-high, but decent price) and then resell the items at exhorbitant prices back to players? If we can't have a real bazaar, that would be a decent second option.
Anyone agree with me? Trading and the economy is the only really poorly designed or planned part of Guild Wars, in my opinion.
