Intoxicated longer...?
I've talked with quite a few people on the affects of ale in the game, and if you haven't tried it, cough up 1 platinum piece and take 5 real quick, which gives you a decent view of what goes on.
Anyways, a lot of the people I've talked with were wondering if it would be a good idea to make the effect last longer, so they could fight, or do entire missions tanked without spending 100k on Ale, as it only lasts a minute or two.
If this kind of ale was instituted, it could cost more than Dwarven Ale, and be sold elsewhere...maybe Kryta or Maguuma Jungle.
This way, it's sort of like another gold sink, and it amuses players for a while. Though, you'd most likely need to add a caution warning because too long with the screen spazzing out can make your eyes go O_o

Longer duration makes ale a less efficient gold sink.

Sounds like an excelent idea to me.
Getting drunk in real life doesn't last for only a couple of minutes, so it shouldn't in game either.
I haven't experimented with the current ale, but I think it would be good if it would also add random player movement and occasional hic-ups. Maybe it could cause players to do random emotes too.

Yes...random emotes would rock...and it would be better if you couldn't prevent them from happening/ending. For example, you're running through town, to the crafter, and all of a sudden your character decides it wants to play Rock, Paper, Scissors, and you can't stop it until the animation ends.
But, eA-Zaku makes a good point too, that it would become a less efficient gold sink if the effects lasted longer. And in order to fix that, the price would have to be severly jacked up, 5 platinum the least I'd have to guess, so the casual drinker wouldn't go out on a "whim" and buy it unless they were rich, and the people who honestly want to play a mission drunk...can pay for it.

Well, like you said in the original post, leave the dwarven ale as it is, and add other, more expensive drinks that last longer and have other interesting effects, such as the random emoting, and the difficulty walking in a straight line.

my vote is for some sort of magical mushroom.
throw in some random hallucinations with the drunkeness and your all set.
maybe you'll get to see your "spirit animal" fighting along side you or something like that.
if they wanted to throw a time sink in along with a money sink make it so that you have to collect the shrooms somewhere, then bring them to a collector to refine them into something usable for a price. shroom tea or something. the shrooms by themselves could poison you if you tried to use them before making the tea.

ArenaNet are very much against time sinks. But money sinks are good! Even if ArenaNet haven't fully realised that yet.

I read that the ale only lasted like a few minutes. I don't know the exact number. I had expected it to last for about 10-15.
Maybe they wanted to start with a smaller duration just to see how everyone would react to it? Now that it's pretty obvious people are enjoying it, maybe they can provide longer lasting inebriations, or simply raise the timer on the current one.
Indeed, it would make it perhaps less of a gold sink, but the more value people see out of something, the more they're willing to spend on it.

Geez, I never thought people would want booze and drugs so badly in GW. Life does get better once you get out of the Ascalon ruins!

I'd love to see it, but I'm positive they wouldn't include mushrooms.
But as for the duration, agreed. I mean, one ale does nothing (bit of a wavy screen). The most I've had at once was 3, all I had patience to kill bears for in pre-sear. That was cool. But I seriously want to try like, 15 in a row. Is there an amount where it just can't screw you up anymore? Perhaps the previously mentioned idea for "charr piss" could last a short while (few minutes) and also maybe take away some life and energy as it wears off.
(And Dan Mega, I love your avatar! Great movie!! needs to be seen by everyone who has ever even had a job!)

Now your talking! No, really the mushroom idea is funny and good, I like that. As well I would like to see the ale have a longer effect, and why not have more drink options too! Maybe you could even "brew" your own beer...

Isn't this game rated "T"? I don't think promoting drug use is really anywhere in Anet's list of "THINGSWEHAVETODORIGHTNOWOMG." Sorry, all, but that's kinda pushing it.

If you get injured in real life, your health doesn't spring back to perfect within two minutes of the end of the situation you were injured in, either. And being dead lasts a lot longer than two minutes or until a monk happens along.
If you want to stay drunk throughout a mission, just make sure you bring enough ale with you.
Perhaps they should sell it in kegs.

ale keg ^_^
about the random emotes...
after drinking 4-6 ale your char starts random kneeling and sitting... also a "hick" is most likely to appear -- great money sink. i always have 5 ale with me in case i need a quick drunkeness.
i would love to see some other drinks so you can start mixing the effect you want....maybe sth like a ceremonial root so you can enjoy the effects a little longer. and of course squeezed scarab juice,
to prevent from complains about drug-promotion: just name it in a tyrian way and it will be fine. maguuma brainflusher, freshly squeezed scarab-juice.
one thing: dwarfen ale is way too "light" right now - normally a human beeing should try to hold his inner organs with the free hand while drinking a beer brewed by a dwarf.
petition for a real dwarfen brew that actually knocks you down and if you drink too many you cant move anymore.. sitting or even lying there like a rock
skills you want activate while beeing drunk should randomly switch... so the char starts casting sth else if possible... sth like that...
gotta get back to tyria now

Lol, Ale Kegs! Yeah, the effects of drinking should reflect those on the character.
