I personaly like the idea of having different playable races... but i think they should make up some new ones... for the sole purpose of playing as them, and somehow add them into the story line... Dwarves can be a playable race... since they exist in the land of guild wars...

I don't think they should use the cookie-cutter Tolkien races. That would be silly.

NEVER! NEVER!
Why do you feel the urge to strip a game of all it's originality? This topic has been done to death and the masses feel that it's time for an RPG without elves, dark elves, silver elves, orcs, and trolls. (Well, we do have trolls)
Are you mad, man?

A place like PVP, except on the matter of running instead of killing would be good. sometimes it gets boring after X amount of fights that you just hope something new might happen. I liked the kill X amount of people in 3mins, that was good. why not have capture the flag, and this run idea. Your team must out run the attackers. or it could be better thought out..

If they ever do something stupid (IMO it is very stupid to simply "look cool" and ruin the game/waste developers' time) I hope it is at least impressive and hard to do.
Such as Pay 50 skill points: your character graphic changes to Glint.
Or, collect all skills of that professon: your character graphic changes to that god's avatar.

IMO, it wouldn't really make sense to be anything other than a human. The story just wouldn't make sense. How many times do you think a dwarf is gonna come and help save the people of Ascalon. Or go become ascended in the desert. I'm not saying its a terrible idea. But in Guild War's case it wouldn't make sense. Apart from all the extra work it would take to add a second race.

ANet would have to contradict itself to add extra races. Like Fish said, the storyline just wouldn't make sense if you were a race other than human. They would have to make up content that could slightly parallel that of the human campaign (Dwarves would fight against the Stone Summit in a long campaign, and would eventually require ascension, something like that), but really, it has to be different. ANet's promise on expansions is to only have content made for level 20s. Unless you plan on making every other race start at 20, that just can't happen.

Elfs are nerds, and nobody likes nerds
Dwarves are just...dwarfs! you see people like to hang out with dwarfs in school?
Orcs just UGLY!!!!!
Goblins are like ants you can step on one of them all the time!
Human are the best! We got brains!
If you really don't like to play as human, so be it! Start wearing a custum to work everyday!

Humans are fine as the primary race. I don't want anything else, but maybe a few new professions would be nice, like a thief that can actually sneak past enemies. Only thing then is you will walk into town and see 9 million Thief/Monks.

lightblade, are u sure you have brains? anyway for the ppl bitching about elves: Dwarves are already implemented in the game, just like centaurs. Why shouldn't THOSE two be playable? I simply LOVE dwarves

I think what you are all overlooking is that GW as it is now, is only Chapter 1. They have already hinted at a Chapter 2, with more races, professions, skills, maps, storyline, etc. Asking for a new race now would be too much, especially considering they haven't even completed all the professions they have now. Mainly, they haven't finished some of the armor skins, and other things like that. To make a new race they would have to:
Make new professions
Makes hundreds of skills
Make armor skins
Make unique armor/weapons
Make unique quests
Edit NPCs to give quests to new race/professions
Add skills to vendors
With all of that to do for a races, they would have to have a big update, easily high mbs or possibly into the gb range, and at that size, it would be best to release it in an xpac(I think this is what they might do, I don't know for sure).

I've never heard of a silver elf?...
BUT, they could incorporate a race non-existent to tyria by having that race sail over from their continent!
I get good ideas

Its just like a golden elf and a platinum elf, but it's worth less on the slave market. They work just as hard tho.

Um.. I could be wrong, but isn't one of the main features of Guild Wars the EYE CANDY? I picked up the box off the shelf in the first place not because I had heard of it way back then.. but because it LOOKED cool. Then it turned out to BE cool, which was a bonus. But sometimes I just wanna stare at it. ^^;..
I'd love to be a centaur. That would rock. Especially if they could run fast. Or carry party members on their back.. I mean.. well, no, just kidding on that one. hehe

To not look like Clone number 4563476435 is worth quite a lot if you ask me.
Give races other stats and ppl just use a race to gain something, not caring about the looks.
Example:
Undead race are better Necromancer. You just see undead then as necromancer and no more humans.
Thats why it should be only graphically. No mess with balance and ppl that care about not-looking like everyone else gain something good.
And many ppl care abaout their char appearance.

I for one would love to be able to choose a different race even just for cosmetic purposes.
Dwarves, Forgotten and Centaur are the most likely choices because the current story has shown them to be intelegent and the Dwarves and Centaur were infact allied with the humans for some time before the wars. The forgotten are a different story, They ruled tyria before humans and might seek to repopulate. Plus, anyone whos talked to the NPCs near the port in Lion's Arch or pre ordered their game at Best Buy knows about Kantha, another continent that is not on our map. Kantha provides limitless possiblities for new story lines and races. Who is to say there aren't Orcs, Wolfen or, though I hope not, Elves in Kantha.
As a suggestion, I'd like to put forward a race.
As ascolon beggins to retake land from the Charr forces, something horrible is discovered. Half-Charr, They are the illegitimate children of ascolon women and primative Charr warriors. They range in appearance from very charr like to almost human, though, some Characterisics are always present : The horns, the tail and the claws. The poeple of Ascolon don't know what to make of their discovered siblings but the kingdom welcomes them as their ability to speak both the human language and the language of the Charr is essential to war time negotiations.

If Guild Wars wants to remain original and above the rest, (which it currently easily does) why not later on offer an expansion that allows some of the current races encountered to be played? The centaurs look very nice, as do the birdmen races as well.

I always thought that later expansions would include the following races: Krytans, Orrians, Deldrimor Dwarves, and Charr.
It just seemed natural for the game.
Though Krytans pretty much are just Ascalonians with dark skin...
