Moe Syszlak: tv ugly and ugly ugly
one thing that has always bothered me about fantasy is superheroes / save the world. Now I know that for an epic feel, save the world is pretty much necessary, but what about the heroes? I tried to make an ugly warrior, but all the faces available and body shapes available are too perfect. The closest I got was TV ugly, which is kind of... well... boring. I'd like to be able to truly uglify a character if I so choose. Why do warriors have to be buff? Why not a fat warrior, or a skinny warrior? Why do all mages have to be skinny? why not fat or buff? And why is every female character either cute or sexy accompanied by a stunning body? I want more variety, and I want options to be something other than a supermodel...

i think the warrior isn't buff, it's more like fat/muscle making him look like a fat short tree... narrow the hips and, it'd look better :P
the women looks luscious though :P

He looks fat in gladiator armor too, with his belly hanging out. It looks like he's been out drinking the ale with Stefan and Little Thom.

Being fat and being big aren't the same thing. The warriors run heavily towards big.
The monks are buff. Rangers look normal, while mesmers and eles look like stick-men to me.
And the females...well...what can I say? Only the female monk has boobs that are normal sized.

Yes, we're super-buff and sexy but also unwaveringly celibate. Sorry.

my point being, I want a variety of body sizes. I have a monk, but what if I don't want him to look like the Governator? In my experience, both with fiction and in real life, monks and men of the cloth are very very seldom muscular... in fact, they are most often quite the opposite. Anybody remember Friar Tuck of Robin Hood fame? He was a tub! I want a fat monk! I want an ugly (like children screaming ugly) female warrior, I want an old, wizened elementalist... or a crone female monk...

that's the one I chose... he doesn't look old and wizened... he looks... I don't know... battle worn maybe. He looks like a skinny warrior might. I took the oldest face I could find, which couldn't possibly be topping 40 if he were in real life. I want an elementalist to look like an alcoholic does at 60 or 70.

a 60 year old alcoholic? Dude, I'm all for realisim in life, but I don't want to have the urge to puke every time I see my character's face.

nah, I'm just talking bedraggled, gray and wrinkly, stooped... this is what i think of when I think of an elementalist... what I have now is a stern looking, sparsely wrinkled, Russian gymnast.

?
There is no "normal".
Besides, the female ranger is quite slim and has very typical, umm...., attributes for a slim build.
I too wouldn't mind a veriety of choices. One of my favorite role-playing characters ever was Donwulf the pubmaster, a character I made who was a retired mercenary who -gasp- ran a pub. 46 yrs old, balding, a little overweight - the retired football player build. Why not have the option - real people can be heroes too. When Ascalon is invaded, guys like Donwulf dig their old armour out of the closet, sharpen their swords and march out there - but the only ones we meet are Stefan and Thom

I don't picture that image at all when I think of an elementalist. I think of a character truly in touch with Mother Gaea, and that character image is always female. Women traditionally are far more intuitive and attuned to nature than men are. To me, male mages are more deeply involved with the darker arts. (Necro?)

Good old Martha Stewart!
So does that mean you wouldn't having Martha Stewart weld a electric mixer and some outdoor furniture from Kmart?
