Persistent chat modes please!
This is a simple, yet annoying pet peeve of mine...
I rarely talk or listen to the "local" chat or "trade" channels (unless I am shopping for something) because of the layers upon layers of spam making normal communication impossible.
That's right ANet, absolutely impossible.
Therefore, I leave them OFF, using guildchat or teamchat exclusively. I suspect many others here do something similar?
Now my peeve:
Every time I zone, use the map, or spin 3 times in a circle, it defaults to "local" chat. Because it is "automagical" I never notice until I've typically typed out some response or question to someone.
Because I am old school, I don't use abbreviations much at all, so having to stop, Shift+appropriate keystroke to get into guild or team is a pain in the posterior!
Also, it is a gaming constant that no one ever asks you a question while you are standing around doing nothing, nay, it is the moment of greatest peril as your party is about to perish when you receive the "Why haven't you answered my question?" post.
To do such spells certain demise, but we must keep up at least a pretense of civility! (Until we meet in the arenas later on anyway...)
Could CHAT be made possible to be set in a mode, and keep it persistent until changed by the user again?
That would be quite loverly, thank you.

I don't see what harm it does, but I doubt it is on the top of the devs list. Although, it wouldn't take long to implement.
I personally have noticed chat modes are somewhat persistent. It always seems that whenever I finish something with my team (quest or mission), and I type in "Good job" or whatever afterwards in the next town or outpost, it defaults back to teamchat (where I had it during the mission).

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!
Ahem, sorry. I hate that. I always have it in guild or team chat and every time I go to a different zone I have to switch it back. It's annoying and drives me batty.

Yes this is very, very annoying. It doesn't make much sense in its current state. I hope they modify it.

As far as I know, team chat is persistent while guild chat is not. And yes, it is quite annoying.

I think guild chat is the way it is because when you zone, you are temporarily "not in a guild". You can see this when you watch people zone in, for a brief moment, their names lack a guild tag.
Though, it doesn't really make much sense. You can still talk in the other chat modes, even if there's no one to chat with. All other chat modes *are* persistant.
