Talking Hello, just writting in about microphone

Hello, I believe, even though the microphone takes up memory space, that the microphones should be part of the game, I think it would add to the atmosphere as a sophisticated gaming enviroment and that people would really be more drawn towards the game if there was microphone usage for eveyone, perhaps you could just charge for the physical microphone like you guys were planning on doing, also, there perhaps should be a system to conserve bandwith where you only people that can hear you are your group and people you are trading with. Also, I feel that any microphone system should come with a mute and perhaps even volume for people menu. Sorry, about the inconvenince, I'm trying to recruit for my guild, so these factors would really help, mostly the no extra fee for mics, thank you. Jimi O The Dead.

i think that the game currently works very well with 3rd party apps. that way, you have more control over the people you are chatting with, ie your guild, and you choose whether or not you want to devote bandwith to voice chat. i do not see a need with integrating this feature into the game. you can use those 3rd party apps for free for the most part and adding voice chat to the game would serve nothing but increase bandwith requirements on everyone.

Default Ya I just ment that it would be best if microphone chat was free in game

I felt it would be best to have free microphone chat in game because people would want to buy the game more in my opinon but I hope it all works out.

I think this game should support voice over IP in the next major update. It's a hell of a lot easier talking then just typing, because now I find myself typing more than I'm supposed to (when I need help, a buff, etc.). If they add in some features (mute user, private chat to another person, etc.) I'm sure alot of people would switch over to VOIP.

TS is free people VOIP is already here without GW doing anything. You can get a free server channel if you want its easy. The good thing is most of the really annoying people don't have mics so we don't have to here them. Even with VOIP in game I would prolly still use TS as it gives me a lot more control over who I have to put up with.

I think in-game voice chat would be great, but NOT in outposts/towns, only in guild/group chat, and maybe whispers. Although guilds can just use TeamSpeak, groups can't easily join a TS server together. It's hard to run, fight, and type at the same time and actually be doing the running/fighting correctly (e.g. right direction, right enemy, hell, right skills) and would be much easier to just be able to hold down a button or have voice-activated chat.

Coming from Tribes 2 where they had in game voice communication.... the first thing any reasonable player did was disable it. Nothing worse then some lamer getting on a server with you and proceeding to waste bandwidth saying dumb, dumb, dumb stuff.

Think map drawing and point spamming is bad? Think about when the person on the other end can now say whatever they want...

Yup, nice thought, too bad the general community would abuse the heck out of it.

I agree with bobrath...

On top of what he stated, i just can't stand the voices of 13 year old players screaming all over in panic when something goes wrong. It is just these high pitched voices torturing your ear. Ugh. I've had enough of it in Natural Selection. If it is no 13 year old killer voice, it's some funny guy spamming the theme melody of Zelda all the time... or some VERY hot tempered guy flaming and bitching around.

The first action i'd do if VOIP would be part of Guildwars... i'd deactivate it. Even if that would mean to deactivate all sounds as well. And i am most probably not the only person doing this.

And, lastly... voice communication is consuming a real hell load of bandwith. It was do-able in Tribes or Natural Selection as the highest Playercount was up to 64 (wasn't it?) and every server... well, it was a server put up just to host this game. Now if it comes to Guildwars, the Techs over there are not setting up a new server for each instance you create. Let's say they host 200 instances on a single server at the same time, coordinated by their lots of masterservers. This server most probably will run at a healthy 80-90 % usage so it can catch up with some spikes now and then. Now just imagine Voice COmmunication on top. It would have to be compressed and sent out to every player out there.

Let's just take the 200 instances and say it is a fair balanced of people in the tutorial (2 Players Max) and People in the Endgame (8 Players). So we have an average of 5 Players an instance. 5 * 200 instances... each consuming cpu usage AND loads of Bandwith. Ugh.

I heard TS is a bandwidth hog. VOIP should only be activated when you are doing quests/missions so it's easier to mute a user (if they implement that). I really hope NCSoft thinks about this.

If they did decide to implement this idea... then PLEASE make sure they also implement a feature which lets me just prevent me from hearing any of it (ie don't even send the packets my way).

My guild uses ventrillo and I think its a great asset to us. However, that's only because each and every person on it is a known person. They can't get away with abusing the system.
