skill sprites in gw
After playing guild wars since the second BWE, I have only only major complaint. The skill sprites. Way to often I will cast fireball or pheonix with my ele and it will look pitifully weak, becuase all that happens is the ball of fire will fly out and hit the oppenent, nothing special. Personally, i would like to see some more work put into skill/spell gfx, maybe have the fireball create an explosion, or have firestorm actually do sumthing other than just fall. im pretty sure the Game Engine can handle this stuff. So tell me wat u guys think? are the skills good? or do they need to be expanded upon?

I don't really like the skill sprites either, as some of the skills don't even show anything (enervating charge for example).

yeah ... i can see improving them with the evolution of the game ... there have been a few posts about that ... including the traps- no one has a clue of the range 3 seconds after they cast it lol ...

i agree..when i read the description of skills like phoenix i really thought that a "phoenix" would spawn and fly into enemies but i was dissapointed
what is also dissapointing is meteor....it sounds great does great damage...but it looks like a rock dropped from 1000 metres from above..
the gfx are really great in this game really impressive...i just wished the spirites could be changed
thanks =)

Hopefully something like this will be in the first expansion. One things I loved most about Diablo 2 was the atmosphere and beauty of the game and skills.
Now, Guild Wars definitely win hands down when it comes to the scenery. On the other hand, the skills, although pretty, lack that extra umph. D2 had extravagant and very noticable skills, while GW seems more about keeping them simple and, for the most part, easy to ignore. I'd definitely like to see upgraded sprites in the next expansion.

Be careful what you wish for. Too much flashbang and you could be listening to your char die while you wait for your vision to clear.
Have you noticed that the glare from searing heat, if you're at the right (or wrong...) angle... you can't see through it and need to move.
Then again... that could add to the strategy as well...

This definitely the best concept that I have read in this form. I too remember the graphics and animations in D2 and they were amazing for the time and still seem cool even now. The spell and skill effects are lacking and fixing that would make a world of a difference, IMHO.
And MSecorsky is on to something with the strategy, maybe something like the dwarven ale effect-causing skill/condition.

Yes but there are other skills that create cool efects, like when you fire inigte arrows+dual shot into a bunch of enemies...here's a lot of sparling involved in the explosion, and it doesnt really cover you sigth, maybe only the smoke, but its a cool battle effect. So many skills as the one's mentioned above simply doesnt have any kind of fx animation, wich is a turn down in battle, you cast you super expensive spell, you want to at least notice you did damage.¬¬

but you got to remember if they add all that extra stuff when you cast skills the lag during a big fight will skyrocket. like my game runs fine but when i drank a dwarven ale omg everything was jumping i was lagging extreamly bad

We all like cool graphics, and I definately think they could spice up spell effects in GW. I just hope they dont do it so much you need a new video card, or worse a new comp to run it anymore. Anyone else play Everquest.....I started EQ on a 400mhz crap machine with cheap video card and 128 megs of ram, as the years passed, I upgraded to a 1.4 gig machine, with a video card about 4x better and high speed internet and I could barely even play.
So, while I would like the upgrade to graphics, I know alot of people wouldnt be able to handle it...you know all those people that zone in, literally, 3 mintues after you.

They just need more graphics options with new effects. If your box isn't the best, then turn off advanced effects or whatever they want to call it.
