Some sort of "Epic" Weapon
Ok, anyone who has played almost any other MMO knows about the "Epic" or super weapons that requice a lot of quests and time spent to aquire these weapons and they have unique graphics to themselves. Most of the time, when they First come out they are the "best" interms of overall. I feel that Just like how armor(15k and such) signifies a person, and shows what they have achieved, so should a weapon.
-Personally I hate seeing a level 1 Warrior with a Max Fellblade that matches mine. Honnestly, It makes what I have feel less powerful and less meaningful.
-I feel that they should impliment long drawn out quest lines for "special" weapons that are only available to those who have completed Chapter1 and want something for there effort.
-I would think that there would need to be (again using my example of a warrior) 3 different "special weapons" of which you could quest 1. This weapon choosing sword for example would be "amazing/godly" for a sword user giving bonuses and such. Another nice thing would be still able to add 2 upgrades to the weapon.
Anyone else like this idea at all?(And when i say quest, i dont mean collector, unless the items needed are what the quests would give)
*The Weapons should be Customized to the quester from the second he/she gets it to eliminate people selling them*

If you can quest for it, then everyone will have one by the end of the week...
If it becomes a random drop, then it'll get sold on ebay for $20,000 and you'll probably never see it in your lifetime.

obviously Everblue missed the part about "auto-customizing" to prevent selling.
I like the idea, as long as the above stated clause is programmed in as well otherwise you would be back in the same boat your started in.

Personally, I wish all quest items were customized for you. I'd stop everyone from selling them. Seriously, when I say WTB Longbow of Fortitude, I do NOT mean your quest item.
Sounds cool, but only if the weapon was customized for you.

OP ~ This is a really bad idea.
I'm all for custom or rare "looking" items, but more "power" will unbalance what is already a well balanced game.

When i say more powerful, i dont mean out of proportion, i mean just something that takes ALOT of TIME to get, and is just something that your chosen class would get a great benefit from.
*Side note, Even if it has the Same stats as a regular 15-22 sword, or 6-28 axe or 15-28 bow or whatever u use, if it just looked awseome in terms of status like 15k armor does, then i think that would be cool too!

This game is not like all other MMO's. The game has been aimed at a wider audience and that audience includes casual players. For this reason Guild Wars is based on Skills and not items. With an item based system, it is the players who play for the longest who are have the power, since they are usually in possesion of UBER items. A casual player in such an environment would be at a distinct disadvantage. In using a skill based system a casual player is not penalised for the time they have spent in game i.e. time spent in game makes little to no difference. It is only their ability to utilise the skills which matters. A superweapon would thus unbalance the game. Currently weapons do not inflict huge volumes of damage. In this way it is possible for a group with average items to beat a group with high level items. It is the utilisation of the skills that matter. Thus I believe an elite weapon which deals huge damage would be detremental to gameplay.
However I do believe that a quest similar to UW or FoW, where you can craft a weapon purely for visuals would be a good idea. It would give those currently griping about farm nerfing something to do!

If by benefit you mean it does 1 more point of damage, adds one additional enhancement, whatever, its still a BAD IDEA.
Think about this, who actually puts in honest effort to do anything in GW anymore? (Yeah yeah here comes the flames..bring it)
The general excuse is:
"I've already done it once before, so I shouldn't have to."
"If I was meant to expend effort, why not buy it instead? Online platinum is cheap."
"I don't wanna."
"I'll farm this and make a fortune -- greed rules!"
That sums up 99% of the server nicely.

I agree with Talesin. Adding a "super weapon" would throw this game way off kilter. However, if this "super weapon" was guaranteed to be of the 15% over 50% variety and have a unique look and be customized to your character like armor and require a lengthy quest/series of quests to obtain I would be all for it.

If all your after is customizing a weapon to be your unique looking weapon, then lets just tweak the weapons merchant in towns, instead have a blacksmith where you can go to to customize the hilt, blade, pommel etc. Provided you have the raw materials and cash. The "blacksmith" would have hundreds of each weapon components in multiple designs, you pick and choose how you want it to come together.

If it can't be used in any sort of PvP area, then I've no problems with it being slightly better than a normal weapon.
Besides, there are weapons out there with +% damage always with no drawbacks back when they were working out the bugs. How is it fair that those people have those items and there is no hope of anyone every acquiring one now?
As far as a special graphic, that would be great. Or if I simply got to choose from a variety of graphics already in the game I would be fine with that as well.
Edit: And I like Claymore's idea. Choosing different graphics for the pommel, hilt and blade. A similar system was used in Neverwinter Nights and I loved the way my customized swords looked.

A blacksmith would be cool, but maybe have a Special set of hilts blades and suck for those who WISH to quest items to make the weapon have even more value to themselves would be cool, or just a quest that unlocked more and more parts with a final quest that unlocked a special set.
You have to have something for those people who feel that just playin through the game isnt enough, they want to do more, and more beyond the standard quests/missions and this might prove to be useful.

Or you take a weapon to a blacksmith to customise its appearance, but one within a mission. The materials for this crafting process should be rare.

The If you really want to take it a step further, an resident spellcaster in spcieifed areas for offer to put conditions on the weapons, such as they're are on colored drops already ingame. But limit it to only 2 of the types of condition possible, then the weapons would not be any better or worse then a good drop. the conditions also have to have their pluses and negatives, a double edged sword, (haha), to keep the balance of the game. The negative aspect of following this course? the upgrade components do not work on the customized weapons, thus you have 2 paths to follow for weapons choise and the future of your char.
Edit: I just realized, either I can't type or my spelling is horrid!

I think weapon crafters are really underused by this game, they sould act like the armor crafters and craft the weapons and upgrades we are looking for.

You could unlock different Hilts and Blades like you do runes and upgrade components. When it's unlocked it is available to be crafted at the Blacksmith. Special quests could unlock the rare hilts and blades or hafts or bows, etc...

There are many different ways this concept could be implimented, the point being it seems that players want to have some way of uniquly customizing their chars, other than dye. I hope Anet is reading this it could be a huge cosmetic lift for many of the experienced players and renew some intrest in the game.

Well this is a online game and people hate seeing a clone running around, people always want customization options.
