How to nerf farming and keep everyone happy
Ok, I was doing some thinking the other day about the current economy and farming (in Guild Wars).
Now, why is the economy so screwed up? I think it's because there are people who have tons of money and people that have very little money.
Why do these people have little money? Because drops were nerfed because of overfarming. Now, these people CAN'T get money because there just aren't any good drops. What's the solution? Give us good drops! But by increasing the drop rate, it will lead to farming again. So I figured, "Why can't there be a way to get good items, without getting them from monsters?" Here's my idea:
I say we do a little more with the whole "favor" thing. Leave the Fissure of Woe and Underworld open for everyone, all the time. This will increase the amount of time people spend there, thus making Storm Bows, Ectoplasm, etc. more common, in effect lowering the prices, meaning more people can afford them, and hopefully balancing things out a little more. Now, I think there should be a city (perhaps on one of the small unused islands) that's only open when your country has the Favor of the Gods. This city could be like all other major cities, except it has more stuff to do. Such as "casinos", arenas with monetary/item rewards, and other ways to get money or items. Just a lot of different and fun ways to get good stuff without having to farm all day. Since this city would only be open when we have the Favor, it would keep things more under control, but not overly difficult and time consuming to get good stuff. And plus, it would add more variety and more stuff to do so we're not all trying our best to farm just to get that last piece of 15k armor.

I think the better idea would be to drop Items according to level. At Level 20 nerf the drops for any pre forge areas. After that make it so that the drops are more numerous when playing with 7 other human players. If people want to farm make them do it together.
Personally I do runs of pedition rock for capping all the time and I find myself coming back with over 2k in gold and item drops.

No, because when they get up to 1k, if they ever do, they run straight for the dye trader to "look cooler than x,y and z players". Or they purchase materials rather than get them from dead mobs, and then are broke, running around in all-chat screaming at the top of their lungs:
"Can someone loan me 400 gold? I need PANTS!"
Of course, this was only a reality in Guild Wars, for me, until I learned to turn off all-chat, and not spend my gold unless it was an upgrade mandate.
Thank you, please drive through.

Well Gee Colonel DICKHEAD, you sure are in a snobby mood tonight..
Back to the topic. I beleive the creator of this topic has a great suggestion, and it should be forwarded to Arena Net, though needs more detail. The only problem i see with a Casino style area, is children. Many adults dont want their children getting hooked on gambling..Especially off of video games. Although im sure there could be an email sent out to all accounts (or parents of children) asking for some type of acknowledgement that they know and approve of it.. This can be done by asking for a credit card (valid) number, that way either only adults could go in the area, or only children whos parents approved could enter. Of course, this should only have to be done once per account. And on accounts that are being created, it could ask for the credit card number during registration.

I believe this game is rated 15 up, so if kids do get hooked on gambling, blame the parents!

Oh of course, sorry. I'll be sure to never post a suggestion again if this is the type of response I get.

Well, the casino was just a thought as to one of the many things you could do in this city. Maybe instead you could gain money just by winning in the arena.

I support this idea but i think we still need UW/fissure to be open only when we have favour. Not favor because i'm British, lol.

the "nerfing" is because some morons are using Bots to farm. The
only clear solution to it was to reduce the drops when people
constently farmed the same area.
If you wish better loot,
1. play in a group - In a group the game doesent reduce the drops
2. When solo farming - dont just stay in the same area, change
where you farm often. This will keep good drops coming. ( trust me
on that, I still solo often with my warrior and still get lots of
purple and gold drops. But I never farm in the same place twice in a day).

I agree with master oria, I still solo area's and I still get purple/rare items to drop it's just not as much as it was now instead of getting good drops every single time I went I now get good drops every other time I solo the area. So the drop rates are not as bad as people seem to belive they are, there just not as numerous as it was before.

Personally I believe that it is impossible to nerf all drops and keep farmers happy at the same time. However, your suggestion of all regions having favour of the Gods does somewhat seem a good idea. I belive that it would be beneficial to have all regions with favour because with Korea and America dominating Hall of Heroes it is extremely rare that we Europeans can enter Underworld of the Fissure of Woe. However, the downside to this is the whole point of Hall of Heroes itself, there would be no point for its being, there would be no need for it. Despite me and fellow Brits complaining about the lack of times Europe had favour I believe that all regions having favour is a bad thing. It would eliminate the competition between Europe, America and Korea. Why would there be any motive to battle in HoH. It simply wouldn't be needed. HoH is there for a reason and I think that it is to test people as gamers and it would also provide competition between regions and guilds alike.

haha...hahah..HAHAHA...oh, that's a good one. You know who you're talking to up there right?
Anyway, a relatively good idea but I still don't think this is the way to go about it. I just think say they should, increase the drop rates, but add more gold sinks. That way people will have more money, sure, but as SOT pointed out, they'll just blow it unless they're smart. We do need some way to make more money though, because when droknar runners can out-buy anyone else, there's a problem.

No farming is good and exciting. I sell things really cheap! I am NOT greedy!~
Heck I give away stuff sometimes that I could probably sell for like a couple plat... I dunno. Too bad .. it's the bots and the greedy people who want their 15k armor I guess.
The whole game isn't about farming though. If I could make another character I definitely would be doing that instead

This is absolutely correct. And the reason these people have shitloads of money is that they buy it from bot farmers. They pay the $10-15 and get like 100-500k gold, which is more than enough to buy everything you need throughout the game. I see it all the time. Some nitwit with money to burn asking the stupidest questions and paying 2-3x market value for anything and everything.
They dont need to nerf farming. They need to deal with the bots and farming sweatshops over in China/India.

true, they need a better system in the game to stop Bots all together. There is nothing worst then some kid coming in the game with their 500K from Ebay and trowing Off the Economy in the game.
