Petition to let me attack with my fists
Is there any reason you *must* use a weapon to smack things around? My monk knows kung fu. He should be able to Bruce Lee people instead of flinging silly little glowballs out of a fairy wand.

They aren't silly little glowballs they are unstable orbs of raw energy created from potents magics fired from enchanted weapons that will rend your flesh!!!
The idea of a fist fighter beating on an armor plated warrior makes me smile.... 6ft burly warrior looms tall while *dink, dink, dink din-din-dink* little monk chips away at his armor before aforementioned warrior swings his sword. No more kung-fu.
Tongue firmly in cheek.
Seriously: I think a kung-fu style of fighting would be hard pressed to fit into this kindof world. A rogue / assassin type maybe.

Yes that is true, I quite like the /excited emote for them too, although depending on your armor (or lack of) it can be indecent enough to make an elementalist blush.
Anyway back on topic, are you talking about just letting people fight with hands, or the creation of a new class?

Just let me hit with my hands I don't care if I do 2 damage, but it would be fun. Can you imagine a Me/W doing 34 damage per hit by his fists with IW?

I'd like to be able to punch things
let's say with a damage of 0-1
sometimes you just know you are going to die
in these cases I'd like to be able to go hit the bad guys with my fists

Yeah, that too. Can we replace the mesmer masks with something a little more... manly? I mean really, you're going out there to beat the crap out of evil monsters and save the world, not attending a costume ball... and while you're at it, ditch the glitter.

How about the "scowling angry look mask"? Mesmers look entirely too cheerful.

Sure, let the characters beat away on things with their fists. However, should they make contact with something hard or rock/steel, they should take take damage (even more damage than they cause to their target). It'd be funny. "I keep hitting him, but I broke my hands on his platemail!"

Im gonna agree with this. When I got my Mesmer one of those slim masks (gives you +1 on fast casting), I thought it was a side-view of it, so I got it. But, it was a front view so now my Mesmer has half a mask.
Oh yea, Mesmer's wear hose (like pantyhose)

i think kung fu (or jeet kun do :P) would fit perfectly in the smiter style. you know, throwing back damage...
(well maybe thats NOT exactly what those styles actually do )
in fact, first thing i tried with my monk was to unequip his weapon and try to go melee. but he would just stand there, gwen jumping happily around.
i see only one problem: no more safety net for peace and harmony :P

I think they should be able to go kung-fu on thier enemies too, is there any reason EVERY SINGLE caster class has to have a bloody wand or staff? I think it would be cool to have monks fight barehanded, perhaps base that damage on Smiting Prayers?

It'd be fun to think of 'chop socky' monks roaming the countryside...but not very practicle.
A lot of people, who opt for a monk primary,do so for the 'hands off' healing/protecting abilities that come with the profession - making a monk a 'hands on' (literally) fighter would mean having to include new skills and armour in order to carry off the new persona - not to mention completely altering the balance of the game.
And what then of people who take monk as a secondary?
Burly warriors, dressed up to the nines in heavy duty armour, prancing round like a pyjama clad Bruce Lee?...can't see it myself.

I have an Illusionary Warrior build for my mesmer and it would be great to deal chaos damage with my fists
btw, look at smiting monks. All good smiting monks get right up there in the pack of meat sheilds taking hits left a right to dish out 100s of damage. Monks are already in the heat of battle, yet no one realizes it. The same with the Illusionary Warrior, a Mesmer Melee build.

Hey, don't knock wierd builds, I won the HoH with a PUG and using a Melee Mesmer, Me/W, and I DIDNT use IW, I carried a big ass scarry hammer and stomped.
I want this in so bad. Why would it be bad for a warrior to hit stuff with his fists? Maybe make an armor weight req, so you'd have to be wearing a Gladiator's armor or something... light... to Bruce Lee fight.
