@Samorn: You clearly do not understand basic economics. Reducing the number and quality of the drops INCREASES the cost of items. (ie: causes inflation) It's basic supply and demand.
They have really cool uber-items and awesome armor, but no way to afford these items. You can't farm a location anymore and expect to get ANYTHING dropped (no gold, no items, nada)
I like the GW world, but they have a vendetta against PvE and making money.

I can think of several reasons Anet is nerfing farm spots and here they are:
1. To prevent inflation on item sales. This happened in Everquest Online Adventures (PS2). When I left low level quest armor was going for 10k each and many many items were in the 10millions. Now where does that leave newbs?
|
This IS causing inflation on item sales. Now since nobody can find a max damage stormbox with good mods, the ones that weren't yet sold have been auctioned off at amazingly high prices. It's causing the farmers who stocked up on items beforehand to become richer, while leaving us in the dust because we will never be able to obtain the cash to keep up.
Quote:
2. To prevent people from a massing stock piles of gold and selling it for real cash on certain MMORPG selling sites (Won't mention).
|
Again, what ANet is doing is counter-productive. The only thing that is changing with "MMORPG selling sites" is that the demand is increasing because of the nerfs, causing many players to buy off these sites. Increased demand causes increasing prices, and these increasing prices will cause heavy botters to farm more AND they will make even more money then before.
Quote:
3. To make getting that 15k armor a little bit harder. Just about every level 20 you see these days has their 15k armor and that makes the all mighty end game armor seem a little less "all mighty". Anet might be trying to make it so that if you have the 15k armor then you really are "Hardcore" or have devouted the time to getting the 15k stuff.
|
Hmm, lets see exactly how much that "little bit harder" really looks like.
15 per piece x 5 pieces = 75k
~120 ectoplasm or whatever at 10k each(below reg price, BTW) = 1200k
Total cost = 1,275,000 gold
Quote:
Also one last thing, stop crying that you can't make 10k an hour I can only make 1k an hour and thats if I'm lucky.
|
Wahoo, at 1k an hour, you can get your 15k armour in approxiametly 1,275 hours of nonstop farming. That means you only have to farm for a little over 53 straight days. Yippee!
Quote:
So in conclusion from what I see and have experienced in past MMORPGs what Anet is doing isn't bad for the game.
|
Exactly. The rich getting richer, and the poor staying poor is exactly how the game should stay.

OK, so the drops are now crap (Temporarily maybe? Don't know)
Can you please remove the enchant breakers from the scarabs and golems?
(How the hell can a golem remove 4 enchantments in the blink of an eye without casting a spell? That's ******* ********!)
How about getting rid of the casters that you placed at riverside?
If we can't have the good drops from farming, at least make farming possible again to restore SOME fun.
No drops, no enchantments, no farming, no fun.
Great plans in store for PvE i remember from a past interview....
Yeah, a great big nerf bat!

I have salvaged/sold every scrap, and I now am the proud owner of a bank account totalling... are you ready?... 11K and change. Yep. That's it. There go my dreams of owning an axe better than 5-12 any time in the near future!
I've never seen a gold drop, and the purple drops I've seen were worth nothing beyond salvage either. I have a lousy weapon, no money to buy a better one, and apparently no chance to find a better one until I've finished the game and can work the "high level" areas? Which means that maybe my second character will have a decent weapon? Bah. If things don't start looking up, there won't be a second character. I'm enjoying the game so far, but as the mobs become stronger and stronger and my character doesn't, I envision hitting a plateau where frustration overcomes fun. That would be a shame.
|
I sympathize with you.. people who bought the game and have leveled up slower missed out on all of the spots people who played beta, or started out with a farming build and play 40+ hours a week farmed to hell in the beginning. I think my first gold drop wasn't until around the lions arch area, so you will start to see them more if you keep playing. Eventually, you will find something worth selling or keeping, like a max damage weapon with +life/dmg or some useful mods. If you don't feel that weapon is all that godly or you can't use it, just sell it. Patience is key. If you wait for the right offer, someone will usually pay 2-5x+ what most people quote you for it. Since you are a W/Mo you should be able to setup to farm somewhere or rush people to Droknar's for good money. I believe warriors are recommended to update their armor more aften as they go through the game, so that may be why the difficulty seems frustrating for you now. Depending on what crafting materials you have/need, you do have 11k so you could always get a rush to Droks and make at least chest and leggings of the 1.5k armor. Or, you could spend some cash for a basic max damage axe with lower req and some decent mods. Don't think of getting a rush to Droks as skipping ahead, it is just branching off from beacons perch to go shopping.
My first char is a Me/E, horrible at farming.. with very targetted setups I could farm sand drakes or hydras at max 2/3 per pack. By working my way through the game to the ring of fire, I was able to save enough to buy my 1.5k armor as well as save money to rush my new Mo/R to Droks for hers. There seems to be places that drop stuff fairly well still, but it is no fun to deal with henchs or a pug for hours on end and only find worthless junk. I have thought up some creative ways to make money, not involving solo farming or scamming/rushing..however, I don't even know if it is worth the effort to me. I don't like the fact that the only things that are really hard to get, besides unlocking, are the 1 mill+ fissure armor and black dye. I really don't care about +30 health sword hilts(can use faction anyhow), I like to improve my characters appearance^^. Sadly, I have never found or had a black dye. Just to buy silver is expensive enough. I hope that things will be added soon that reduce the pressure on the price of black dye and those ecto and obsidian shards.
Is it really integral to the game to have one black dye be worth 800 times as much as a yellow one? In reality, black dye would be the absolute cheapest to make. Let us recover "ashes" from mobs and craft black dyes from some out of the way crafter or something at least.
When I first discovered guild wars and it was in beta, for some reason I thought it sucked. Then closer to release, the whole "skill over time spent" thing sounded so nice and I thought I would give it a try. I truly appreciate Anet's constant updates and attention to the community. I feel that their type of attitude is necessary for a truly great company. Still, I really question whether I would buy an expansion. I know there are a lot of different types of players and it is hard to keep them all happy. Basically, I don't want to have to make a specific type of character and then spend hours looking for a less nerfed spot weekly. I am going to make my 3rd char soon, and I can't decide between W/N or N/W. I think I would prefer N/W, but I feel I might need to make warrior primary so I later change to /Mo and be a runner or hunter. I could find hunting to be enjoyable, but it sounds so daunting with spots being nerfed constantly...

Dianna, I understand how you feel. I give decent stuff to new players all the time, message me. I think many of the more well-off players should do so as well.

Only thing I can think of it this, A.Net intention was to make 15k armor truely rare and cause it so the bots end up with the gold to "hopefully" drive down the price of everthing, or in place of a future trade shop, auction house, or grand plan. I can also see a surge in gold buying (I refrain from this myself but others won't).
For all the new players or the ones that never did farming (me) seeing everyone with 15k armor where it may be a long time down the road is fustration (I will get over it).
Either way, please talk about it give your reason's behind it.

I went through this entire game up to the desert just doing the missions and quests like normal and got to lvl 18, yet never saw my total gold higher than 7k at one time. I made more than 7k of course, as thoughout that month I did spend approx 5k on a good staff and some weapon upgrades, and held onto my salvage materials to sell and use for armor upgrades, which I purchased at each major AL increase. Yet my total gold pool never exceeded 7k, and usually hovered between 1k and 3k on a good day.
When I got to Ventari's Refuge, I was so frustrated that after getting a whole new set of armor yet again, a second set of silver dye and yet a third major vigor rune (they never salvage for me), that I was completely broke with less than 50g. I'd never seen a gold drop of anything, and only a few purples along the way. Meanwhile I'm reading these trade messages with "+24 Fortitude Wrapping - 15k cheap!"' and the like... and I'd read how some people make like 10k or more in a single day or hour.
So I got fed up with it, searched the forums and found the DC run mentioned, and did it for an entire evening, and made almost 15k in chest gold and gold/purple drops that I sold at a fair price. Then I paid someone to run me to Droknar's so I could get the armor upgrade hoop done with, and then went back to where I was beforehand. Not only was it the only way I was able to get even close to the kind of gold I keep hearing about (reached over 22k as my highest total at one point), but it was a lot of fun.
A week or so later I discovered that I really needed to get either a Superior Vigor rune or a high +Health staff wrapping because I just didn't have enough health as I sacrifice too much, yet these are all over 30k each, if you're lucky! So I went to DC to do the run for a bit and what did I find? Barbed Traps at just about every turn, no good gold or purple drops, less gold per chest drop and a bunch of low level stuff that isnt' even worth salvaging. What was once a 5 min run to get some gold had turned into a 20 minute run with multiple deaths and very little to show for it.
So I'd decided to play the Materials market instead, buying low and selling high. I'd login at different times and spend almost all of my gold on materials and started salvaging everything I came across during normal gameplay instead of selling it to the merchant and other players. Well... I guess I just started doing this at the wrong time, because I can't seem to turn a profit on any of it. This last week it seemed like the sell prices were always really low on everything, and then the patch...
I actually thought last night how this game is starting to totally suck.

I'm happy to see the size this petition has grown to in such a short amount of time, keep it coming peoples, this is what we need to do because there's nothing else available. I sent in a message to Anet's support about a few things yesterday, I've still no response today. Hopefully I'll get it soon enough, I personally feel I have the right to know whether farming gold laying around will get my friggin' account banned. If anything of the sort happens you can bet I'm going to be one pissed off pie (and my wrath is unbearable ). They had things going good in game, there were gold sinks, people could buy and people could sell, I still had to work quite a while to get my 60k armor now I can't come close to that, and I sure as hell can't EVER hope to TOUCH the fissure armor with these prices. I used to have enough money at one point to buy it, but then the prices increased, and nearly doubled. So now I've not a hope in hell.
I smirk at anyone who says we're "blind" at that it didn't say anything in the latest patch.
You're DAMN right it didn't say anything in the latest patch, but then do you mind telling me why those monsters who used to drop loot from each mob in Gates of Kryta now drop maybe 4 items out of 20 mobs? It's because sometime, I don't know when, they went and swung their friggin' nerf bat at it. And I don't even recall hearing about half the stuff they've gone and chagned, they just do it and then I go find out about it when I realize my work isn't paying off anymore.
Over the past 3 days I've managed to get 5k. If I were to create a new character, I'd have to grind just to get the 1.5k droknars armor. Them "nerfing" these spots isn't doing anything but screwing over the people and helping the bots. Now gold is worth more, prices are higher because demand is higher because they nerfed everything, and now the bots, who can spend however much time they want, can go and get as much gold as they want. It'll just take longer. And then they can make more money off of it, be more wealthy in-game, and keep buying what they need no matter what the price. It's inflating the prices right now. Ecto for 13k?! Black dye sold off for 1g? What the hell is this about? So...we're supposed to use the traders to refill their supplies...but we'll only get 3g if we give 3 black dyes to the trader? Yeah, I don't think so. And then the price rises because of "demand", which doesn't make a lick of sense and is only hurting the game further.
Anyone who says this game is "PvP focused" can put a sock in it, I've heard no "word" from Anet about this, and in one of their notices they said WE of PvE were next in line, instead they drop us a long hard nerf. PvP in this game is so small, repetitive, and pointless, that it either needs A LOT of work or they need to focus on something they've already got going, PvE.
Basically they can fix the game or lose a good many members is what I'm seeing. I know I won't be sticking around if everything I liked about the game keeps getting taken away, I'm going to assume there's a fair amount out there with the same mind set. "We want to reduce the grind" Good job, Anet. Now we've got to grind just to buy armor to progress in the storyline, or get a decent weapon upgrade.
Keep signing this thing, I've nothing left to do but try something like this.

Theres still a place you can get 200g in about a 1:30 seconds , if you have sprint and remove hex, thats about 1k every 8 - 9 mins , 6 -7k an hour, and you get max damage and blue stuff guaranteed, nothing gold though and puple is rare..............
it's not like it's been totally nerfed though, just toned down,

Ah so people are farming GOLD in the lower level areas. That's how the nerf is hapening? Have they nerfed the item drops too? I think anet should keep the gold drops lower if there is only one character farming. Increase the drops and gold the more people (Non-henchmen) are in the party. If people have to farm for gods sake make em do it together.
The nerfs haven't stopped my cash flow one bit. I run around perdition rock with a bunch of mates helpiing some poor fellow cap skills. By the time we're done (About an hour) I'm close to a skill point, and have made around 2k from items and gold drops.
Maybe this is what Anet is striving for? Trying to get the farmers to work together instead of solo?

I can not belive this this blows the new players or the people who dont have the money to lets say buy a 100k item of of someone are the ones getting most hurt here, and also it is unfair to give everything to the pvpers what are they trying to do turn this into pvp only game or something? give us back our beloved farming spots it doesnt hurt anyone when everyone can farm go out destroy several groups of something and be able to have a few nice items outa the deal not play through the entire game and wow i have a non-max dmg (insert item here) with crappy mods. This is not fixing the economy you have to be able to spend money to make it so to speak and without any spots to farm there goes spending it along with the people who have a truck load of cash/items already charging outlandish prices because farming has been nerfed and now items are even harder to come across. this is bullpucky ANET and I think you should treat us as good as the pvpers are treated(no offense towards pvpers) So again I /sign this petition and hopefully gaile grey or someone will stop by and go ohh and help the pver's out.
