Merge accounts?
I would buy another copy of Guild Wars if i had the option of merging the two accounts.
Why? For the extra storage and character slots.
I currently only have one PC and so cannot switch items between accounts unless i wanted to annoy a friend with the hassle.
Does ArenaNet have any plans for such a system or perhaps the ability to purchase extra slots? I sure hope they do.
I can bet i am not the only person who would buy another copy...since most of those with two PC's have already done so.
I hope Gaile can answer this question for us.

i think of only 4 characters as a design flaw waiting to be fixed. i don't want to pay for extra slots, they should be given.

I would sign this but I feel every account should have an absolute minimum 7 slots - 1 each class and a pvp - 8 would be even sweeter so I can have a perma pre searing or storage char - maybe when we buy the expansion our accounts will be expanded
I want to make primary necro, ele, and ranger still... but have to erase 1 of my chars and all of the effort and gold I spent on their 15k armors? Get a new account and have to unlock everything again? Have to get someone to trade items between accounts for me? Account merge like you suggested is an okay second best option.. but I think they should expand to at least 7 slots...soon.. like when.. the PVE update comes out... as a gesture of good faith... well I can wish can't I?
An official comment would be fabulous.

If they haven't addes extra slots, it's probably because they would have to upgrade their servers and thats costs a lot of $$$, not because they're greedy bastards. This merging idea is great.

There is no way to merge accounts right now, might never be.
I'd like to see it, with expanded slots, since I have bought two copies. =)
This is going to *very* important when expansions come out, because I really don't want to buy expansions for two accounts over and over again... =p
(And I don't currently expect to want to log on with both accounts at once. The only reason I do this is to trade items between accounts.)

There has been a massive demand for more character slots and ArenaNet would be foolish IMO not to listen to that particular request.
It seems that we can't get the full potential from our purchase because of the slot limitations and giving extra slots in an expansion would earn Anet alot of brownie points indeed.
I am hoping for this merge accounts to become reality OR free slots in the expansion. Either way, i need a perma mule.
While on the subject of storage/slots etc...ANet, please increase stack sizes to 1000 instead of 250. Anyone disagree? That would effectively quadrouple possible storage abilities of pack rats.
Does 1000 wood planks in one slot take up more server space than 4 slots of 250? I doubt it.

999 wood might be a better thing to ask for, since 999 uses the same amount of numbers that 250 uses, if you get what i mean...adding that extra number to make store stuff **** 4 numbers might just push it too far, and whats one wood between friends?

Look, I get the impression that the guys at ANet are crafty mofos. They would probably be able to find a way to increase stack size to 1000 if it were a real issue. Same applies to the increasing of character slots.

Yeah, like deleting every rockshot in the game and turning them into slots.

so long as I can still choose not to merge. I have 2 accounts and I use 1 for PvE only and the other was 1 mule, 1 PvP (this is the account with everything unlocked), and the 2 other professions. This one is guildless and I want it that way while my other one is in a guild and I want to keep it that way.

Computers use binary number system and there number 250 eats 8-bits while 999 would eat 10-bits. They spare 2-bits from each item amount counter by using 250 instead 999
8-bits (0-255 in decimal, total 256 different numbers)
9-bits (0-511 in decimal, total 512 different numbers)
10-bits(0-1023 in decimal, total 1024 different numbers)
255 limit probably would feel too technical so they use 250 which feels more "humane".

From what I figure, Arenanet has limited the character slots mostly to prevent pack-muling and hoarding. I seriously doubt disk space is the main issue for the limit. Each character slot should take about 1-3 kilobytes. Actually, less (as negligible an amount it is) disk space would be used from an account of 8 characters as opposed to 2 accounts of 4 each.
Since we're buying an extra account, why not let them be merged. There isn't really anything abusable about that over someone who buys two separate accounts, other than the fact that they will share unlocked items, which isn't really a problem anyways.

A few points of practical information, if we were to care about this, which we shouldn't:
- Using 10 bits is almost never done. 8, 16, 32, 64, etc. Once in a while something weird like 24 will show up, but not for something like this.
- This information is certainly kept in some kind of SQL database, where they've probably set it to be a single byte (i.e. eight bits). So more than 256 would, in fact, be "hard" to do, and would double the size that each "stack" in the game takes up. Of course, doubling that number would make it so you could theoretically have about 65,000 in a stack...
- Units of 10 do matter, though, for screen size and printing. It's kind of a minor thing, but it matters if there's only room for three digits. Especially since it prints the number in the tiny box where the item goes.

I dont really see why they should. The chars are players not pack mules that is what the storage is for and there is no reason why you would want to store high amounts of wood iron etc its only for what you need then sell the rest
I would like to see being able to to have 6 chars per acc I like to play the game with at least 3 different chars and keep deleting one if I want to go pvp or go back to pre-searing just for the fun of it
but I think with having 6 chars then people will want to be able to store more gold more items etc so it will go on and on
I really would like more options there but if I really want more chars then its up to me to decide do I want to buy another key and as far as I can see its free to play online a great game and buying another key is not much to ask for
And merging accs is not necessary for game play so see no point in looking at that
If you dont need it sell it
