This Game Has Serious Flaws
And I don't think I'll be getting an expansion pack. This might be a long post so bear with me.
First I'll start out what's good about this game: No montly fee. This is great, because when I quit this game, I won't have wasted more money than I should have. Skill based. There are no potions or instant spells that own everyone. There's a lot of skill involved. Good gfx, nuff said. No PVP ganking. I can go do an area or mission without being ganked by a guy 10 lvls higher than you calling you a noob and killing you with one hit.
But this game has some very serious flaws that some people need to consider, many things that are wrong with this game, things that are built into the game and can not be fixed.
The Worst Community Ever
Imagine World of Warcraft, except worse. Since there's no montly fee, it attracts a lot of "cheap skates" if you will. Those lamers that played Diablo II all the way from 2001 to 2005 are now here. I can't stand this community, especially the guilds. I have so many stories that are quite funny, but make me cry on the inside.
One time I was doing a mission, half of the people were in a guild, 2 of them were not. We got to the very end of the mission, and one of the guys was aggroing groups and just wasting time, so I told him to "please stop". One of his guild mates was holding a crystal that you needed to finish the mission, and told me to "say 'I want to suck <name>'s balls' or we won't finish the mission for you". Ofcourse I wouldn't say something like that, resigning to a 12 year old. Lucky for me, there was also a countdown timer, and they held the crystal and wouldn't finish the mission, wasting 20 minutes before he finally ran the crystal in.
One time I was doing a mission, also one with a guild, me being the only one without a guild. One guy had a vampiric sword, and they told me to switch all of my elementalist skills out for monk skills before the mission started so I could heal them. I asked him to switch out the vampiric sword because I had to heal him in middle of peaceful walks. He then said "everyone go to the guild channel", then they told me that they were all AFK. I told them that I was sorry and that we should just finish the mission because I didn't want to waste another second of my time like I did in the previous mission, and they taunted me calling me a noob and other names, but thankfully they did finish the mission.
Not to mention all of the monks that don't want to rez you because "you should have run away instead of just standing there", Warrior Monks that just run into fighting, people that scam you in channels, flame you when you don't want to sell your item for a cheaper price, flame you and say "I can sell the same item 2wice as cheap", people who draw a penis on the minimap all the time, that spam radar bleeps. People who leave the mission or quest when things don't go their way, people who leave the mission then flame you when you don't give them an ebon spider leg the spider dropped for you, etc.
Sure, they may be a small minority, but there hasn't been a day when I haven't argued with some 12 year old because of one of the above reasons.
Monk Class Flaws
Monks. Everyone wants one, no one wants to be one. You need a monk later in the game to finish any mission, since if you don't have one, it will probably be too hard. This is a huge imballance in the game, giving monks too much power. If you are a monk, all it takes is "LFG monk" and you will get 10 group invites.
Most monks I've grouped with are totall jackasses. Granted, if I played a monk and heard "Heal me" or "rez me" or "why din't you raize me noob" every 5 seconds, I would probably turn into an asshole too. But when monks don't raise you and say "you will respawn in the cinematic" or say "I was raising you already, but since you asked me to rez you I'm not going to do it now" or deliberately not healing you because you pissed them off somehow, it gets to be just stupid. Monks have too much power. It's like a handicapped person that bosses you around, and if you tell them to stop you are shunned since they are handicapped.
I understand that being a monk is a tedious job, and this is why this a game ballance issue that I do not see being fixed unless they take the monk out of the game, and give every class suitable healing.
Huge Grind
This game promised to be a grind free game, with the lvl 20 cap easily achieved by others. My ass. This game has a lot of grind, and it is very tedious to level up. Also, to boot, levels don't even give you that much of a bonus.
If you just do missions and quests, without grinding, you will find yourself out leveled. Monsters don't give enough XP, and travelling with mercenaries is slow and boring. Most monsters you meet take a long time to kill (unlike in Diablo II where you could cut a monster open with a click of a button.) Infact, fighting a group of 3 devourers takes maybe :30 to kill all of them with a group full of mercenaries, gaining you only 10-20 XP.
Anyone who denies that this game is not a grind is kidding themselves. All of the quests require you to walk into some location for what seems to be miles. Areas are not randomized, so you will be walking around a lot through areas you have already been in finishing quests.
About half way through the game I became bored, doing missions not because they were fun, but because they would advance me through the game.
Even the easiest of quests require you to kill a horde of monsters that you have already killed in previous quests. It took me 57 hours to reach LVL 20 on my first time through the game (Hopefully it will be my last), and I'm only around ~3/5ths done.
Too Difficult
As a LVL 20 E/Mo it took me about 7 tries just to get to an Ascention mission. Hydras in the desert in groups of 3s that cast meteor and then fire ball 3 times on you kill you in less than 10 seconds. My group ran through most of the fights because it would take over an hour to fight through, thanks to areas being spaced out so much.
Unless you get a ballanced group, missions become very difficult and time consuming. Combine this with a lame community that loves to rush in and fight mobs
If you all die in a mission, you have to restart the mission. Missions usually take at least 30 minutes, and unless you do it with henchmen you have to do it all in one try.
Guilding
It cost a lot of money to do any guild based things. I thought it was really expensive to get capes, until I realized that sigils are going for 50k. 50k. That's a lot of money. Unless you farm (I heard you can get 2k every 30 minutes of farming. BLEH) that's really expensive. I play with my friends only and I don't want to invite 30 people into my guild. So for a group of 7, its a big pain in the ass to get a Guild Hall, something that seems so basic for a game titled "Guild Wars".
------------------------
I was walking home and thinking about the things wrong with this game, but I'm just going to stop this. I'm sure you can think of tons of things wrong with this game, and I must have only half of what I was going to write.
I will finish this game, frankly because I still have some fun with it. Even with all these faults it's a good game. But I'm not going to get an expansion pack, and I doubt that I will bother with making a 2nd character.
People really need to consider these points.

First, I doubt it is the worst community ever (from my experience). I have yet to run into these "extremely immature people (maybe because I play mostly at night, after their "bed-time" lol).
Second, I am a monk (and I hope not a jackass, but I try my best ). i do not think healing is a tedious job, because I am Heal/Smite skill build (can deal some damage too, but since I got to the Desert, I found myself equipping much more healing spells than I used to have ) Taking monks out and giving every class good healing would not work, and create tons of balance issues...
Next, there is only a grind if you want it to be there. I got level 20 rather quickly, and not "grinding" a single second, but rather calmly and slowly exploring and taking in the scenery. I got level 20 after 80 or so hours because of this. The problem is probably you wanted to get there so fast
About the difficulty, of course Ascension is supposed to be hard. If it were easy, it would just be crap and boring... So far, the main problems you are having is because you want everything NOW, rather than actually playing through the game to get it.
And Guild stuff is expensive so that one person can just walk in and make a "one man guild" with everything. You have to get a group that is willing to donate funds towards these ends.
I do think there are some things wrong with this game. Luckily, all or most can be fixed with the free live updates, and the rest will be resolved in the expansion pack. However, if you do not like the game, i strongly encourage you to start playing a different one, as games are supposed to be for fun anyway.

Just a few things.
The community:
There are some assholes, true enough. But you make it sound as if every person you've ever encountered in a guild that you weren't in totally screwed you over. Firstly, I think you've just had bad luck. I've run into very few people like that, very few. And if I didn't like them, I booted them from the party.
Another thing, your first major mistake was sticking to pick up groups in the first place. Who in their right mind DOESN'T expect some crap from a pick up group? You should just find some cool people and party with them, or JOIN a guild and party with them.
Monk Balance Issue:
I've noticed none of the things you're complaining about, monks aren't overpowered or underpowered, each class has it's pros and cons, it's not that difficult to get used to.
Huge Grind:
...huge grind? TEDIOUS to level? I took my time and got to lvl 20 in 85 hours. It is NEVER hard to level in this game, of all the complaints I've read about grind rarely if ever do I hear someone complain that it takes too long to level. Have you been fighting in ascalon the entire time or something? Hate to say it, but 85, 100, or even 150 hours isn't a ridiculous amount of time to level all the way to 20. People can do it in 24 hours, it is NOT hard to level up. In fact you said you got to lvl 20 faster than I did. How in the HELL is 57 hours a lot of time to lvl up to 20? You reached the max level in two and a half days buddy.
This game does have some grind, true enough. But nowhere near an above reasonable amount UNLESS you ONLY wanted to do PvP. But this does not, by any means sound like your case, it seems like you went for the PvE pretty quickly. If by grind you mean farming the same areas over and over again to get some rare drops or something like that, yeah it can be pretty annoying going through it over and over. But I'm lvl 20 right now, and there are still quite a few places I skipped over, I now get to go back, try and find them all, explore the rest of the shiverpeaks which I've never done, etc.
Also I DID just do missions and quests, and I did not by any means find myself outleveled, in fact I was one of the higher levels up until the last few cities of Kryta where we all hit 20. Did you just not look for the quests?
Mobs taking a long time to kill: ...no? Forgive me if you're used to being lvl 68 where you can run around and kill any mob in the game in half a second, but this game isn't like that. In fact believe it or not you need to work for some things in PvE.
Guilds:
The point of a guild is to, you know, have a group of people who're fun and good to play with. I mean...if you're your only guild member, then yeah it's going to suck a little bit. But a good guild is going to have more than you and one other guy. Also, did you know you can win sigils? You don't NEED to buy them.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
To put it simply I guess, this isn't the game for you. I guess you can go back to WoW and hit your next level, and then have someone go steal the items in the chest that was guarded by the mobs you killed to get there.
Sorry mate, you just don't seem to be using a lot of reason. Put away the kar98 and quit expecting your shots to kill with one hit, you have to do things in this game.
You know, one of the things I love about this game is how hard it is. Even at lvl 20, you've still got a challenge. You get the highest level in other games and you can one shot anyone and anything basically, no, here you have to think, take your time, and try to take down the gigantic beast with your party consisted of all lvl 20's like yerself.
Also, did you take the time to notice how on the ball Anet has been with it's updates? Seems to me if any of these were major issues they'd have addressed them by now, seeing as how fast they took care of that casino issue.
Not the game for you I guess.

The community can be less then pleasent in certain situations. But if your smart, you can sort the trash out and can find that the community is quite nice.

It's a common fact that in all games, Healers are over wanted and under used but that doesn't make them bad. All professions are equaly useful, but Monks a must.
Complaining that Monks suck because of the people who play them is a lame exscuse, it's the player, not the class.

It's impossible to create a sucessful game without any sort of grind, people are just so stubborn to understand leveling/grind is stupid.
Guild Wars does have some grind, but by far the least in any online game I've ever played. Honestly, the little grind doesn't even slightly bother me. I'm enjoying the game for what it is: better then everything else I've ever played.

Now that's just stupid; either get better or find a decent guild to party with. It's obvious your a PUG'er and don't have a good guild. You haven't played Guild Wars until you've been in a good party.

If your in such a small guild, why do you need a Guild Hall? However, I do agree that Sigils are far to exspensive. But luckily prices are falling like a rock in the sky.

Most of this has been rehashed a dozen times over in a dozen different threads.
What it comes down to is this:

Now there's a well stated post if I've ever read one.
Obviously it's not the game for you, but you're giving up to easily. Try getting a good party and see if that works better. If not, I guess we won't be seeing you around later.

Blah blah blah.....
I think you SERIOUSLY need to get over it.
Oh no! A few idiots are drawing penises on the map! THE GAME IS OVER NO POINT IN PLAYING WITH THE PENIS ON THE MAP!
It's people like you that cause them to do it, why you might ask? They are just looking for attention. When they draw a penis and you yell at them not to they're going to do it more. They ARE children and you can't stop it by posting some rant on a forum.

There are one problem with the game's mission progress style...
All the "good" players would finish all the missions in a very fast pace while leaving the "not so good" players still at the back in a slower pace... That means if you got some daily life to take care of and play once every here and now... You will then be automatically stuck with those people who had gotten furstrated so much from failing the mission and completely pissed off shooting off their anger at you... OR you meet those people who already got their 2nd or 3rd character there and are now VERY ****y because they think they know everything and a darn good at it... and last of all You meet guild helping their slower member to get through the missions, but the whole guild was a big jerk to whoever that is not a guild...
I really really hate voice chat right now honestly... Voice chat make people ignore regular typing, so no mic = shut up... It is really screwd up, I had already promise myself to never type in guild chat ever again because I would only get ignore, as I am sick and tired of these jerks ignoring everything I type... I would probably leave the guild soon... The hell are people thinking? I am a lesser being because I don't use mic?
Anyway... There are still nice people... good luck finding them... and with our friendship system going... I doubt you can keep your friends together that you met on GW... since you will always be catching them in a BAD time, unless you wait for a long while doing nothing or something boring... or be a jerk and drop out of your group of players to go to the friend.
Also, just look at a few posts here already... instead of understanding... these people shoot their mouth off... the topic poster obviously has had his/her pain on the game, don't need more from you guys. However, one thing can be sure is... you must move on.

Uh you could just get a mic?
Talking is faster, easier, and more efficient than typing.

Its faster but its also forcing to hear people voices and when you are looking at a pretty female E/Me ass and the voice that comes out is of 15 years old male ...
It gets better when you happen to be playing with non english speaking players and you have to deal with accents, trust me that hearing me in english sould be enough for you to want me to just type.

'nuff said.
He actually started threatening me after that saying "the damage has been done". Mildly amusing.

This shows EXACTLY how balance this game is. Monks being jackasses because there aren't enough of them. If more people playing them, they would have to curb their arrogant attitudes. Same thing you see in real world, with professions in demand can ask more pay and switch companies if they like. That's how supply/demand works. If you don't like it, either ditch them and heal yourself, or if you need their skills so badly, learn to tolerate them.
As for mission difficulties, yes they are difficult, but not undoable. Lots of ppl already ascended so no point of changing it. As for your method of playing, why do you have to level up or completing objectives so fast? Just sit back and enjoy the game. Repeating hard missions isn't always bad; I often find great drops, including dragon swords, by repeating missions. Sooner or later you'll find good groups to team with and will finish missions in no time.
Are communities bad because of no monthly fees? Are you implying only rich people are good people and poor people are trash and don't deserve to play with you? It's ridiculous to think by raising fees they'll get a better community; an older one maybe, but not better. But the reason it's bad is human nature of impatience, insults/abuse and finger pointing. That exists not just in young teenagers but in older folks as well. Just look around your workplace.

The Worst Community Ever
I dont know about ever. But I do agree to some degree. There are some good folks out there. Im one, and Ive meet a few. But there is no penelty for being a jerk either. So...why not be a jerk and get away with it?
Monk Class Flaws
Yes. Yes. and Yes. Monks may not be overpowerd, but they are way to important. Monks are the glue that holds the team together. In the expansion Id like to see other class with skills they need to be indepent of monks, or some other class that can hold the team together as well.
Huge Grind
eeeh...some grind, but not huge. I got to lvl20 pretty casually. If grinding is ever a factor its in getting more skill points (you run out quick if you dont know what your looking for) and making money to buy all that leet crap like sigils and 15k armor.
Too Difficult
This game is very difficult as it progresse but, Ive learn, very possable. I do believe with the proper skill you can do the whole pve with henchs. Ive said it before and this is true, after many attempts to beat the game with well rounded PUGS, it took me, a r/e a r/mo and a e/ne with some henchs to beat it. We just took our time (it took a while), retreated and regrouped, called shots, and never gave up.
------------------------
Ive never seen a whole community of players completely satisfied with an online game. We always have suggestions and find things that could make it better. This game has some serious flaws of its own. But with time, the develepors should identify the ones that need attention and work out the issues.....hopefully. Sometimes, those issues are addressed in the expansion packs.

Ginko said "Complaining that Monks suck because of the people who play them is a lame exscuse, it's the player, not the class."
... wtf?! You just contradicted yourself. Complaining that monks suck because of the people who play them, is the SAME as saying "It's the player not the class" Doi
