instead of favor, fight to FOW / UW
Ok, you could apply this to the FOW & UW or another new area in the game if you like it how it is.
The idea is that you gather together your team of 8 then enter an arena against another 8, and the winners get to go on through to the special PVE area.
Discuss?

how about if you win the Arranged 4v4 Arena for 10 consective wins, you get a token and you can use it to access a special PvE area once.

a token possibly,
10 wins no maybe 5, im mainly a pve'r i just woulndt bother with that.
The idea of having a team of 8 is that you can then take that same team, already together through to fow / uw or another area?
The problem with a token is that you would then have to spend another half an hour (possibly?) gathering a new team for x area.
What im trying to do here is creat a senario that combines both pvp and pve, but without to much of the pvp to put the pve'rs off but instead get them interested.
Maybe different areas would require more tokens / wins?

This idea doesn't feel right to me either. But nonetheless it's a solution and thus I applaud it. All solutions contribute to the brainstorm. Tokens for winning pvp or possibly certain (very difficult and gods oriented) pve quests would be cool too.

firstly it dosnt have to be a replacement for favor, but maybe a requirment for another special level. Or maybe just UW or FOW not both, suggest away.
There are several reasons why i would like to see something like this...
1.How many times have you got a group together for FOW/UW for that team to not work out, this would make team selection more important.
2.It would be a good way to encourage group play (no more solo 105 monks)
3.when you leave pre-sering you enter an areana, this part of the game gives a hint of PVP areas mixed in within the game not separate. I think that one thing this game fails on is to bring both together, its pvp or pve not both.
Now about tokens, im not so sure about them now. As ive realised that you could sell them to people, Good or Bad im not sure?

I don't think that forcing people to PvP to get to the best PvE area is not the best way to do it (although still an improvement on the WaW system).
I would suggest having teams have to fight sucessive waves of monsters of increaseing difficulty would be better. So once you've cleared a number of rounds you may continue to the area, the rounds starting small (eg a Risen Ask Hulk) and getting bigger, up to a normal group from the area you're going to.

Also a good idea, but not much of a challenge. Getting into the best areas should have a price attached to it, and i dont just mean money.
What im looking for (and I hope im not the only one) is to bring PVP and PVE together for a selected few game instances. I feel this is what they have tried to do with WaW but its not working out (for europe anyway).
Maybe it could be made so that if you have favor you go through anyway even if you lose, otherwise just the winner goes through?
Also maybe it could be a token instead of a win, as if you are really that against doing 1 pvp match (why?) you could buy it from someone else.

to bind PvE to PvP together, one solution is DoTA style arena.
Basically it is 1side vs 1side PvP-PvE hybrid with constant NPC allies spawns from both sides.

Exactly, and neither side will be happy until the favor is gone and you don't have to go through PvE to unlock stuff.
It's a good idea, I'll give you that. However, now I HAVE to pvp in order to go to the UW or FoW. At least with the current system someone else can do it for me. It would be an excellent solution to Europe and Korea who don't hold the favor as long as America does.

I've never made it into the UW or FoW yet and probably never will.... and add having to PvP to the requirements for entering and that really screws it. Heh.

i agree with pvp to gain pve , but thats what hoh does , but its too hard
there could be more of that kind , and with the same party , pvp to especial pve sound just great , and could even be , pvp to pve then to pvp then to pve , always diferent places and diferent teams to fight , until you reach the hoh and fight for favor in the end ...
for exemple :
same 8 person party if always win ...
mission -> pvp arena -> mission -> pvp arena -> mission -> pvp arena -> mission -> hall of heros.

I like the idea (kind of OT) of meshing pve and pvp together as you said is in the transition from pre to post sear... I hope more is done with this in chapter 2.

It's not fair to force people who are looking to PvE to PvP just to get to PvE areas. PvPers are already complaining about how they have to grind PvE to unlock essential skills, runes, and mods for PvP. So why break the system even more and piss off the other half of the players?
Basically, all the reasons why I don't want to play PvP (too much of a time commitment to get good, I don't want to waste money on a headset I don't need, etc.) would apply here. Also, a party built to succeed in PvP will often not last very long in a tough PvE area. Interrupt mesmer anyone?

OK...this is what pisses me off. When a some PvP-only guy with 1,305,696 fame whom I care nothing about goes on a rant about how Anet "ruined" the game by catering to "n00b PvErs OMG HAXOR," he's right and we should all join in and complain and also bow down while we're at it because we're not worthy. Apparently, however, if a PvEr doesn't want to waste his time playing PvP with a bunch of Counterstrike players, he should just go buy another game? Notice how no area in PvE currently FORCES you to play PvP? I wonder why that is...maybe it's because the designers always intended the two to be separate? My money is just as good as yours, you have no right to tell me to go buy another game because I don't agree with your stupid PvP fetish, so just go away.
