I found a build that will let me solo lvl 20 minotaurs as a Me/N (3 at a time safely, more if I slowly add them), but I hate every minute of it. I could care less about drops, just the 1,400 exp I get every time through my run.

Indeed, i hate the mesmer outside of pvp... and even then it's hard to find a good public one, and i'd rather play another class...

I probably shouldn't add fuel to the fire but...
I don't play a solo monk. Since monk skills are the most effective way of keeping the party alive during challenging quests/missions, my monk is a healer. Period.
I don't really like to solo that much. Sure, I do farm with hopes of getting that really nice gold item or some extra cash to buy skills and armor. But I prefer to play with groups of people so we can cooperate and communicate.
I do think game developers should maintain an active role in both balancing gameplay so no one class has an obvious advantage and listening to the community in order to meet the needs of the masses.
That being said, I do not agree with the Protective Bond nerf as it stands. A previous poster (I'm sorry I forgot to quote you) wondered why A.Net didn't just change PB to an "Other Ally" only skill. Same cost/benefit, effective nerf of the solo monk builds. Well, for the 20 minutes it took someone to figure out which other skills work just nearly as effectively. I will miss seeing that familiar icon in my upkeep screen, knowing I can worry less about that warrior taking all the damage and start healing the ele with no armor...
I will also miss the benefits of the solo monks. Have I shocked anyone? I don't play a solo monk so how could I possibly benefit? Easily. As far as I can tell, drops in the game are randomized. If I farm the desert for six hours I stand as much chance of getting a gold axe as anyone else who farms the desert for six hours. This is balanced. What solo monks did was bring many more items from their solo trips into the market, thereby increasing supply. As supply was met and demand lowered, prices dropped to compensate. Suddenly more people (myself included -- I already mentioned I do not farm a lot) could afford more powerful gear. Once the supply starts running lower the prices will go up again. I don't think this recent nerf will destroy the economy, but I do think it will make things more difficult until another solo build is spammed around the internet.
I will miss being able to run up so my favorite 55 Monk and excitedly asking "What'd ya bring me!???!!?!!?" as I attempt to pilfer through his/her backpack. Oh well. Perhaps s/he will figure out another solo build so I may continue to get good deals on interesting items.

In other words: My shit got nerfed and I'm going to make a post complaining about it it the most roundabout way possible.
It's a pain in the ass, but it's better in the long run.

With that logic, they should nerf swords since 90% of warriors use them. Might help balance weapon prices in the economy too. Since a hammer and a sword with the same stats have a price discrepancy of what? 5-10 times??
Yea, nerf swords. They are overused.
Nerf Wands and Foci too, we need more staff users out there.
Nerf Charge, Sprint and Balanced Stance. Runners have an unfair advantage and are overused. Level 6's at Citadel anyone? Yup, seen that recently. Saw a Level 3 in 15k at the Grotto too.
Nerf healing skills, Monks overuse healing skills.
Nerf Nuke spells, Ele's overuse Nuke spells.
Nerf Shutdowns, Mez really abuse those skills.
Nerf Blood skills. Have you seen the life a Necro can steal? No one else can do that. Overused. Nerf the hell outta that...
Nerf Bows. Almost every Ranger I've seen uses those darned things. WAY overused.
Have a nice day! =)

at least with Magic, they make changes to cards or rules only when a new expansion is launched, not everytime some people whine
there should be a warning on the box and on the website : this is a beta game

no online PvP RPG ever leaves beta, there will always be balance issues, overpowered builds etc. simply due to the fact that there isn't one character choice with one weapon and one skill (attack). If you leave an imbalance in the game too long it becomes far too widely used and becomes harder to fix as a portion of the community feel their success depends on the overpowered skill(s).
As for soloing, I have no issues with it except to say that if Anet do introduce counters or nerf skills, that true soloers should see it as a challenge rather than a nerf - otherwise you are simply a farmer relying on an imbalanced build.

LOL, i like that sarcastic tone - Let's no forget this game is 3 months old and that NCsoft is a relatively new company. Continuous bitching about the game isn't going to solve anything! Try looking at the GOOD things NCsoft has accomplished: remember the prices of superior runes during the first month of gaming? i certainly do, rare materials are also a lot easier to get. So what if the invici-monk build is long gone? there are other ways of soloing, i heard spamming protective spirit worked fine (haven't tried it for myself though). Besides this game has NO MONTHLY FEE! You want to spend hours farming?? get yourself a copy of WoW.
Last thing, there is one thing i read in this thread that i found too true, since they nerfed gold drops - gold drops shouldn't as dissapointing to identify yes you can upgrade them, but with WHAT? the best mods are supposed to be on gold drops! *me playing the game* sw33t and max dmg gold holy staff!! Meh, improves casting speed usind death magic skills 11%??? :'( - *sold to merchant*

Most people fail to comprehend the intent of my posts. I am less upset about the nerfing of one specific skill or build, but rather about how it was done and the ramifications of this action.
I have said all along that I wish for A.Net/NCSoft to exercise restraint and employ imagination when they do make a change. Make sure the change is absolutely necessary and make sure that once the change is made, it does not render other aspects of the game obsolete. (I won't reitirate this obsolescence as I have already explained elsewhere.)
Why do I see the nerfing of the monk build unnecessary? Because it is public domain. If a person chooses not to use something that is public domain to the individual's advantage, that is a choice they have made! A.Net/NCSoft should not step in to make this choice for everyone. If anything, the Droknar run has more "detrimental" effect to the game than this "invincimonk" build (or microscopically, Protective Bond).
Quote:
I've always loved to see what "roles" gamers invent that were not intended by the developers upon the release of the game. One of the more popular of these roles is the game's growing population of runners that allow low level players to "hitch a ride" to the higher level zones in the game. The most popular run is obviously the Lornar's Pass run that allows a player to reach Droknor's Forge through Beacon's Pearch with the aid of a competent runner. Running has turned into a fun mini-game for a portion of the game's population but it also gives the ability for low level players to reach content they should not be permitted to access. It would be a shame to make Lornar's Pass un-runnable but "twinking" low level characters is often something that the developers address with an iron fist. Are precautions being taken to put level requirements on some of the higher level zone portals or perhaps even the armor purchased at the higher stages of the game without completely crippling the runner's ability to be unique?
|
--Gaile of A.Net/NCSoft
If this is the case, has A.Net/NCSoft gone flippant mad? I did not use an "exploit" or introduced an external program into the process to achieve my goal. I stayed within the confines of the game. If this is the nature of the future to come with this game then, sadly there is no reason to play it because if I become innovative, I'll just get trumped by the flippant behaviors of A.Net/NCSoft.
I request that A.Net/NCSoft take every complaint with a grain of salt and thoroughly evaluate the situation before formulating a conclussion.
To me, the solutions provided to Protective Bond (or the "invincimonk") were rushed and totally lack provocative thought.

Another thread devolving into either a blasting point for trolls or people who have a point but can't seem to do it without coming across whining.
How original.
I agree with the OP that come of the decisions and implementations hurt specific people and those people do have a right to be frustrated. However, you found a way once to get a build that you liked, why not work on a new one?
It may affect the way you like to play based on your skills or play type. However, every game will have changes, and on your view, it may be good or bad. Can you work with it? The changes have not killed off GW. Made it more difficult though? Yes, depending on your skill and weapon setup, it will later how you have to play your current charcter.
To the poster that said GW was not being sold anymore:
What?
I see it for sale at all the stores here in my area that sell PC games. Maybe in your area it may be sold out, but it is not for a fact that the game has been sold out and/or not been replensihed at stores.

your posting hiatory proves that is not true
you have had not the slightest concern about the previous nerfs or balancing of skills until your personal ox got gored.
more than 30 posts bitching your head off about 1 skill being nerfed is absurd and you can yell all you want but it will not be restored for your convenience

Digression. If you have something to say to me, personally, do so. My e-mail is public.
Posts like these do not contribute to intent of the OP.

I believe that A.Net/NCSoft has been too active in trying to help us play this this game.
For example, if we find a good farming spot-->bam, nerfed!
If we find a good build for farm-->bam, nerfed!
This vicious cycle has to stop! I don't mind if they make changes to specific skills that are over powering in PvP that there are no other means to beat it, but actively make changes to farming builds or farming areas is ridiculous.
If this vicious cycle doesn't stop soon, this game will die.
Also, players need to be more mature and stop nagging so much. If you can't be a certain strategy or build, use it! If you are too stubborn to use it, it's your loss and your own fault--don't go crying to A.Net/NCSoft.
And A.Net/NCSoft need to stop being a "parent" in this game. We're not children. Let us play the game and do things for ourselves.
Eventually, there will be an equilibrium.

Solution: Close all fan message boards.
These things only happend becuase people complained about it and you and everyone else who is complaing now didn't stand up for it.
