Just another request to nerf Smiting
OK, Here's the thing:
People say "Why nerf Smiting, there are already ways to shut it down?", and they're right about that. But - and this is the reason I propose it should receive el nerfirino - you can only really conteract the smite build with a dedicated "anit-smite" build. This means you have to have a Mesmer and a Necro in your group. For GvG and HoH this is fine, if you have eight slots you should be more than willing to devote two of them toward the greater good of not seeing "-22 Balthazar's Spirit" and "-54 Zealot's Fire" spamming on your screen every...single...second. But Smiting kills Team Arenas and Competition Arenas. I used to love Team Arenas. Going in there with three guildies used to be the greatest thing...I'm getting emotional (no, not E/Mo-tional) just remembering it... but now the Smite spammers have made it too much for me. I refuse to participate in "build of the week/month" activities, believing that a diverse, balanced team should triumph more often than not. But you don't, anymore, you just DON'T. You approach the other team, and instantly here come two warriors running at you full speed, brazenly glowing with enchantments. If you're the mesmer who dares get in the way of this, you're cut down before you can blink.
To summarize before I get too long winded - I used to see it as a challange to counter the smite build. Now it's just annoying to have to do it in every trip into the arenas. It's not invincible, but it is nearly so. It's so much more powerful than any other attack strategy, strong consideration should be given to cutting it's effectiveness back a bit. Not killing the idea, but making it far less domainant. I've got suggestions, but I'll leave it to see if anyone asks my 2 cents worth. Honestly, I trust the devs more than myself.

i know smiting can be a bother to try and counteract but so can masive lightning spikes and ranger disruption. smiting may be more so than those for you but there are many creative single spells that crush smiters such as ether lord malise what ever the elite version is then rend enchantments and so on down to chiblins.... mabey not that far. i understand that these are all necro and mesmer skills but elementalists and rangers can deal because of the lack of healing coming out of the monks. fellow warriors... thats the tough one.

Quickly now, before the slogan for smiting in PvP becomes "Just Do It".

The minigun ranger build can be easily countered with one skill, diversion, and lightning spikers are easily foiled with protective spirit. But the only skill that really counters Smite builds (Rend Enchantments) causes you to lose a good deal of health just to remove the enchantments...one time! They'll be recast at once, of that have no doubt. By then your necro will be eating a dirt sandwich, all is lost, et. al.
As to the link about the new type of arena, I'll leave that discussion to that thread, but it's a solid idea - just not nearly as easy to implement as, say, making zealots lose an energy regen pip for it's duration. One of many easy fixes to what is all in all a growing epidemic.

The only thing more prevalent than smiting builds is ppl complaining about them. There are numerous posts on this forum discussing smiting builds and providing tips on beating them. There is also a separate but related discussion about whether or not ether renewal is overpowered. If the subject has not yet been talked to death, I'm sure it would be easier for all to continue to add to the ongoing threads rather than start new ones.

Hey, I'm just trying to express an idea. Whether it'd have been better off in another thread or not is, ultimately, not the point. I'm not the Miss Manners of Forum ettiquitte, I'm a frustrated individual with the ability to post a topic in a forum, so I did it. My subject was pretty clear, I figure if people don't want to read what I have to say they can not open the thread. Sorry if I'm going out on a limb there.
