I think you answered your own question - the swords were designed for warriors, but it seems that spellcasters (especially monks) use them the most. That's why they got nerfed. I think they're gone for good...

That is exactly right. they are overpowered for any spellcaster. Good casters don't use their weapon for combat, and with a +5 energy sword and a +12 energy offhand with 20/20 recharge and fast casting (cheap collector stuff), the caster has 17 extra energy absolutely unconditionally, incredible casting bonuses, and still has the opportunity to apply a perfect mod or two, like fortitude, defense, or enchanting. All the benefits of a staff with better bonuses and more energy to boot.
All that being said, I might have one kicking around, but I think they are or will be worth far more than 100K soon enough.

These swords are definately not gone for good. they are still there and available to the rich exclusively. I think it's clear why these swords are overpowered and thus will give the richer PvP'ers a totaly unfair advantage over anyone who hasn't got that sword.
Either all examples of that sword should be whiped, Limited in some other way or brought back or PvP will belong to the rich instead of the skilled

I still have one, and I'm keeping that thing until I see it go for 400k.

You can fairly cheaply get a +5 energy >50 wand in trade, which really isn't a whole lot worse.

Wands can have up to +15, but you also get the penalty of -1 regen.

I think that they should either bring them back or delete them permanantly, its not fair that only the rich can have them.
Personally i would like to see them come back, then my warrior may actually use swords for once.

If you're intent on getting a one handed weapon with +5 always energy and don't care about modding it or the dmg it does... then there's a collector outside of Nolani's Academy that gives a fire wand for 3 charr carvings with +5 energy all the time.
It says it requires 5 fire, but I use it on my N/Me and I still get the +5 energy bonus.

However, the wand is clearly inferior. You cannot put a +20 enchant on the wand.

Interesting discussion.
Different approach: should this sword be nerfed?
If it is considered overpowered, why spare it from nerfing? Why stop at skills with gamebalancing?
