Divine Favour linked to Smiting Prayers?
It occured to me recently when all the El/Mos where running around smiting everyone to their hearts content that another class should not just be able to stick points in an attribute from their secondary profession and become better than (not merely just as good as) another character who is a primary of that class and who is dedicated to that attribute. The reason I use elmos as an example is because neglecting runes they are far superior smiters than primary monks as they have far larger energy reserves to play with and many smiting skills are energy intensive. I feel that monks, being the ones divinely blessed by the gods should be inherently superior when it comes to thwacking people with said gods wrath and so I would like it if Divine Favour was in some way linked to Smiting Prayers as then monks who are particularly blessed would be better at laying beatdowns on heathens and suchlike.
Basically this is a kind of half-formed suggestion and it is relatively minor it's just that elementalists with their Energy Storage seem to be able to monopolize many casters niches (I've often heard people say that Soul Reaping is useless in PvP and that you should go an El/Ne if you want necro skills as you will have more energy that way) and the exception of course is Mesmers who have Fast Casting which makes them inherently superior than an El/Me when using purely Mesmer skills. Sooooo, basically I would like it if primary attributes where better entwined with the other attributes of the profession, your thoughts?

Although emos used to have dominance over monk smiters, now that e/mos don't have infinite energy, monks have the advantage. Try using builds other than the old emo build.

Elementist is a damaging class, and it makes sense that they can use more attack spells even from another classes attribute, but that doesn't make them better. They may be able to do more damage, but a monk can use runes to up thier smite 1 to 3 points giving them a good bit more damage, but that's not all, monks can put points in divine favor to get healing out of thier smiting buffs.
Sure an elementist will be able to use more smite spells then a monk, and do more damage, but a monk can do damage and heal in half the casting, which is tactically useful and faster then casting twice as many spells for more damage. A monk is a support unit, and many of his smite magics are support, used correctly, a monk can do alot more for his team by buffing and healing then an elementist would do with monk spells, and the fact that he gets bonus healing on top of whatever effect a buff creates allows him to do more work in less time, compared to an elementist doing twice as many spells in twice as much time.
Personally, I find a E/N using blood magic more unbalanced as most blood magic doesn't revolve around having energy from corpses, and does damage wile returning health as well. But every class has the ability to excell over others with thier own skills.
As a prime example of a monk using his skills better then an elementist, An elementist with max points in energy and smite will do alot of damage, and that is all, A monk with points in smite, healing and divine will have strong healing because of the combination of healing and divine, and be able to do smite damage/buffs with healing. This is alot more effective then just doing damage, execially damage with no added tactical effect. The fact that an elementist can pour on damage with many classes skills doesn't make them better then that class, but it takes more then nuking to make a party, and the small amounts of damage done each hit with most smite magics leave plenty of room for recovery time compared to elementist skills which do more damage in singular hits along with tactical effects.
As a side note, the damage on 2 of the most effective smiting magics has recently been nerfed, making smite a little bit harder to solo with, and reducing the effectiveness of smite nuking in whole.

You guys are missing my point, I have never played an El/Mo smiter or in fact a smiter at all nor would I want to. I'm also aware that smiting has been weakened quite considerably. Bahamut Kaiser picked up on my point in his post when he mentioned that E/N Blood users could be superior to normal Blood Magic necros. That's the problem for me: From a storyline perspective Monks are the chosen servants of the Gods amongst humanity and this is represented by the fact that in general a monks heals (which are empowered by Dwayna) are more effective than a secondary monks heals, however from a storyline perspective, why shouldn't monks benefit from the fact that they are more blessed by the gods (DF) when using Smiting (empowered by Balthazar). The whole rune thing is just artificial. By the same token a necromancer, having devoted himself to the study of blood magics should be superior to an elementalist who's only using his primary to get energy storage and then is using necro skills otherwise.
Basically I would like to see more benefits to mainly using the attributes of your primary profession with the secondary being there for a supportive role (like the good ol' W/Mo, he's stabbing things, but he's doing it whilst healing himself). Smiting was just the example that wierded me out most so I thought that perhaps .25 extra damage per point in DF, (4 for 1) or something. I realise that I'm being overly anal about this but in all RPGs there must be a middleground between the background "fluff" as it were and the mechanics of the game.
I'm still not really satisfied with the clarity of my argument, but hopefully you can pick up what I mean more easily now.
