better than Ninjas
No, this isn't a plea for a ninja/assassin/thief/rogue class, but a compromise for the people who really want it.
How about this, when building a new warrior, for example, you'd have the option of going with a different "skin" with different animations (emotes, attack animations etc). So those folks who want to build an eastern-ish samurai or ronin have that option - but the skills and stats are identical to any other warrior....
Similarly, there could be a choice of skins for other professions as well.

I wholeheartily agree and support this. Dunno if it's been suggested already though and might be in the wrong section

I like this idea. I also like the Bard.
I've been thinking another way they could do it is to introduce specialization. Say perhaps each primary profession has two specialization options that open up a subset of new skills, armor and weapons available only to them. Warrior could become a Brawler (a la Little Thom), Barbarian, Samurai, Dragoon etc. You could of course change these as you can now change your secondary. One could create these specializations from the start or continue down the line with characters you already have, so that a W/R might become a Knight/Bard for example.

R/W with black dyed clothes and a spike axe sort of looks like a ninja.

That sounds like a good idea, that way people could have cool rouge-ish looking swordsmen/women and still be able to choose a secondary. (Other that R/W)

I think a full martial arts class is expected, many players want a new melee class, many players want to use dual wielding, and many players were originally expecting monk to be a martial arts class.
New proffessions have been slated, whether they will be ninjas or something totaly sideways of what we expected is the issue. If your uncertain of the installment of new proffessions then read Gaile Greys most recent interview with GameSpot, she clearly admits that new proffessions will be in the next chapter, as well, she also confirms the theme that classes are developed with cultural diversity so players from all around the world and all interests can relate and enjoy them.
So what do you want, and what can you get? Well, alot of the D&D fans and FF fans think such dual wielding class would be called Rouge or Thief, to which I say, too simular to ranger, with a different line up of skills. To have a totaly new and diverse class they will lean toward the eastern titles and away from the D&D cleche titles, aside from the fact that a rouge and ranger are almost identical in character.
As for having a brawler, samurai, or something narrower then ninja, a new class should have all of the martial arts under it's belt, not just dual wielding, or hand to hand. This is because a class should have several attribute options, just like any other class. Not just steriotypically, but in reality, Ninjas are the most diverse martial artists, and the most effective. They will use any move neccissary to get the job done, and execute them in stealth.
Ninja may be a bit to cleche for you, but any other idea is just as rehashed as this, and no other class could provide as much diversity in attributes or enjoyability to play then a Ninja class. My favorite alternative is Shinobi, the technical name for ninja, ninja is derived from ninjitsu, thier art. Assassin could pass, but just like thief, pirate, and rouge, it is a title that revolves around what your doing not what kind of combatant you are, any warrior, monk or elementist could be labeled a thief, rouge, or pirate if they live that kind of life style, the current pattern of names clearly titles the class based on what they are, not some Branded Co-sign. Dual wielding, katana wielding, diverse hand to hand, and stealth, all belong under Ninja, they would be out of place or thrown in under any other title, there is no escaping the versatility of that title.
If you don't like the idea of a ninja, then think of something better, because there will be a new proffession, can you offer something that would contribute half so much?

Nope. I can't say that I have any specific expectations of ANet for new classes.
One thing is for sure, whatever the new classes are, they'll definitely enrich the existing game rather than just lumping on new content like some others would.
GW has only very basic character classes because the developers gave a good deal of depth and variability to distinguish each one. I'm glad a "flare" isn't just an arrow that happens to do flame damage. I'm glad that there's a whole palatte of skills distinct for hammers, swords and axes.
I'm glad successful builds depends on a synergistic coordination of specific skills.
And that successful teams depends on a synergistic coordination of player builds.
Evidently you've put a lot of thought into your concept and I respect that. As much as I joke about it, I'd have nothing against a well-implimented martial-artist class. (The animation for wing chun or chin na would certainly be beautiful to see.)
My suggestion for skins doesn't necessarily conflict with yours. A martial-arts class can still have several different "skins" - from Japanese to Philipino to Chinese etc... (or some fantasy equivalent).

Come on everyone, I want to see a starcraft ghost, using nukes. And battle cruisers... oh we should have orcs....and and...RAMBO.
I would really like to see a lancer

We already have rambo. Only his name is Kilroy Stonekin. And he's a little shorter.
Seriously, though. Melee class. We don't need no stinkin' weapons!
We could also use a speed-based class. Physically weaker in offense and defense than standard warriors, but with the ability to hit and run, as well as dodge. I think that'd be pretty cool...

their should be like 2-6 sub-professions like ninja (assasin) brawler, fencer (lighter more agile, unique hit-and-run skills) , and for like monks zealots (basically tanks that use smiting spells) protectors (protection) healers (dif name and they heal) divine master (mixes all of them but less effective in healing, have unique grouping skill that casts 2 spells for the price of the higher cost 1) for necros death necro (hexes, curses, ) blood necros (health sacrificial health stealing curses) undead raisers (raise bone horrors, fiends, minions, monsters, and spiteful spirits). all of the subtypes would have unque skill set and would be more effective in their chosen skill.

This thought has been cookin in my noodle for a while as well.
Spears are a more prominent weapon in medieval times than the hammer was.
Imagine a class with pole weapon, longer range than a warrior's weapons but still technically melee. You could have skills that throw the weapon and turn it into a ranged weapon (leaving you without a weapon till you pull it out of your target)
