Some think it looks cool, for example on Male Warriors it they do. For others (Like many in this thread) it looks daft... and not everyone should be forced to wear one while being in a guild with good friends.

Yes yes. We should all be forced to wear silly hats in the game. No wait everyone should always wear a silly hat. Yes. The silly party is comming to power and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Really! Toggleable for the win! Don't let this thread die out yet... and I really hope A.net add this in so me and so many others can finally join a guild!

Your guild doesn't need to know you turned off the cape for youself. This is a way to identify OTHERS, not specifically to identify yourself.

So what if others see the cape. It wont' raise static with your guild mates since you won't be going around capeless, what some people might consider an affront to the group.

Perception is the key here. If you perceive yourself as walking around without a cape, then you're happy because you look the way they do, and your guild is happy since you still have the cape on in their eyes, which is pleasing for guild unity. No harm, no foul, nobody gets hurt.
That would make it utterly pointless.

By that logic we should all only have armor look different for ourselves and not to anyone else. Whats the point of changing your appearance if only you can see it? You might as well have no fashion sense in real life and just imagine yourself wearing the stuff you'd realy like. It's all perception right?

If only I would see myself without it would make me hate it even more because people don't see me how I want to be seen, which is the whole goddamn point. Any attempt to stand out would be moot. The perception argument falls flat on its face when you take into account that this is how you want to be seen by your friends and the public.

If your guild is angsty enough to throw a hissy-fit because you don't want to wear the cape then you probably shouldn't be there.

ANET Please let us know that you've seen this thread! I e-mailed their support team telling them that there's a bunch of these threads that discuss this idea and gave a bunch of links, and they sent me some automated e-mail reply saying that I should post my suggestions on a fansite forum.

Stupid automated e-mail. I am beginning to seriously doubt the claim that ANEt reads all of the posts in all of the fansite forums.

Most e-mail servers give auto-responce... give it time and you should get a human reply... give it 24 hours... failing that e-mail them again.

Yeah, I did get the automated e-mail first, and then I got the "real" one.

Go sit in the corner. You get detention for being rude. If you're so angsty to throw a hissy-fit because you are forced to wear a cape, leave your guild.

I had mentioned this in other forums as well -- I agree 100% "The cape really should be toggleable!!"

Furthermore, I will be honest and admit that YES, I am vain enough that I LEFT MY GUILD SO THAT I CAN LOOK AT THE BACK OF MY CHARACTERS! (having paid lots of gp for the armor, I figure I should see the WHOLE thing, rather than just the front).

Just a couple of points on why capes should be toggleable:

1) Fostering Guilds
A.net has consistently tried to foster cooperative play and the formation of guilds -- which I do like. However, certainly in my case, the fact that the cape is non-toggleable has a negative impact on my belonging to a guild.

2) Aesthetics
Think about it -- A.net put some effort into the design of the character AND the capes, including the animations, colors of the armor, etc. Why make it so that the players must only be able to see SOME OF IT?

3) Feasibility
I am a veteran software developer with 10+ years of experience, so I like to think that I do know about writing softwares...

I really do think that this is a straight-forward change. After all, the cape is taken away as soon as you leave a guild. So it really must simply be a variable somewhere that simply check to see if you are in a guild and then display the cape. The bigger change in the code would probably be an extra command (/togglecloak) that would need to set the above variable.

However, given that the guild dialog box already sets some guild settings, it might be that a check box to indicate whether you want to display the cloak or not there is sufficient.

In any case, I agree that in GvG battles, this setting should be over-ridden. However, in all other cases, this setting should take effect.

For sure, this in NO WAY would compare in complexity to some of the other things like adjusting drop rates or PvP reward system that Anet has done. So in that sense, if only enough of us want it, it could be done.

In short, this is a low cost feature for Anet that will please a great number of people (as this thread demonstrates).

Anyways, just want to toss in my $.02

Or do you seriously expect us to quit and rejoin everytime we want it on or off?

Also I'm not going to leave my awesome guild because my character looks goofy with their cape, no more than I'll join a guild just because it doesn't use capes. That's retarded.
LMAO! That such a contradicting comment...

I get people tell us all the time that our capes look pretty darn spiffy. (Well they do not use those terms ) We have a black cape with a silver cross in the middle. Looks really sharp with my silver dyed armor.

Same here for the most part! Here's the bottom line for all you contradicting complainers. If you want to be in a guild then you're going to have accept that a guild membership isn't some part-time job. If you don't like the cape speak up or ship out!

Just toggle capes on and off.
It would'nt take more than a couple days to implement.

Nor do Ice Cream Shoppes have to have ice cream. It just makes sense for an ice cream shoppe to have ice cream.

In a similar sense, it makes sense for a guild to have a guild hall

You, sir, use the far too often. I hereby ban you from using it for a week.

Agreed. But capes should remain as they are, and that's all i'm going to say on this matter. Have a nice day!
