probably cause its pathetically easy.
and yea someone said in a game thats theoretically 'based on skill not on hours played'.. the idea of a rank emote gained by slowly piling up fame is.... kind of not right.
maybe they do need to revamp the fame system....
wouldnt it be just funny if there was no rank 12? and anet was just too bitchy to tell anyone.. i would laugh at the guy with 15k fame if that was true...

IWAY is easy to beat. Only unexperienced people think they should nerf it cause they lose to it.

Don't nerf IWAY, leave it as it is. That way all the noobs can play their beloved build, and I'll just run in with my friends and pwn them all
Just to show how easy it is, I have a TRUE STORY
On October the 5th, there was a big server crash, and loads of people everywhere got Error 7. I was tombsing at that time, when 6 of my party members disconnect. So its just me and the monk. We just beat the ghosts, so we went the the Underworld, saw that we had 2 Mage Hench, 2 Healer Hench, 1 Fighter Hench and Archer Hench. Long story short, we fought our way up to the Courtyard (the 3 team Altar map with priests). Anyways, 1 team was Hench heavy, like us, and the other was a FULL IWAY team. They had all 8 players. We rushed altar, fought off the hench team, took out their Hero while the IWAY team ran around killing everyone's priest. The other hench team lost, so it was us, our 6 henchies, against the full IWAY team. They rushed us, we took out their hero, they lost. A full IWAY team lost to 2 real players and 6 henchmen. Haha.

ganksalot's real problem is...
i quote: "...I dont plan on spending hours and hours and hours just to find a group and get 0 or 2 morale and lose the first battle to some stupid IWAY group that formed in 30 seconds. It is an insult to my intelligence...."
no wonder he wants it nerfed...
he can't get past the first IWAY grp he meets, even if these IWAY grps were mindless and involved no strategy according to him...
hahahahahahaha...
how noobilar can that be...destroyed in the underworld by a no-strategy-hack-and-slash-mindless build...
u must suck big time

Go check page 3 of the ladder see my guild there, now having confirmed we are not n00bs (cause trust me we don't run iway in GvG).
I Have a sad message for you we run IWAY in tombs quite often, we defeat crappy other iway's with it, we've eaten that funny 6 necro build with it, and i laugh in the face of hexes, won and held halls with it and always we still run into something that manages to beat it.
So yes Iway is powerfull build, but only in the hands of capable players, total n00bs will never take iway to halls unless they get skipped there (and they'll loose). And Fame is non important it's about winning Halls and seeing your name there and about GvG and getting on top of the ladder. I'm pretty sure that non of the top players out there care anything about fame really, they care about winning and having fun doing so.
To me you sound like someone who's been beaten by iway a lot and is frustrated with it. Get over it.

Of course; of course. But many great players are not getting even close to being one of the "top players" thanks to the fame system throwing them back in the mud.
As has been said countless times; we KNOW IWAY's weak with those stupid PUGs playing it. It's simply better than a random blind invite group. And random blind invite groups are mostly the groups Rank 0 to Rank 2 people get in. They get beaten by IWAY (and NOT because they're bad; but because the only groups that accept them are disorganised groups filled with paladin Whammos who think they're here to tank), they don't get rank, they don't get good groups, they get beaten by IWAY, and so on...
Their own skill does not matter; people look at rank, which is a flawed measurement. It's not because they're bad; it's because everyone assumes that few fame = bad, so they get into bad groups exclusively (the ones with the players NO ONE wants, because they are indeed bad; the ones that don't plan or use over-simplified tactics such as: "All hit called target!")

Not entirely true, i got into to good groups when i was rank 0 as well, and i know for afact that there are good players out there who have know problems taking a r0 with them for as long as he can run what they want him too and can take orders.
Oh and everyone should have vent that alone will double your chances of getting into a group.

I've waited for hours trying to find a group, with NO ONE even considering me except Blind Invite groups. Now, I make my own groups (with much success); but not everyone is able to lead a group.
That said; IWAY's not the problem here. I've said it countless times and I'll say it again: it's rank elitism (we only take ranks 3+/6+/9+) and groups that don't review their players before invite.
And if you asked me to run what YOU want, I'd immediately leave your group. You can ask me if I can fill a function in the group, but if I answered to your offer (or the other way around if you answered to mine), it's because I am an expert at filling that function. It is very arrogant of you to believe you know how to do my job better than I. For instance, if the group leader told me: "Ditch Ice Prison; get Shard Storm instead.", I'd be laughing all the way to the "leave group" button. Now, if you asked for a Warder and I'm not running Ward against Harm, you'd be justified. But when you ask a healer and get a healer; it's very rude to tell him his job.
And you're right about Vent. I always open a Vent room somewhere for my groups; even if it's not used. I still take players that don't have Vent, but many good players will not enter groups that don't have it. It usually shows that there is a will to have some teamwork in the group.

if i see a rank 0 in a pug where everyone is at least rank 6 that person has either
1) slept with the leader of the group last night
2)knows some kind of dirty secret about the leader of the pug.
seriously no pug will take a rank 0 unless they know him personally or were forced too.
oh and to the other guy above me.... umm.... ive been leader of a bunch of groups, and in many cases i will tell people specifically what to run. in many cases they even ask me what they should take, but the reasoning is that they dont know what the other group is running, so if they went and made whatever they wanted it wouldnt work too well. like in your specific case, ice prison is removed if the dude takes fire damage... how do you know there wasnt a fire ele in the group? anyway thats the idea behind it. and normally, other than specifying elites and stuff, i dont touch other peoples builds unless theres something glaringly wrong or i want them to run a specific build. like if i go in tombs and i notice that ___ isnt doing his job, ill ask for his build and try to see if theres something wrong over there.
what REALLY pisses me off are people that just wont change a certain skill. and the times when i switch roles in a group and the guy who switched with me sucks in what i was doing

I have guildmates and run a guild where without vent, we still rock people to death...
[the only problem was telling teammates who to interrupt cause there wasn't a ctrl+click way to communicate it. Until now...!!! ]
Can anyone tell me what vent is needed for now? I can't tell...
There's hexes on you? Ctrl+click
You're hexing an enemy? Ctrl+click
You're moving to this position and using a trap? map ping, draw, ctrl+click
You're using enchantments on THIS teammate? Ctrl + Click
You're doing a combo of hexes? Ctrl + click
*the teammate you're doing the combo with should know this before the fight, good preparation beats in-game communication*
You're pinballing? Ctrl + Click, repeat
Enemy is using a skill you want stopped? Ctrl + click the skill up top YAYAY!!!!
Enemy is moving here? ctrl+shift+click, draw map, map ping...
Enemy is camping/guarding? ctrl+shift+click, map ping 2x
Multi-pinging codes and the like can REALLY save on teammate communication skills...
Want your teammates to move here? ctrl+shift+click, draw map, ping...
Want other half to move? repeat with other group, draw map, ping...
I honestly no longer see a use for vent since words can't be conveyed in the RAW detail that this game's "non type/speak" communication system is for...

While the Rank groups are a bit elitist, they do indeed work!
Fame is there to easily prove you have experience in the tombs, instead of the leader needing to activate a ward against noobs and question them on their build etc
Basically a rank groups works like this..
Need R3+ interupt mesmer
Mesmer joins and flashes his rank and then your ready to go, theres no questions like have u unlocked this skill yet or whats ur skillbar etc
Not sure im making sense here but in short Rank3+ shows experience in tombs, doesnt matter if its from iway or guild or random team. A R3+ player in GENERAL is gonna know the maps, alter, relic etc and he will listen to the leader.
Instead of taking away fame maybe make all PVP Character UAS, cos most new people dont have most skills unlocked and therefore are limited to playing 1 character only hence why iway is so prevelent.

Maybe I'm not understanding something here since I haven't been doing PvP that long. If you make it to rank 3 exclusively with an iway warrior, then delete that character and make a mesmer for the first time, then aren't you basically a newb mesmer with a +3 rank? So, the ranking system only shows you have experience playing some of the maps, but not that you necessarily have experience at any specific build since you can change your character an infinite number of times. It's really silly to even judge based on rank, it would make more sense if you could judge based on the amount of experience a person has with a specific build imo.

how are you going to judge based on experience on someone you don't know, i could have made a mesmer in a week and be in tombs or use a pvp character and say i have a lot of experience with mesmer, whats to stop a player from lying that they're experienced to get into a group

Well, you can just call me GW's biggest 'ho, then. My 2nd account is regularly taken into groups of both r3+ and r6+ players. Sometimes I already know the leader, sometimes I don't. Some of them know I am on a 2nd account and my primary is an r5, some don't know until we're well into the round and they think to ask me what rank I am. (BTW, that skill Flirt....is awesome! )

Exactly. I got to r3 on air spike and smite. I got from r3 to r5 almost purely on prot monk & lingering curse necro. Am I qualified to run a good shut-down mesmer? Hell no! I prefer to stick with what I know. I am good at lingering, prot and wards. I am capable of running a ranger interrupt spiker, but I suck at target calling. I rock at prot but bite at healing. Asking me to heal is like signing your own suicide note. Quite frankly, I don't care to learn to heal properly in PvP. There are plenty of healers out there. The current system, however, just shows that I have a rank of 3-5, 6-8, 9-11 and etc. It doesn't show you how I got it. It doesn't tell you if I am capable of running build X that you need. You have to rely on my honesty in that. And we all know everyone's completely truthful on the internet, right?!?!?

People with the rank 3 title should know that going into tombs with a brand new builds isnt a good idea.
I always test the at TA with my guild or at Competative Arena.
