Default PvP weapon/item stats

sugg: give PvP only characters the ability to choose the statistics of the weapon/item they are using, not just a choice of a few decent ones.

ANet has said that in PvE it is supposed to be difficult to find the exact thing you are looking for - ie. if you want to find a:

insightful smiting staff of enchanting
energy +10 (req 8 smiting)
energy +5
enchantments last 20% longer
improves skill recharge 10%
improves casting speed 10%

you would really have to go looking for it, and even then get incredibly lucky (probably shelling out 100's of thousands of gold too). This plays to the vanity aspect of PvE too, since having that very special item makes you uber leet (or having FoW armor or whatever you use to individualize yourself). But for PvP everyone is supposed to get a fair shake - you can unlock things so once you have unlocked it, you can use it forever. But PvE items are still better than PvP, because the items and weapons you get to choose from for PvP have only a limited set of bonuses, while with PvE theoretically it is possible to get anything, from gems to junk.

What I suggest is to be able to unlock these modifiers for weapons in PvP with faction. Like with all unlocking, you can easily unlock the most common "best" ones that oyu use often first, and then unlock all of them in time. It would give people with 10,000 faction and nothing to spend it on something to spend it on, plus it would even out the benefit of PvE items to just aesthetics instead of benefit too, which it seemed like ANets goal was in the first place.

The way I would do it would be that you would choose the weapon you want - ie. shield. Then you would get to choose 2 modifiers from a list of things like "-2 dmg (stance), -3 dmg (hexed), quick recovery from blind" etc, just like is possible to get with PvE shields. It would be just like choosing the weapon/item mods, except you are choosing the stats too, in addition to any possible mods (if that item can get mods). This means instead of just getting a smiting staff with +20% smiting recharge and smiting casting speed, you could choose it to be whatever you want. This would also make the list of items shorter since you dont need to scroll through all the items and their various stat combinations, you can just pick the one you want, then pick the stats you want. Of course each item only has the stats that are possible for it (ie. you cant put +20% illusion recharge on a healing staff). Since there are so many items to unlock these things for too they should be cheap - maybe 100 to unlock a less than perfect, and 200 to unlock a perfect.

This was left in the PvE world for a reason. That reason is so that PvE players can gain weapons that are different, and sometimes suited much better toward their build, such as dmg always weapons. They were put in PvE to allow PvE the option to have different weapons that PvP players cant have, just like better looking armor and weapons.

But with armor the stats are the same, that 15k armor is no better than the 1.5k armor which is the same as the pvp armor, they just look different. With the weapons, pve weapons are statistically better than the pvp ones, which makes no sense to me, they should be equal. Bows in pvp don't get any stats besides one dmg mod, but in pve they do. The difference should be looks only, not how good something actually is.

i think your fogeting that guild wars started off as you had to go through pve to get anything worth while in pvp. i don't like the fact they changed that if you want a better weapon or support items than go looking for it .the pvp and pve don't need anymore seperation you ppl are trying cut guild wars in half and your dam well seceding.guild wars was ment to be one game not freaking 2 if you want that perfect weapon or support item get your butt in pve and get to looking like the rest of us.further more if your to lazy to go out and hunt for the item you want you shouldn't be playing any mmorpgs.

you have it right to a point. GW was ment to combine both aspects, but i think you have it backwards to a point. PVP characters were designed to have the top end skills, weapons, armor, etc.... than the PVE players. thats why you can build a lvl 20 pvp char with all att points, max armor, and all skills/max weapons/modifiers that youve unlocked currently. You cannto say the same thing about a pve char.

Things were left for PVE only like fissure of woe/uw/15k armors for the PVE players to have something special that seperated them from the pvp players as they have to go and level and work to be able to get those where as a pvp player(if they had it) could just go to the creation menu to get it.

To the OP, there are much better items available in pvp character selection than the one you listed.

you obviously need too go back and look att the weapon sleection/creation in pvp chars. all the staff heads and wrappings, the sword hilts and pommels, axe hafts and grips, etc.... are available to pvp chars as well. you have to select them to add them to the current weapon.

aka the 10/10 staff you mentioned. ok i can get a staff JUST like that but with 20/20 on a pvp char for free. in PVE with a 20/20 staff like that, youll spend close to 400k for it.....

be glad you get all that guild wars spoils the pvp players. if this was any other mmorpg you'd have to start at lvl 1 like the rest of us and it's true if you hunt hard enough. you can find much better weapons and supports in pve than the ones in pvp.
