Guildwars In-Game Notepad Function Suggestion
This was brought up earlier, however, I thought I'd bring it up with a more broad base of functionality seeing as I really do believe it would be a great new feature.
Basically, the idea is for an In-game notepad. Ideally, just a blank, window opened through Menu or a Short-cut key which you can type whatever you like on. It would have decent space in it, perhaps 30 lines at a width of 50 characters? I don't know so much on that aspect, but, something large enough to put down a good chunk of information, but not too big as to become massively resource draining.
Some functions I've found for it so far:
-) Collectors/Items. I really dislike running into Collectors, not having the items, then finally, two missions later, having enough, but forgetting which collector wanted what in the first place, and which items I wanted from them in the first place.
(Side-note. A pop-up of item stats when you have gathered enough items would be nice. Sometimes I have no flippin' clue what the item stats are seeing as I talk to the collector and already have all the items and I'm already able to pick from a non-detailed list.)
-) Strategy. It would give people a place to make note of some basic strategies for Missions/Bonuses/PvP, etc.
-) Things to do. So often I find myself bogged down with Quests/etc finding myself just wishing I could write up a quick, referenceable list saying "These Quests can all be done here, etc." Sort of like a "plan" or "goal" list.
-) Possibly help note those people you want to report for whatever reason.
-) Keep track of which items are on which Characters. I've wound up nearly pulling my hair out switching between accounts 3 or 4 times to find one item.
-) Make a quick list of Elite monsters/areas, or a checklist of which you still need and where you can find them.
These are just a few examples I've thought of, there are really a plethora of uses this would have. Granted, I do understand you may say, "Why not stop being a lazy arse and write it down with pen/paper?" And the answer is that Typing goes by MUCH quicker and more efficiently than writing, not to mention it saves a tree in the process. Notepad isn't as efficient nor functional either, especially for those who play fullscreen.
I am unsure of the resources needed to implement such a feature, however, I feel it'd have a great many uses with very few, if any, downsides. (Please post negatives as you think of them. Good to know the problems so we can think of possible solutions.)
What do you guys think?
(Ideally, there would be one notepad per account, meaning each Charwindow would open up the same notepad.)

Love the idea...right now, I have a piece of paper on my desk that I use for notes, but an in-game notepad would be a great improvement

Wasn't there some kind of notepad function during the beta? Wonder why it was removed it.
This would be handy I will say, plus to save on server bandwidth the information of the notepad could be kept locally on our comptuers
Now I know some dude(s) may as "Why don't you just use the Windows one?"
Well because not everyone... me included likes to have to alt-tab out each time I want to jot something down.

Since GW is the only game I know which runs ok in Windowed mode... you can understand why run ALL my games in fullscreen.
Besides windowed mode looks ugly

Aye, and they could save server processing them and resorces by keeping the flags on a file local to our machines.

I'd love an in-game notepad. Right now I have numerous pieces of paper scattered around my desk with quests that I've done, collectors that I've "completed" and things that I have left to do. Heck, my Pre-Searing notes just keep on expanding (I started over with a new character and I wanted to write down every quest that I did, just so that I have a record).

It's got my vote. I hate having to go to Window mode to make notes. Especially since I only have a 15" monitor... Plus, I have a hard time keeping track of where the information is in my notebooks, since I record other stuff in them, too. A rudimentary search function in the in-game notepad could help.

it would definately help out.... especially if a team had a shared notepad as well, so you could write things like "Don't kill those monsters that appear when we get the bonus, they have to open doors so we can actually GET the bonus" because, well, people just start smacking shit up when they see critters :S

I'd personally love to put details on the main map, that could be accessed by clicking on any area and inserting a "post it" note there.

How about actual scrolls in the game, on which you can write, not like the ones already implemented. This way you can also share information.

As long as each note didn't take up my inventory space, I can dig it... how about just have a log book which we can write things in and add notes for other into it?
Think like the Dairy from Bolder's Gate.

Notepad or log book would be great addition, and I don't think it would be too hard to make either.

I'll be the only bad bubble in the group, but I would just find a notepad feature just not that helpful. The average computer user should by rights (at least at this point in time) own a 17" monitor if they play more than... I'd say 3 hours or more a day, AND has an income. The kiddies I could understand how they are stuck with tiny things.
I always play every game windowed, so notepads aren't a problem. I saw someone say something about an ugly game while windowed? I'm not sure how its ugly looking really (unless they are running on the smallest resolution ever). You do know you can just pull the entire windowed version of the game to match the same size as your normal resolution? Maybe leave an extra bit at the bottom to click on the notepad in the taskbar? Since you can auto-hide the taskbar, it will give you even a little more room for your window resizing.
I am keen on the idea of having a map to mark up. That would be quite useful. So many times I forget where things are. @_@

My comment is the fact that in window mode, we take windows XP for example the window border looks rubbish with the rest of the games colours.
On the note my game runs on a 1280x1024... on a nice LG TFT screen, so lets not insult my PC please.
I just think having an internal game would with streamline the whole thing, why should I have to play a game in window mode just to view stuff?
The contents of the notepad could be kept locally on the clients computer. So there is really no reason for it to even take up server resourses.
