More things to do with guilds!
Okay, we hopefully all know that this game is called GUILD Wars, my problem, or actually, my issue, is that when i read about the guilds in the GW setting the guild we have as players don't live up to my vision of them, not nearly.
Guilds here are about as complex as in any MMO while it should be far more complex or else i wonder why the game was dedicated to guilds and does nothing to improve the general idea of them. We simply need more options and complexity.
For example, you could capture cities and gain a share of money from the merchants, this would actually give you some goals besides that #1 with your guild name besides it.
And why the heck do we have the same amount of space to type something as in WoW? We should a rules page(speaks for itself) and maybe a place where everyone can write something about theirselves so you can get to know each other a bit, a page for various builds that people are using and what the current GVG team build is(if there is a standard GVG team, that is)
Anyone who shares this point of view?

Although I do agree Guild Wars lacks on the guild related activities I don't agree that guilds should take over settings. Did you consider the consequences of this change towards the lore? The chosen group up to save ascalon from an evil race only to turn around and destroy it themselves? Although I do agree that these situations happen in real life I highly doubt it would fit this fantasy setting.

Guild is very weak....
I have few ideas for guilds, guild halls, and such... but haven't have the time or the effort to put them down in words yet.....

Has anyone seen how Clans work in Lineage II? I loved that.... you could own castles, take taxes from the nearby village, and raid then steal castles from other clans . "Castles" sound a little boring and medieval though... the islands are fine, but it'd be interesting to be able to do more with them.

that would be swell if GW had castles, towns, and other castles anywhere even REMOTELY associated with this game. but alas, they dont thank god.
Although i do feel that they should have guild quests or something of the sort that you can only go get from a person in your guild hall. kind of like a Fow or UW where once you have a full group at your hall, youre taken to where youre assistance is needed.

I like your idea on guild quests. I'd also like ANet to explain the "role" of guilds in Tyria. I've never fought in the hall of heroes but what happens when you win? Are you acknowledged by the gods like during the ascension or what? I can understand how a guild would form together during the process of finding a new homeland but I don't understand their function in end game.
I see Guild Wars as a medieval/fantasy version of Battlestar Galactica hehehe.

Guilds in Guild Wars serve as a gathering of friends under the same banner. If your guild wins the hall of heros then it says "your guild has won a battle in the hall of heros and keeps the favor....." They also serve to test your guild cohesiveness against other guilds.
go to www.guildwars.com and i believe there is a history and lore page (or somethign like that) which telsl you the lore and history of Tyria and Guilds and the Guild Wars.

I know what a guild is... And no the lore page doesn't really explain the role of guilds in the world of Tyria, it has the lore of Tyria. I think you misunderstood what I meant.

The Guild Wars were a series of battles between rival guilds, which is what happens in Guild Battling. I see no problem.
Guild Wars is not 100% about guilds. Who cares? World of Warcraft has more than one world! Let's cry about it!
