if you guys haven't noticed guild wars is losing players due to the lack of fun things to do. you can only do so much battling befor it getings boring and repetitive .you could have millions of skills and still sooner or later everyone will have their builds and it will become repetitive again.
this post is basicly asking for something to do other than the repetitive and supposedly skillful battling
if you ask me once you get your build set up it is no longer based on skills it's based on timing and luck

Since my previous post was deleted for too much PvE hate, I will repeat: Guild Wars is not an MMORPG, it is a Competitive Online RPG. Emphasis on Competitive (aka PvP).

Here, I'll quote the Guildwars website (the official website of the game, if that wasn't clear) for your reading pleasure:

Rather than labeling Guild Wars an MMORPG, we prefer to call it a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game).

That was pretty slick. And you are correct in saying that this is not WoW. But I feel that Guild Wars is still a pve game even if some of you refuse to believe it. There are alot of people who aren't big fans of PvP, and besides killing monsters, there isn't much for those people to do. I don't understand why people are opposed to this idea. For all you PvPers, if you don't want to fish, then don't. I just think many people out there would appreciate some new recreational activities.

Why are you people complaining about these add ins? If you don't like it DON'T DO IT its not really that hard. If you dont' like it you don't have to mine or fish. Just leave people that want variety alone. Also if you read that paragraph a bit more Obberius you'll find it says this:

Guild Wars is a mission-based game set in a stunning 3D fantasy world that offers excellent support for guilds.

Mission-based... think about it.

Errr... I hit my level cap for a PvE character months ago, and I'm still not finished with the story aspect of the game. Guild Wars PvE isn't about leveling to max. It isn't about hunting for better weapons and armor either. Rather, the game is about fighting with skill. It's like playing sports. It's not really about hunting for the best shoes or the best gloves. It's about how well you play, and having fun while doing it. As such, PvP is a large aspect of the game, and if you plan on avoiding it, you'll be missing out. Whether you like it or not, Guild Wars is about competition against others. (It's called Guild Wars, and not Ascalon Nights: Hordes of the Charr for a reason.) =D
I agree, trade skills don't really belong in Guild Wars. It's meant to be an accessible, fun online game that tests a player's skills in combat. The level cap is so low for a reason - you are not meant to invest endless amounts of time in order to achieve something. While I love the idea of trade skills, professions, and essentially an online life, this does not belong in Guild Wars. A game cannot strive to do everything, and should maintain a proper focus. (There's a reason you don't see real time strategy games let you customize the faces, hair, and sizes of the units.) The focus of Guild Wars is on skill-based fighting. All the weapons, armor, and items you need are provided by NPCs or given to you. Having players craft the exact same things is at the least needlessly redundant, and at the worst grind-intensive and completely against the spirit of the game.
Now, I understand many have expressed the opinion that crafting and other trade skills would provide a useful diversion, though it may be completely optional. This could be done, for example, by allowing people to craft items that are utterly mediocre and useless, no matter how much practice one puts into crafting. The question, then: What do you do with mediocre and useless items? Sell them? Selling them would be a source of steady, undisruptable income that can be considered a kind of grinding, much like farming. (Farming, however, at least requires some semblance of fighting skill and knowledge of the proper usage of one's build.) If not sell them, what do you do with them? Trash them? If you eliminate any source of material gain, it becomes little more than a time-intensive emote.
On the subject of emotes, I see no problem with having a fishing emote. Hell, if you can dance mindlessly for hours on end, why not fish? It's a nice diversion for the easily amused. The second you give fishing a material gain and make it a trade skill, however, you've introduced an element of grinding into the game. If the fish you got gave you health when you ate it, then all of a sudden it would be a competition to see who can get the most fish and who fishes the longest, rather than who plays the best. Putting up a large catch on display in a guild hall, however, seems perfectly harmless. It's customization, and an inevitable part of an RPG is customization.
On the topic of customization, the idea of crafting jewelry and other purely-for-display trinkets has come up. While nice, it should be a skill every character should have equally with the same minimal amount of time commitment. This would mean, however, that everyone can craft the same things, and there would be no incentive whatsoever to buy from someone else. In other words, it pretty much boils down to what everyone does right now with their armor: they gather materials for it and have a piece of armor made out of it. The only difference is technically the NPC crafter is crafting the armor for you, and he charges a hefty sum of gold doing so. Otherwise, you can think of getting armor as crafting! The moment you give people the ability to make a higher quality product with more time invested, you open the game up to grinding, which is what Guild Wars is NOT about.

Not hop on see if you can get that nice 300 in armorsmithing. This isnt WoW if you want item grinding WoW is your place to go.

What is with you ppl? I mean it doesn't take much to figure out that if you don't like it, YOU DON'T HAVE TO FISH. People just want more variety, it won't affect you then don't complain, simple. If it were something that was going to majorly affect the gameplay for everyone it would be ok.

Something I would like to see is like a hunting feature. I mean it allows us to kill animals, but what if they dropped some kinda food that you could use in a pinch for like a quick health boost you know. Something while fighting and you get low on life you can just click up your inventory and duoble click on it per say and it would give you a boost. Also, with this fishing ordeal, lets say they do the same thing to it. You catch a fish, put it in your inventory, and when you need a quick boost click on it and gives you a bit of life. Now thats what i call quality entertainment there, lol.

I thought GW was a 'Competitive Online Role-Playing Game'. Why not extend the role-playing aspect by adding fishing, crafting, etc? As long as it's optional and doesn't affect PvP.

There are plenty of pve centered (grind) MMOs on the market which have pvp as red headed stepchild afterthought. There are only a couple of pvp centered MMOs on the market where pvp is the primary focus. GW is one. Please stop trying to change the focus of GW into something that is already done over and over in other games. No game can be all games to all players. Sorry to be blunt but adding fishing and crafting, etc to GW is a stupid idea.

If they threw-in fishing, I'd try it out... or anything else, really (hunting, blacksmithing, w/e).... nothing wrong with a little diversity, and if the powers that be decide to toss in something new from time to time, why complain about it? If it doesn't affect you, why throw a hissy-fit? It's not like you're going to see people fishing in guild battles, or hunting in HoH....
