Duelling
Some people think duelling would be a bad idea, but, I do not understand why...
Here are my suggestions...
No loot should be lost from losing a duel, however bets could be made if aggreed upon. (This would be an implemented part of the game otherwise scams could occur).
Both duelists would see the other persons duelling rank(yes, i just made that up, but it would be good to have one) and class, then they both say howmuch they wish to bet on the duel, with 0g being one of the choices.
The actual bet amount is the lowest bet from either person. Lets say player1 bet 50g that he would win, and player2 bet 5k that he would win, both players would then bet 50g (as it is the lower of the 2 bets) and the winner takes home 100g (his own 50g and his opponants 50g).
You would be able to challenge anyone to a duel, as long as the person you are challenging has the "Duel" option ticked, this would be found in the friends list, much like the status options (e.g. you can be away, busy, offline, online, now you will have a box next to that one giving you an option of duelling on or off).
If your duelling is set to on, then at anytime in a town you can be challanged to a duel by another player, which you then have the choice of accepting or declining. This would look much like the trade window popup you get just before you actually start to trade with somebody.
If somebody has duelling turned on then there will be a small symbol above their head so that everyone knows you accept duels.
I am undecided on whether you should to let your opponant see your duel rank before he accepts the fight.
Comments/Criticisms Welcomed, and a /signed for implementaion into chap 2 would be appreciated!

I like the idea but all the same I would rather that when you accept a duel you are transported to a small arena somewhere or you can go to another arena where you can be randomly paired up with other duelers of your own level- you should earn faction too

Oh yeah...Fame means nothing here,dude...
Dueling is not about faction points,or other arenas, but about the player testing his skill versus another of supposedly equal or greater skill.Being moved to another local is fine, but the greatest duels are the ones in the center of towns. This should be left to the high ranked(famous) dueling combatants. Like samurai in feudal Japan, some battles where started right then and there, while others were scheduled for a later time and place.Rivalries between friends would definitely begin, and of course, duels between Guildmates would have to be allowed.Wanderers strolling into towns, pwning the greatest fighters in the most famous Guilds in a1 on 1 confrontation...that's the kind of action for me. PvE is cool,PvP team fighting is great as well, but nothing will tell you where your build stands and your true skill like a 1 on 1 confrontation. I'm all for that.

I've met quite a few kiddies who kept whispering me for "1v1" after I commented on their skill. I wasn't quite sure how they wanted to accomplish this so I guess they would be happy if "dueling" was implemented.

just a little funny thing i found a while back, thought id bring it up. If you go to the news archives on the main GW website, and go to the fathest back possible, and see their first summary of GW, you will see this.
Quote:
In many online games, you’re forced to deal with player killers whether you want to or not. In Guild Wars, the way you play will be your choice alone. If you wish to engage in cooperative quests and fight against the world’s monsters and the elements of nature it will be up to you. If you want to engage in a one-on-one duel, or hook up for a team-versus team game, you can make that choice too. Backstabbing won’t leave you with a dead character and a stripped corpse.

funny how this has yet to be implemented.....

Please use the search button and read the stickied index thread before posting. We already have threads about dueling and different ideas surrounding the idea, please don't go posting another thread about it even though your idea might have a slight change to the general suggestion as a whole.
The "Official" dueling thread can be found here.
