Lightbulb Guild Wars In-Game Player Mods

In the past, many games have entitled players with good backgrounds on their game, as well as a history of enforcing the rules on other players as 'player mods'. These player mods would not be payed, but would have the ability to send priority violation reports to administration of the game. Usually these players would have some sort of symbol to the left of their name when they talk in chat, and the symbol would be a different color for game staff accounts. Eg. a silver crown for player mods, and a gold crown for game staff.

I have noticed much of this rulebreaking on Guild Wars, and I have tried to report the more serious ones when I have the time. I also believe that player mods around the game would minimalise the rulebreaking very quickly, letting new players be aware of scammers, reporting players who mispell vulgar words intentionally to avoid the chat filter, and much more. Has Guild wars considered player mods, and if so, will they be put into place?

I understand what you're saying and why. And I'm not saying you are wrong.

Instead I am offering a possible downside to this, think of all the officious people you see in a game like this. If you're in a mission these people tell you just how it is done. If you're in PvP they order you to follow their tactical lead. When you're in a town, they offer their comments on the trading and spam - sometimes correctly, sometimes not.

They're a minority but - because of their bossy ways - they do tend to stand out.

Think of the horror if some of these people became in game moderators. A position like this might attract people who have very little power or control in real life and turn them into little tyrants. And if ANet spent the time it would take to separate the petty tyrants from the genuinely concerned players (and I'd sure put you in that category, don't get me wrong) it would end up taking more manhours than simply doing the job themselves.

I'm not knocking your idea or even saying that it is a bad one. I'm just thinking that a cadre of these volunteer mods could end up being much more annoying than the violations that they would be intended to enforce.

aww.. the all mighty Mods. (like pie)

The game is not a monthly fee base game, so they are not force to upkeep and mod their game if they choose (since you pay just for what it is out of the box). However, beside in the shape of frog or Galie, I am sure some devs still go "under cover" sometime to try out their creation. It might be nice to see them dress a bit differnly, so flood of player can bug them to no end.

As for volunteer mod, a way for player to maintain it self, while sounds good, there is always the fear of it being abuse (like Pie ). Afterall, people pay to buy the game, and I am sure they don't want just anyone judging them in what they do. Heck, imagin if I got made a mod! (ban stick everywhere, bribe me to let you get away with scamms, roll back everyone.. Muahaha)

Thus I cann't think of any easy solution. But maybe a Player Status/Info box will help...

I personally would hate this idea. How do I put this: Not everyone has the best -- judgement to decide upon official action. For example, (in my opinion) some mods on this site do good for this site. However, I would hate to see their moderation power extended to In-Game. To moderate a fan-site is one thing. To extend that to an actual game, and I think that'd create huge problems. I know some ppl arent saying as much, but just on laws of probability, im sure there are more than several ppl here who dont like certain mods on here.

IMO -- this would not be a good idea to implement. Keep it to the Game Devs to control the game.
