There are no missions where it is important to skip because of tactical reasons. I beat the whole game without skipping a cinematic. Of course now I skip them every time, but there is no reason to make new players miss the storyline.
Bad idea.

i agree with you in principle Mandy, however i know exactly what the original poster means. I can remember watching one cutscene and thinking "i'm sure i can see a minotaur there" and i could definately hear it. Low and behold, when the cutscene finished we had 4-6 dead people. Think it was a desert mission

No matter what they impliment, it is absolutely impossible to skip a cinematic. If you bring only 6 people in the group, only 5 of them will choose to skip. If you bring only 2 people, even if it's a friend whome you've asked to skip... somehow it will only be 1/2 that skips. Maybe you forget to skip or something. And if it's just you and you bring henchmen, I dunno... somehow it will happen.
Honestly, I see absolutely nothing wrong with people who want to see the whole thing. Let's not deprive them of that.
On the other hand, I do understand what you're talking about by "tactical reasons." If you don't skip, your necro's minions will die. If you don't skip, your bond monk will lose all his mana and half his enchantments. If you don't skip, those minotaurs you ran past will beat the living snot out of you. If you don't skip, that ele who just got poisoned and is almost dead cannot get a heal or cure from the monk.
I brought this up in another thread somewhere. I forget where exactly and I'm too stoned right now to figure out a simple mechanic like the "Search" function. But anyway, I'll conclude here what I did there, and that is that there is nothing wrong with cinematics, except when they do harm to your group's success.

What about if when you skip the cinematic, you go back to the game, but the people that dont skip continue watching the movie. Like when you would enter in Heroes Ascent and they show you a small clip about the area you enter. They let you skip while the others continue watching.

Well, what about mid-mission cut scenes? Those are the biggest cluprets. Those are the ones that are more important to skip.

I almost did once. After the cutscene was over, only a handful of us were alive and only just.
Even if it doesn't usually fail a mission, it is an inconvenience that should be addressed. The necro had 20 minions... someone failed to skip the cinematic, now he has 4 barely alive minions. How long will it take him to build all of that up again?
My monk (which I usually play as a bonder) may be maintaining 7 enchantments when the cutscene hits. If that cinematic isn't skipped, the energy degen will drop my energy to 0 and half the enchantments will be removed. When the game starts back up, I am at 0 energy and have to recast enchantments which cost 10-15 energy each. Now I have to make my party wait.
I'm not against cinematics, but why can't they freeze certain things while they're playing?

i like the idea of putting the cutscenes in some sort of menu this way you can unlock them when you done the mission, i just dont like waiting a lot when i have seen the scene 3 times already
I dont want people to not be able to see them at all but putting the scenes in a menu would be great

Anet NEEDS to pause the game during cutscenes so players don't get tooled on and minions don't degen. Nobody should have to miss out on content that they paid for for the good of the party.
I think it is incredibly rude to ask others to skip the cutscenes when some may not have seen them yet. In fact this bothers me so much that if there is no fighting and no minions, I always watch the cutscenes when people ask to skip them because they are being so obnoxious.
Anet should leave the skip button there, but get rid of the "7 out of 8 players want to skip" message so the one guy who hasn't seen it yet doesn't have to feel pressured.

The only thing about skipping that really annoys me is being stuck watching the end-of-mission cutscene. Half the time I don't even want to stay in the group, but I'm still forced to sit around twiddling my thumbs instead of getting on with whatever I want to do.

I'd say 99% of the time, the screen reads , "7/8 want to skip the movie"
Also, there are a lot of issions where it is very important to skip for tactical reasons. It can even make the difference between life and death of a group.

'Inconsiderate'? Well wow, what about people who haven't seen it before, I bet when you first played the game and wanted to watch Cinematics, there were plenty of players who wanted to skip.
/NOT SIGNED.
Of course I skip Cut Scenes now, but if there's players who don't want to skip, fine by me.
And being killed in a cinematic is a BUG - which needs to be fixed. *Hint hint ArenaNet...*

If anyone is inconsiderate it is the person wanting to be able to charge out of a cutscene with no regard to those wishing to view it.
I think monsters should be frozen during cutscenes, and minions should have their degen timers shut off.
No to forced cutscene skipping.

I think its VERY inconsiderate of you to feel that you should be allowed to make them skip something perhaps THEY have not seen yet? After all we all played through the mission for the first time at some point and I can assure you I watched every cutscene my first time through.

The only way I would insist on skipping a cutscene is if the group was being attacked or the request was made by an MM so that his army didn't die during it.

are you refering to the inconsiderate jerks who have paid for the game and really want to see what happens as part of the game they paid for?
and the very considerate people who yell insults/obscenities at you for trying to enjoy the full game the first time through.
i forgot....my bad.....you are all old pros who didnt bother to watch it the first time (most of the yellers) so why should someone hold you back for a few minutes of your precious time?
