Rune and Weapon Mod Collectors
This game claims that everyone is on equal footing, regardless of time played. Should this not be true for PvE also? I've played this game since release. Yet the only superior absorbtion rune I've ever had drop with my name on it was about a month ago, which got hacked shortly thereafter.
I strongly believe adding Weapon Mod and Rune Collectors would help to lessen the grind of the PvE aspect of the game and put everyone on equal footing regardless. I believe this is more important now than ever before with the up-and-coming release of Factions, which will have a lot more competitive/PvP based combat in the PvE game.
I'm well aware that many will disagree because they feel this would hurt certain aspects of the economy, but I'm hoping they will also remember Guild Wars motto (the very reason I bought this game, along with others), You'll prove your worth with battle as skill, not hours played, decides your fate.
I expect a wellargued discussion. Please, all those who oppose and all of you whoagree, speak your mind in an intelligent, thought out way.

As long as those same runes can't be sold to the traders, i like it. As well as the runes being say customised, so can't be sold to others early on, making some people very rich. Make the items reasonably hard to get in at least of a quantity of say, 3=minor, 5=major, 8=superior.

Furthermore, I also feel there should be a collector for every weapon/shield/foci that PvP players have readily available, such as a 15^50 axe and the new 20/20 shield.
I'm suprised this was not done sooner.

I support this. That way we can may perfect items through collectors and lower the general pricing of things.
Perhaps collector's mods on collector's weapons yield a different color/skin like dark blue or something. XD
EDIT:
I love my collector's stuff (desert/S. shiverpeaks):
trucheon, cesta, 20/20 necro focus (blood)
earth wand, air wand, 20/20 earth focus, 20/20 air focus
...trying to get 20/20 healing

I'd sign for this as long as it were extremely difficult. MORE DIFFICULT THEN FARMING.
1. To keep the economy at balance
2. If it were more difficult but more entertaining, that beats farming anyday so the real players would go for collector mods instead of buying mods.

All equipment readily available for PvP only characters, should be available for PvE characters as well, through collectors.

Well, in Perdition Rock, you can trade in Mahgo Claws, Seared Rib Cages for high level scrolls.
I don't see any harm in adding in collectors for
- Runes
- Weapon Upgrades
- anything else readily available in PvP character creation, but not yet available from collectors

It sounds like Nevin disagrees with it, even though he thinks he agrees. (I was a bit confused by his post.)
I certainly agree. It's much too hard as it stands to make an "RP" character PVP-ready.

Well, I think Nevin was suggesting that the monster parts for these new collectors ought to be hard to obtain, in order to balance the economy.
For example:
- bleached shells
- frozen bleached shells
- any other monster parts that is hard to obtain
Note: Bleached Shells from Sand Wurms in the Crystal Deserts are not considered to be "hard to obtain" anymore, but merely time consuming
A lot of monster's parts goes uncollected, for example:
- Mursaat Tokens
- all the monster parts in UW, FOW
Perhaps add these collectors in UW or FOW, and these collectors collects monsters parts of UW and FOW, then people will have other reasons to visit UW or FOW.

/signed. And long overdue too. But there needs to be some limiting factors to who can get what, to prevent zones becomeing overpopulated with NPCs.
How about just adding 2 NPCs to a certain zone, like Talus or Mineral Springs. 1 NPC is a Rune Collector, giving superior runes out to each class, but only to the class you are playing when you taklk to him. Same goes for mods. We see something simular with armor collectors; they can only give you the armor for the character you are playing but they are still quite useful to have around. Add 1 more NPC in UW/FoW for Superior Vigor as suggested above, but lets not make this too hard; the idea (I think) is to make it possible for anyone to get a good weapon/rune without killing themselves in the process (and that includes newbs).
That way, we only end up with 6 new NPCs to track down in Tyria: the superiors in Shiverpeeks (or stick witht fire island so people have to work to get there), minors in Ascelon and Majors in the Jungle and their respective 5% chance, 10% chance 20% chance collector alts in simular locations.
But that might not work in certain situations, like if you're building a N/Me who needs both Blood and Domination (it could happen) mods on a certain item.
Another way to handle the mod situation might be to have a new crafter placed in cities, like armor crafters and weapon crafters. Just bring the raw materials (and a little money) and viola. 20/20 Divine/prot staff you make yourself
The real problem is, or should be, getting said raw materials in the first place. Here's another suggestion. I've never understood the appeal of titan farming, but even I'd grab pugs for the last mission in the game if Titans suddenly started dropping rare crafting materials/collectable items that I could turn in for a guaranteed sup run/ 20% mod of my choice. And since we're talking about disposible items here, it sfurther stimulates the economy

i will play devils advocate
why not simply sell them for a fixed small sum (100g) and be done with it?
i thought the i gotta have it nows were the PVP whiners who were against PVE playing.
if you play a lot buy your rune from the trader as you got gold from drops and dropped gold
congratulations as you have cut the playtime down to a fraction of what it should be for most people simply because you want that perfect item right now with no factor of chance in it.
50 new collectors and people farming for the items to sell at any city so you dont have to wait or do it yourself.
may i have your order please? 5 skunk cabbage ? why yes i will run you to the cabbage patch and keep the monsters from hurting you while you harvest them.
would you like me to get them for you? only a small extra charge.

Um... sorry, don't mean to sound like a grammar nazi, but your post is really disorganized and it is hard to get the gist of what you're saying.

i was (as devils advocate) tossing out a hodge podge of possible reasons for no votes on the idea
actually my no vote reason on this would be removing chance from the PVE side of the game and turning it into a copy of quick targeted unlocks.
substitute 5 items of choice instead of faction and specialized farming builds to collect those items.
instant ebay and instant in game market place as why should i actually get something by a chance drop playing the game when i can simply buy it ?
it would turn the game into visit the collector for each item wanted and then you are done except for showing off what you bought.

You're kidding, right?
People will farm for the items for the Rune Collector.
How does your suggestion eliminate the grind, hmm?

Well, that price will eventually inflate to a point where no-one wants to buy em anymore and just go out themselves to kill stuff.
I would suggest places like the arid sea etc...places that have no direct portal to an outpost.

I love the idea, especially if it would cut my time needed on farming for cash to get what I need. I would much rather be doing missions (helping others) or quests (again, helping others).
Farming for the collector drops? Easy, make them "No Drop" or in this game, "Customized" for the player. That way, he/she can't further exploit the already broken economy with a well built farming character*.
Further on this, all items in PvE should have a clone collector item. People that don't have time to "run" for green items, are left out on the better items. - I know this will tick off the green farmers, but, not everyone has the time to do that... I do, but most others don't.
Back on equal footing I say.
