Unlock all skills/stuff for a special PVP arena?
Sure many people like going through all the PvE stuff, and there's definitely a huge audience for that.
BUT I'm pretty sure Counterstrike would have taken a bit longer to become very popular if players had to play PvE first and gradually unlock their AWP and AK-47s, or unlock them by gaining faction in PvP either with some mediocre template build (AK + no kevlar + helmet or only mp5 with helmet) or with start with a pure custom character that only has a pistol and 12 bullets and all the stuff you unlocked before (too bad if you haven't unlocked anything else).
If asking for everything be unlocked for PvP is too much, I propose that a special arena/area be set up, where all skills and items are unlocked, but zero faction etc is gained from wins. The other PvP arenas remain the same.
All you gain from wins in those special arenas is victory. You can't take the skills and items back to the normal arenas or PvE.
Which is fine by me. I just want to play PvP in its full vs people using all sorts of crazy/creative builds, with silly builds of my own...
Currently you can't just open a Guildwars account, and start playing PvP to the full. No instant gratification. I do currently have PvE characters, but hey sometimes I don't feel like grind ok?
After all, apparently the GW people said "Success in Guild Wars is always the result of player skill, not time spent."
Well, I claim it takes a great deal of player skill to win with a custom non-template brand new out-of-the box PvP character (no unlocked PvE skills, no PvE characters). Or luck - in the right team vs the wrong team - but what's the FUN in winning like that? Being some uber team's handicap?
I'm sorry, but I just don't like being a handicap, even to a random team, just because I haven't unlocked erm, Healing signet. Yes, it's true - when I started my first PvP character, I had a warrior without a healing signet (not unlocked yet). So guess how well a warrior build will do with no warrior skills not even a healing signet. I don't know how skillful a player the rest of you are, but I was obviously not skilled enough to do decently.
Saying "But it only takes a few hours to unlock some stuff with the template build" or just start a PvE character misses the point totally. We're talking PvP here and the claim that "Success in Guild Wars is always the result of player skill, not time spent."
I want to spend time gaining player skill and not character skill. Get the difference?
Or is Arenanet going to be selling special accounts with all skills and items unlocked for PvP? I'm guessing there are people doing something like that on ebay already. But please read my second paragraph again if you think this is an acceptable situation.
I doubt Arenanet makes more money by having their customers grinding away for many hours a day - it's not a monthly subscription game. In fact it costs them more resources - bandwidth and servers.
Whereas if you have a larger bunch of people who just play one or two hours of PvP a day that makes them more money.
