I thought this was silly. Favor of the Gods can be nice. A limit on how often certain areas are accessible is nice. But that connection to PvP is annoying.
For the record, I think the new Tombs is great, when you don't have a B/P group. Sorrow's Furnace is great, when you don't have a farm group. It's sad that Tombs and SF have become jokes, but that's something else they should work on. That's another thread entirely.
What I wouldn't really mind seeing is a flavour of the day sort of thing. We have access only to UW; 12 hours later UW is closed and we have access to FoW; 12 hours later FoW is close and we have access to Lyssa's domain; 12 hours later her domain is closed and we have access to Milandru's domain; etc.
Currently, when we don't have favor, we don't have alternatives. And that can leave some regions with little to do.

There is a yes and a no part in it, yes for making pvp not influance pve so much. But whats going to replace the favor system a quest?? This seems nearly impossible.

What i think needs changing is more people willing to actually "play" this game. It is impossible for anyone who doesnt fit into the specific group formulae to farm in most areas. Why are we not allowed to construct our own builds instead of being restricted to about 3 that are accepted into groups?

Its a pvp game, its meant to reward skill of a particular territory. Those with more PvP players capable of holding HoH mean that terrirory is able to have more time in farming. Whats the prob? I got a better idea, lets just take the competitive element out of this game completely...

"It's a PvP game" "Play PvP" etc. Let's not turn this thread into PvP v PvE. Generalising comments like that are simply incorrect. Probably a substantial chunk of the playerbase likes playing PvE. That's not competitive against other players, it's co-op. There's a world of difference between co-op and PvP.
100% of the PvE campaign is (was) co-op, with that one exception right at the start where you're forced to do a quick PvP match to get into the next part of the game.
If it really was just a PvP game, why did they put so much time and effort into making a large co-op experience, and then adding even more areas like SF, and expanding the PvE even more with chapter 2? I dare say if they experimented and made it a 100% PvP game, they'd lose a rather large amount of their players. If it was their intention or not, the fact is it has developed in some ways into two games in one. PvP (competitive) and PvE (co-op). Different players like different things, and it's not fair or right one group should depend on the other.

Arg everyone quit yar whinin! Come on now? Take HoH out of the UW and FoW? Then why the hell would we need Favor?!?! Favor is the last thread and inkling the game has to be tied from PvP to PvE. You people don't understand that it is supposed to get you to play both...sheesh personally I'm a PvE man but occasionally I'll go to PvP for some excitement! It's not about making a warrior and go hacking repeatedly at the other guy. It's coming up with new builds and stratagizing, have you ever had such a game with so many combonations of skills and strategies?! Not to mention Factions will add so much more to the mix of skills, and two more classes!! Talk about fun! You people can't assume Factions will ruin anything because you people are so pessimistic and assume the worst, do what the whole point of the game is and "have fun" are you sure you know everything Factions is going to do to your game?! Oh and btw if you hate PvP well then you hate most of what the game represents and is! I try and savor every aspect of the game.

This is an excellent way to tie PvP and PvE to each other, rather than being entirely two seperate things in the game. I love PvE, and play some PvP (not good at it...yet!). I know some folks play exclusively PvE and some exclusively PvP, and that's fine, but at least we still have this one connection between the two. Next chapter even more ties are formed between PvP and PvE...so get used to it, is all I can really say here.
I remember when Europe never had favor, so I'm glad they have the chance to do FoW and UW now. They earned the right and they deserve it. So does Korea when they have favor, and America...etc. Just my two cents...

I'm on the fence on this one. On one hand, I really don't think it is fair to tie favor to those realms. You already have to be ascended, and pay to get in. I don't know about all of you, but when I'm on the game, it seems that Europe always has favor. Being on the American servers, this kinda sucks. I don't hate PvP, but I know I'm not good enough to win HoH. Also, for everyone complaining about drops, they've been nerfed to hell and back already. Finding an ecto on an UW run is like winning the lottery now, when you use to get about 6-8 per trip (long, long ago).
On the other hand, having favor limits the time that we can go in there. Mainly, it limits the farmer bots time in there. If it were open 24/7, ecto, shards, Chaos Axes, Ghostly Staffs, and any other rare item down there will flood the market and prices will crash (really pissin off the rich, who have stacks upon stacks of ecto and shards).
I see both sides of this argument. With that, I really can't sign off on this. I do wish there was a way to at least get a "one trip" deal where you can enter either FoW or UW once a day when you don't have favor.

As has already been stated earlier in this thread, what would the reaction be if the shoe was on the other foot. Okay you PVP people you can't participate in Heroes Ascent unless the PVE world has garnered favor for your part of the world. Wouldn't that be as valid a way to tie PVP and PVE together as the current situation is? PVP players would be raising a huge stink if that ever happened and rightly so. Linking access to challenging PVE content through PVP competition is one of the biggest stinkers of a game design decision ever conceived.
If they want to limit access then allow PVE players some other way to gain access that they would have control over. And no having to go win 5 battles in a PVP format is not a good answer. Would a PVP player like it if they had to complete 5 PVE missions before they could GVG or go into HA? I think not.

If that's a tie, the tie should be BOTH ways. It's not. With the introduction of Faction based unlocking, the tie from PvE into PvP has been severed. Funnily enough, the link from PvP into PvE is still there.
Let's say someone wanted to enter Heroes' Ascent. Let's say you could enter HA only if a PvE party from your territory has beaten The Last Day Dawns within the last 5 minutes. Would you like that? No? Well, it would be such a cool idea to tie PvP and PvE together..

I remember when PvP lovers were constantly complaining that they had to play PvE to unlock stuff, and then they implemented Faction points so that the PvP folks only had to play through the game ONCE (and not even entirely, all you really need is to play through it enough to buy 8 skills you need to play a specific role, and anybody with a guild can do that easy). This screwed over PvE because nobody needed to buy unidentified runes, weapon upgrades, etc. I am also guessing that rune traders were put there more for the use of PvP people because not having a SUP rune is of little consequence in PvE. I don't understand why it is that ANet keeps deciding to pander to PvP at the expense of PvE. I used to have a way to get gold and actually enjoy the game (selling runes and such) but now its increasingly hard to accumulate any real wealth without hours of boring farming. Not exactly my idea of a great time in PvE. UW and FoW should depend on some factors of PvE, NOT PvP. Curbing ecto farming is as easy as putting in a pre-stage battle (similar to the PvP entrance where you kill the ghosts, if that is even still there) where it is impossible for solo or 2 man teams to get through (e.g. put in necs and mesmers).
As it has been said, SF and Tombs are a joke now (try finding a non B/P group at certain times of the day). UW and FoW are the only decent things left for people tired of doing Missions over and over and over again. But if you can't play at those key times when your territory is winning, then you are locked out, its utterly rediculous.

I don't think these areas should be tied to PvP. But then I think you should have henchies that you can control and adjust their skills.And they should be able to go there too. Frankly I'm get tired of the way they always want us to play with so many other people. I've been on some very bad teams and had a few rather nasty experiences. Now I play with one or two friend and the henchies.

hrm..after reading some of these posts, i'm going to have to go with

Though I don't FoW or UW, I does seem like America never has favor, something which is a chagrin to many of my guildies. I do like one of the previous suggestions in that making an increased faction/fame collection (1.5x or 2x as much perhaps) while your region has favor, and having a different method for allowing access to UW or FoW would be good. I think that that pre-battle thing (like HoH with the Zaishen dudes, no more ghosts but same sort of challenge) would perhaps be good. Some sort of thing like, Balthazar will test your party to see if you are worthy of the Underworld, or perhaps the Champion/Voice dudes can give you a quest, that upon completion, gives you favor with that god. Some sort of access restriction (to prevent bot farming if nothing else) would be needed, imo, but linking it to the effectiveness of PvPers does seem a bit crazy when there is no requirement the other way.
As to someone's post above (sorry, can't remember the name right now) about concern over having to PvP to get faction in Factions, the weekend event seems to me to indicate that you can gain it via quests as well.
