[New Class] Doppleganger
Not exactly my idea, but what I hope to be a refined version of the idea.
It was suggested for a "Shapeshifter" class. This was an interesting idea, but it's kina been overdone (WoW, Diablo 2). So, why not use something that's already in the game? The Doppleganger!
The basic idea is a stealthy character that uses mind tricks and misdirection to subdue foes. But, their real talent is in perfectly mimicing their prey, and in some cases doing it even better than the original! Obviously, the player would NEED to be a master of all trades to use class effectively.
Primary Attribute: Duplication (or Mimicry)
~ This skill would increase the level of stolen skills. Say, 12 in this would grant level 8 Strength for stolen Strength skills. The maximum level of this skill should NOT grant anything overly high in levels. So, with Dupe at level 16, you'd only get level 14ish skills, to help maintain balance.
Secondary Attributes:
Misdirection
~ Basic premise would be to allow the Doppleganger to change the direction of a foe's attack, or make the attack not work the right way, or to counter it. Think of a Domination Mesmer, that should be a good place to start I think.
Stealth
~ Grants the abbiltiy to hide oneself, or make the enemy less likely to hit you. Shadow Arts would be a good template here.
Suplication
~ A more Vampiric side for the character. Similar to the Blood line on a Necromancer, this lets the Doppleganger steal health or energy from an opponent to restore themselves.
A note on the similarities: I'm just looking for something that's already in the game, and as such, something to base this character off of. I'm not trying to make an overly powerful character, so if you see a problem with my Att suggestions, PLEASE offer a better solution!
Skill Ideas:
Duplicate {E} - The basic skill of the build. Replaces ALL your skills with ALL of the skills from target touched foe for [3..30] seconds. These skills would have a level based on your level in Duplication. When this skill ends, all your skills get replaced and RESET for 6 seconds.
Slippery Target - This skill lasts for X amount of time. If you get hit with a spell, it instead targets nearest ADJASCENT foe. If there are no adjascent foes, this skill has no effect.
Health of the Leech - Should be a spell. Sorry, touch Rangers :P. Touched target loses [2..20] health and becomes hexed for X seconds. While they are hexed, they suffer -2 Health degen and you gain +2 Health regen.
Touch of the Shadow - Both target touched foe and the caster suffer from a random status ailment [Blindness, Poison, Bleeding, Crippled, Weakness] for X seconds.
Walk in the Shadows - Stance. Become invisable for [1..5] seconds. While you are invisable, you suffer from -4 Health and Energy degen, and you can not attack or use skills.
Sap Energy - Spell. Target foe looses X energy.
I'm thinking that because of their needed proximity to their target, they'd need good armor. At least AL 70. I think that they should also have 30 energy (with the basic armor) and 3 pips of energy regen.
Ok guys, here is my VERY basic idea for the class. Please tear away with wild abandon! :D

I thought of a mimic character myself (a la Gogo from Final Fantasy). What made Gogo unique was his/her (not sure) ability to use any skills, magic and weapon available to your party.
I think you idea is fine, but the attributes need work.
Primary: Mimicry - More points increase the lvl of the copied skill.
Copy Attacks - For copying physical attacks like axe, sword, hammer and bow skills.
Copy enchantments - For copying enchantments, both maintained and non-maintained
Copy Hexes -Hexes obviously
Copy spells - Spells obviously
The various copy skills basically take existing skills from your party or opponents.
Some skills would enhance the existing copy (for some fun combos).
Follow the Wind - Copy a random bow attack from target ally. For the next 15 seconds, that skill replaces Follow the Wind. The copied skill does an additional +20 dmg.
or something to that nature.

dude, then if someone connects accounts and makes a doppleganger, he then goes to get ascended, and ends up losing ONLY because he was(although every does, he is literally doing it)fighting himself, couldnt copy skills and the OTHER doppleganger always has a better weapon.
by the way, derek lukahn, the doppleganger, like the one in Augery Rock, should use a bow

I like the primary... but have trouble with the rest.
I think a Doppleganger has some potential (thought I dislike the name.. maybe a Mimic?) but only see it for 1 or 2 line of attribute. Yet to see a well fitting concpet class of it. And Mesmer seem to cover alot of Dopper's ablity already....
I would have a Mirror Magic attribut in there.

Yeah, this idea was just a rough throw-together I came up with on the spot late at night when I was far too tired to think clearly. But, I must agree, the basic attribute is good. But, what would you add to this?
The class should have some means of attack beyond stealing skills from the enemy. But, the problem is, everythng I have thought of that could work is already being used by some other class, mostly Mesmers, Necromancers, and Assassins. So, let's try a different approach to the atts.
The two attributes that would work together are its Primary (Mimicry) and one general att (call it Duplication Craft, for the sake of a name). Mimicry will only have a few skills under it, some things that can help a primary class of this, while Duplication Craft has the actual skill stealing skills. The copy skills would range from "Steal a skill from target foe" to something more complex like "Counter skill/spell and replace this skill with the countered skill for X seconds" or even "Steal a skill from target of this discipline (Sword, Axe, Protection Prayers, Adreniline Cost skill, etc.)". You could get pretty wild with that.
As for the other atts, how about just 2? One for defensive skills, the other for offensive skills. I'd actually prefer to make this class NEED a secondary for weapon damage. They should be very dependent upon their allys and foes for skills, and shouldn't be very capable by themselves. Capable enough, but not by much is my thought. The defensive attribute would have healing skills and defensive stances, things just to make the character a bit tougher to kill. The offensive attribute would be dedicated to status ailments and DoT, just things to tick off the opponent but not seriously harm them. That should add nicely
As far as weapons go, that's what the Copy skills are for. A staff for it's basic weapon, but your extra weapon slots would be for melee weapons, or a bow, or a different staff. Or something to that effect. You'd need to be able to switch between play styles at the blink of an eye, so you're going to need a lot of weapons. Or, you can rely on your secondary for weapon damage.
I hope that fixes things up a bit. Please, keep the suggestions coming, I'd like to get this thing to at least look good on paper.
