Friends
One small thing i would like to see changed would be a notification as others have said when friends come online But with one difference.... after the name of the friend have it tell you where they are. like .... lions arch (dist2) the 2 is for district. Or... Gates of kryta (mission)
do if i have a friend names joe blow and he was in yaks bend dist 2 you would see
Friends online
-------------
Joe Blow (dist2)
frank ranger (frost gate mission)
just a thought

I can see the conversation between me and my wife now, who have our computers usually in different rooms.
Eviance: Hey, Red, can you come run me through this mission?
Redly: So sorry, love, I'm in the middle of a mission myself and can't get out.
Eviance: Oh ok. Hmmm..... I wonder if which mission.... lemme just open my friends list...
Eviance: ......
Redly: What's wrong, love?
Eviance: WTF YOU WON'T RUN ME BECAUSE YOU'RE TOO BUSY IN RANDOM ARENAS!!!! YOU ARE A SELFISH LIAR, YOU KNOW THAT?!
Redly: OMG hun....

Not gonna happen, it would allow for stalking, which would have nasty legal connatations for Arenanet.
Edit: Don't get me wrong here, I would love to have such a system too, but as far as a company is concerned, its an un-needed feature that can allow people to harrass each other.

o.o but Mhenlo's a freak of nature!
At least implement the adding of 'DOCTOR DOOM has signed in' or something.
Oh how it would help me dearly.
edit - actually, Eve and I have a little something going on <_< >_> <_<

1. It'd allow for stalking.
2. It'd be very annoying while you're PvPing or whatever to get a message "____ has come online" then when they change charactars 3 seconds later or goto reroll get "____ has gone offline" then "____ has come online."
I have no problem with the online/offline thing being implimented, but hey, just give people the option to turn it on and off.
So /signed on notification ONLY, and ONLY if you can turn it on and off.

Well if they change it so when you add new people to your friends list it requires the other to accept then that would be good. Right now you can already stalk people just by adding them to your friends list. There is no indication given to the other person when you add someone to your friends list so you can see if and when they are on the game or not. That is stalking since you know what it is the person is doing in real life. Knowing the location of that persons character in the game isn't stalking.
So change it to that when you add someone it requires them to accept the invite and you get added to their friends list as well. The add the feature suggested.

If they implemented this I predict never having a moment's peace again.
At various times I have already had to implement a queuing system reminiscent of a call centre:
'Helping you is important to me. I am experienceing an unusually high number of calls for help today. You are fourth in the queue. Please continue to wait and I will assist you as soon as I am able.'

I like this idea, for both notification and location ideas but ONLY if the following could be implemented as well: currently, you can set your status to "away" or "do not disturb", etc. which really only changes whether or not a person can whisper you or sends them a message saying that their whisper may not be received since you've set yourself on "do not disturb" or whatever. Perhaps, if by setting yourself on "away" the notification and location thing will not work. And then if you were to set yourself on "do not disturb" only the notification will work but not location. Or something to that effect.
Or, to reduce the "stalkiness" of it all by a little, make it an option per guild or something to that effect.
Or even just a straight up option you can choose from the Options Menu (example: Click Here to Allow All Other Players to See Your Status, Click Here to Allow Only Guild Members to See Your Status, Click Here to Never Allow Others to See Your Status, etc). For safety's sake, the default setting could be that nobody could see your status unless you turn the option on.
I like the idea, but there needs to be a way to keep prying eyes, annoying players, and stalker types at bay.
